Besides collecting MISB sets I also collect vintage catalogs and ads. Here a small sample from some great ads and price contests :)

Spot the prototype part :D (well at least I think it is).

Is it one that never made it to production?
cool ad collection
Thanks for sharing these rare gems

Hi,
Yes I think so. By the way I have hundreds of ads, but I don't have the time to list more at this moment.
-

which one is the prototype part? :-[
-
Nice ads,
Without looking at the collector the only part I can see that is new to me is the end roof section on the house on the left.
I can't think what set that part has come from with the scrolled ends and twin arched window.
-
That part existed, it was part of the bakery and the blacksmith's shop. Usually on the side that's not on the front of the box though.
-
It was also a part in the yellow pottery house!
Great collection Eddy!

yeah that's the only house I have (the pottery) and I have that part. is the back of teh house in back.
so no one knows what the prototype is? :hmm: :P
-
I say it is a part that allows the square tower to be at a 45º angel to the walls. If you look at all the houses they are square to the camera where the tower is not. You can not see the part but its there ;)

Hmm, maybe I am completely wrong, but I did not recognize the hat the lady at the far left side of the ad wears on her head. It looks like some kind of medieval white helmet . But perhaps I am mistaken.
-
Besides the hat this lady is also wearing a collar which seems to be closed at the front, I only remember the blue collar which was open at the front from the 3374 or the red collar which can be seen in the 5 klicky box '3392'.
-
On closer inspection, the collar could be open, but the white (I assume it's white) hat is a mystery to me. The ad is from 1977.
-
I think I would want to see the original with out the loss of resolution for that fine of a detail :lens:
Any time you feel like sharing these types of images please do as some of them are quite impressive and inspirational
Thanks again

These are indeed some rare gems! You are a true collector! Thanks for showing us.

OOOOh I though you meant a steck part! But maybe you are right, I haven't seen that hat.
@ras... Since I bought my first steck castle (3 months ago ) I have been thinking a 45° steck conector would be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is something the PCC should present to Geobra!!!! That way we would be able to build a star like mediaval city to say the least!!!!!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Great collection! Thanks for sharing the pics :thanks:

Yes I could use quite a few of them. I think we would need a few other parts to go with it to be totally functional. It would look great to have a 45º

Beautiful catalogs!
Thanks for sharing them. :)

After a carefull look i dont think there is any prototype in this picture. The hat exists and made it in the mediaval girl special in the 90s, the 3445 tower is only placed at an agle and the pottery thingies exists in the pottery shop ( a great set this is !!! ). Lovely to see all these steck houses, these are the best sets by playmobil ever made imo and i hope the DS bakery is the first of many other steck houses that will be build again. Hell, I will build another 2 mediaval cities of the steck houses come out again !!!! . Lovely to see these ads i have a few in a box full of posters and advertising leaflets/ diormamas and /or a box full of instructions but i have seen these ever before nad thanks for sharing , they are awesome !!!
I want to go to my playmoden now and sink into my steck / medieval set up for like a whole coupl eof days !!!!!!! I need Playmo therapy !!!!!!!!!!!

... also If i may add , in the first pirate add interesting to see the aristocrats as I refered to them in a recent thread of mine about a very rare set that they are in fact passengers to the old pirate ship. Interesting !!! So these ad have given us some clues !!! more ??? ;D
-
Well but than again you could say that at that time it was a prototype, because if you are right they waited more than 16 years for releasing it in a particular set. I hope to post more interesting ads tonight.

I have some old pricelists and orderlists and the aristocrat set is listed under the pirate theme, so that clarifies a lot.
-
great ads i have also plenty of them ,they are very rare but cheap also ,no one i intrested on buying them :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: good for me though ;D

There has been a relatively succesful 'Playmobil Fun Club in the USA, why it was shut down remains a mystery. At one stage they had more than 20,000 subscribers. This was a great initiative with very good ideas like coloring contests, games etc. etc.. I have a pressmap with lots of nice Funclub Goodies (catalogs, coloring contests, membership cards etc.) :)
-
Some great roadmaps

Wow you have quite a collection
In image DSC-2350 & DSC-2344 did they sell playmobil like that in those set up boxes with the clear front ?
It would be interesting to see more about this Fun Club especially now that we are working/dreaming about the PCC

Hi,
Yes these 2 images come from 2 different Schaper dealer catalogs. When the box design changed in 1980 into a universal blue the displays also changed from black to blue. I am lucky to have one of those black Schaper displays (with farmer theme). They are one of the best displays ever made. Their headquarters was in Minneapolis, I have tried to get in contact with former Schaper employees and a few were very friendly in asking some questions I had. Unfortunately none of them had any merchandise, catalogs or displays for me :-[. I am a history buff, so I always try to find more info about the Schaper-Playmobil connection. Supposedly their first commercial was called 'Land of Forgotten Toys', if anybody here has this commercial than please get in touch with me .
-
I believe the open front diorama boxes are dealer displays.
I wouldn't want to be one of those klickies on the rope bridge when the elephant walked out on it. DSC-2362
-
The following pages are from some ultra rare 'Toy Fair' catalogs with all the novelties from those years (late seventies and early eighties). I could not photograph every single page, so it's just a small overview. If you look carefully there are quite a few prototype parts in there. Enjoy

Great Western scene (first pic)

The infamous red house which was never produced. Well it ended up as a DS article a few years ago of course.
-
:omg: :omg: :omg: :omg: :thanks:
Great Pics !
Thanx !!!!
-
Thanks for the additional pics Eddy!
-
Great imag!
The bakery in green and the small space shuttle in blue, definitely not usual production pieces.
-
Thanks for the all the pics of all these wonderfull old catalogues, scenes and adds! :)

The visible prototype-part you mentioned that didn't get released (back in the 70's) is indeed the lady's hat. ;)
-
Wow, these are wonderful to see, and dream about. Thank you for taking the time to post all of these. Your collection is incredible, absolutely incredible.

Apparently from the little i know this red house was hand painted as at the time it was very difficult to produce with the available dye technology ( I thinki have read this in the collectors book ..) A green bakery/shop , all the bits are there to make it apart from the green walls for the front house wall with the market opening . A great idea this would be for someone to custom made this !!!!
-
There are some more unknown parts like for instance the Eurotrans truck was never produced like this and in the medieval scene white shields with red emblems can be seen. There are also some signs that were never produced.

Interesting. I think i have seen that emblem in a Lyra set somewhere, I will check it up when at playmoden . I think in one of ther late sets in buckets ... I am not so sure BUT i am kinda certain i have seen it before!!!!

There are some very nice pictures there. Thank you for sharing them! :)
