Title: My MIB eskimo, Television and Beduins collection
Post by: Luis on March 16, 2011, 23:18:05
these are the sets from the theme released in the mid 80's (a year before i was born to be more exact ;)) and discontinued in the early 90's - i've also had the chance to get a hold of some Lyra exclusive and some others only made/sold in Spain around the same dates

i put my avatar next to every set to give an idea of size of box

i'll start from the littliest ones: 3910 and 3911 male and female and eskimos - i still have this beautiful couple in their pristine condition sealed box...the lady still has the plastic wrap

they were both made in Spain:

the images on the back and the sides are the same on both boxes...

now the same gentleman but in a different presentation and with a little fellow (Lyra version) - size of box is a little bigger and box contains arabic lettering on it (a friend assumes this is because of the proximity to Cyprus and the commercial trades between this country and Greece)

different angle and back of box - pictures of dioramas are all the same :)

another Lyra set with the couple and three children! (with so much cold they didn't waste their time ;))

it would be impossible to ignore the rare set reference with a letter among numbers: 3L72

Post by: Luis on March 16, 2011, 23:28:44
the couple with sleigh - similar set number (with letter L)

this box has the same picture on both sides

it had this horrible tape when i bought it (when i've seen it on ebay it always comes like this)

Title: Re: My MIB eskimo collection
Post by: Luis on March 16, 2011, 23:31:23
this box doesn't have any image on the back - just like some of those old medieval sets:

what happened to yours??

In 1999 to 2001 I had 6 igloo sets, 3 kayak & sled dog sets, with multiple individual Eskimo figures with polar bears on ice bergs, some sets came MISB, but I had to open & display them. Along with the Artic polar research Sno Cats, but due to a personal situation I was required to sell them,......it was heart wrenching! :( I never got any of the Lyra sets you have though, just the German releases. Your's look really cool :)9!

AWESOME, Luis! I'm SOOOOOO jealous!  :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit: I absolutely love this old theme, but I never have gotten any of it. It's on the the list.... one of these days.

BB, I'm so sorry you had to sell these! What a terrible loss.  :-\ But I'm sure it was for a worthy cause.  ;)

Bonnie, I hope you get a hold of one of these soon - I love this theme too! :cloud9: (can anyone tell at all? :P)

Luis
Thank you for posting the photos of your wonderful sets. This is one of my favorite themes, and I have most of the German sets, minus a glove and a baby pack, from when my children were young, although we never had the float plane and weather station.  We did not save any of the boxes, because these were "toys", so it was fun to see all of the box images again.  One of my favorite box photos has always been the child peeking out from the igloo on the 3465 box.  My children always wondered why the children in the set did not have gloves to wear.

Oh wow Luis!!! Bill is right!! This is an awesome collection of the eskimo theme!!! I love and wish I had it...

Thank you for all these pics! These LYRA sets were a great hit back then!

what is the lettering under the word PLAYMBIL? that does not look greek.  ???   arabic?

Actually Lyra was exporting toys in arabic countries, thus the arabic writting on the boxes. Cyprus has nothing to do with it.  It was a really big and important company, before it went wrong, broke, and shut down...

Playmobil sued that company for keeping its moulds and making unlicenced products, one of the owners as far as I know ended up in Jail and the other left the country. I visited their factory when i was really young with my Dad  and I was given toys as presents , lovely memories i must say.

That's a theme I've always thought was both unusual for a toy but also very attractive.  If I had them they wouldn't still be in sealed boxes as I couldn't resist opening them and setting them up.

These sets is a good reminder of how FAR BETTER was the quality of Playmobil Plastic for Klickies and larger items in the late 80s and especially in the mid 90s which the best of Playmobil in my opinion was ever produced ( Thus the as I call it ' Golden Era for Playmobil 1991-2001)

The themes back then were far mor educational and constructive for Children than the junk thems of spy agents and all that ugly space sets that are out now. Hans Beck wouldnt be happy and wouldnt never never approve these themes and all those ugly angry playmo unshaved etc faces, ridiculs if you ask me .

These Eskimoos is a testament of how better was Playmobil back then and good proof that things have gone completewly wrong in the design of new sets if you ask me .

I shall stick to the old sets and despise all these ugly, violent new sets, i aint buying them for my ( future) kids !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

note: i also hate the new top agents theme but the boxes are really nice designed and attrackive ,i have to tell you i visited the"jumbo" toy store yesterday all the shelves with the top agents were halp empty  :hmm: :hmm: despite the box desighn the toy in stupid though

It's true that a lot of playmobil these days seems more cheaply made, fot instance some of the system x walls on buildings like the new school are very thin. However I will say I noticed one thing we can only hope is a sign of improvement. When I got this set, http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4857&cgid=Freizeit-Ferienhaus the vacation house, I was quite surprised to notice how thick and heavy the system x wall pieces were. They felt very solid. I was surpised and pleased with this, as the quality seemed excellent.

The 4857 as most new sets have greast and very vivid colour and a great range of accessories and klickies with bespoke purpose clothing ( clever, tehy cant be used else where as in the old days ) BUT its not a house its basically an angled wall with some roof parts on top, totally unrealistic and cheap design if you ask me I am afraid. System X was the beginning of the demise for complex and rigid Playmobil Construction system Steck which is superb even after over 30 years of playing . System X and even worse the Clip system to Steck is like comraring a Yugo to a Ferrari !!!! Bring back Steck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that I will agree with. It's a pathetically small house, hardly where I would want to spend a vacation! It isn't well-designed, but the pieces are at least good quality, so you can get more thatn one and build a bigger structure, incorporating the wonderful trellises, and have a good solid structure on your hands. If the pieces are cheap, you can't change that. You can order more pieces to make a better building.

But we are off topic. igloos rule!

The plastic is softer on this year's klickies... any this year klicky that I attempted to dismantle with th hans-on method, left two marks on the base of the torso where the legs end up... and this happened even with the small charton between the torso and the legs...

Try putting a thick piece of card board in between the torso & legs Panos. It will cushion the reaction of that method. Also use a  hair dryer set on hot to remove the marks on damaged Klicky's, just be careful not to let them get too hot! :o

Yes i did try the thick piece and the marks still make their appearance... I haven't thought of the hair drier! Good idea Bill!
However, from now on, its just the pincer method for me... even if my deltoid hurts...

Gordon is right - I don't think I've ever seen other toy companies making toys in an antartic setting...i could be just unaware though

i too think playmobil was much better (themes-wise) back in the day...nowadays they don't make any of these things, just those stupid looking farms, top agent and futuristic stuff (not to mention the super freaky giant iguana sets :hmm: )...too bad kids don't have other (alternative) playing options - on the other hand i doubt this kind of themes would appeal to them.

My children always wondered why the children in the set did not have gloves to wear.

i too have always wondered why they didn't design gloves for the kids...they must be cold! :(

I love them all.  I keep looking out for the large tv camera set, I have the van but I'm missing the large cameras - I tried to win a set a few nights ago on ebay but I was outbid by 50p  :'(

Again, Luis, an unusual theme and wonderful box art.  I like the attention to detail with the extra strap and bag for the early film/video camera's batteries, although having a studio type camera with an outdoor reporter in the other set is a bit strange.

Do you have the motorcycle video crew set?

yes, i have it :) i just didn't include it in this lot because it's a more modern set :)

and it's more part of the racing theme than a TV theme (which didn't exist in the 90's) - seems not many ppl are fans of the racing theme :(
