Title: What is missing in the playmobil world?
Post by: Heronimus on January 01, 2011, 04:04:47
Happy new year~!!

I think playmobil honestly has done quite a good job releasing a lot of theme, animals and artifacts to represent the real and fantasy world. But what else should playmobil produce to enrich their world further??

The first thing coming up from my mind is BAT, such thought was kindled by another thread about the batman. It is gonna be cool if we have gangs of playmobil bat sleeping and resting on the playmobil trees!!!

I think bats would be awesome! of course, most of the things I want are animals. I would REALLY love a llama. An african wild dog and a platypus would be cool too. In fact I would like a lot of australian animals, like cassowaries. And I can't miss a chance to say I want an okapi!  :hissyfit:

Other than that, I would love to see things like roller coasters and ferris wheels and carousels. There is a major lack of these in the playmobil world.

You know what else would be cool? Clouds. Like maybe cloud/sky looking baseplates to play with a sky related theme. Airplanes, hot-air balloons. Maybe it sounds weird, but it might be fun for kids, and it would be good for making dioramas. Think fighter planes, Amelia earhart. It would be an easier way than having to hang each airplane from string and try to keep them from moving. Just a thought. maybe it's stupid; I don't know.   8}

CLOUDS....wow....great idea. Maybe some clear or milky white parts to represent smoke, stream of smoke, clouds of smoke.

OKAPI.....I need to google that. VERY CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But making a mould would be costly......given that it is not really popular or mainstream :-[

I think the amusement park theme idea is a great one.  Better, or just as good as, a circus.  Playmobil could add new rides to it and DS expansions to make the rides more exciting.  I think kids of all ages would be into that.

Yes, I'm sure it won't happen anytime soon.  It's something no one has even heard of right now.

i think it would be cool if they were part of a county fair type theme, with little duck-shooting games and dunking booths and stuff.

The bat idea I like but some of the others are maybe too narrow in their market such as Bonnie's cassowary.  The fun park/fairground sounds good.

My late father had a little nonsense rhyme about the cassowary.

If I were a cassowary on the plains of Timbuktoo,
If I met a missionary, I'd eat him,
And his hymn book too,

I can't wait for a rollercoaster!!   Can u imagine if it's expandable just like steck or even system x, where it comes with a motorized crank (to get to the top) and you can design your own track layout as big as you want?  And klickies can really fit in the roller coaster!

And a ferris wheel!

And carosel!

And bumper cars!

And sky trolley!

Pony rides (ponies harnessed to a carosel-type frame)

and Elephant rides!  (I did that as a kid......scary actually....feels like the box on his back that we ride in is gonna fall off!)

And vendor booths with cotton candy and toys and games!

And a bearded lady! (oh wait, that's circus)

But I really want that ROLLER COASTER!!!

More vehicles!!! :D

What I really want is a wider variety of construction vehicles. Especially a road paver! (believe me I've tried to make one but it's just too hard) :D

  my feelings exactly!

I was lying awake last night thinking about the sky theme. you could have a set that comes with a small biplane, a set that comes with a hot air balloon, one could come with a couple of hang gliders or parasailers. And then you could have one that was more like the night sky, with glittering stars, and it could have little holes in the baseplate, but instead of plants, you could put sparkling things that look like exploding firecrackers.  ;D

Yes! Way too many parrots!  I have at least a dozen, and I didn't but any of them on purpose.

playmobil released a roller coaster in Japan many years ago
it's an ultra rare set

the only time i've seen it on ebay it went over $1,000 USD
there's a video of it on youtube, nothing really exceptional, but it's a must-have (and impossible-to-get) set for collectors who like rides and stuff

The Victorian Theme of course  ;) ...

Couldn't agree with you more.

I really would love to see a sort of "lost city" - theme.
Without some sort of heroes and villains; but more like archeologists and natives style.
That would be really great.

hihi - and a on-line game ... sort of MMORPG - hihi
can't wait for that!

I have a lot of parrots! o/
(And remark that I don't have a big collection ... :hmm: )

They should allow collectors to freely trade parrots for whatever other small thing ... I'd like to have many more rats, for example ... If I could change each parrot I don't need for two rats it'd be great! :P (Even one rat a parrot ...) Maybe we should take this idea to the Collectors' Club! ::)

Maybe some other exotic birds?? I too do not have a huge collection and the number of parrots I have, however, is expanding super fast, as if the only bird in the pirate world is parrot. Rats or probably turtles would be better.

I like the idea of a "sky theme"-  I'm picturing Victorian Era steampunk aeronauts...   :D

Though, I think a country fair theme would be great- Animal exhibit, food and game stalls, ferris wheel-  But isn't this more of a US/Canadian thing?

I think the main reason why Playmobil hasn't released a carousel is b/c the figures can't bend/arch their arms to hold the horse poles
with the ferris wheel that would be no problem I guess (poles would be horizontal)

I guess they will not introduce pizza in the playmoworld unless kilckies' arms could  bend, otherwise the only way is feeding each other with straight arms :-[

Come to think of it there is somewhat a lack of food altogether. They have trays of sweet rolls and whole chickens, and crates of veggies, but they don't have much in the way of prepared dishes, or plates with individual servings of food, or food for vendors to sell. They have ice cream and hot dogs with no bun, but I think more detail in this area might make certain themes more realistic. I make food by hand when I need it, but I'm a purist really, and would love to have actual playmobil items instead.

I think it is good to introduce more variety in Chef's expertise. But they really should produce food that are easy to be identified in playmobil size, relying on the shape, the roasted chicken and ham are good examples. Otherwise, they might resort to printing the ingredient and eroding the fun of playmobil. :P :P
So the pizza, might be in brown plus red, to represent the crust and pepperoni.  ;D

On top of my wishlist, of course, some missing animals:

Bats (Whats the problem about that? They released the fourth generation of castles last year, there was a goldmine in the western theme, the jungle theme and even a dracula-special but not one small, single bat. I think there is a bat-hater at the development department...)

Lamas (I hope there'll be one when they relaunch the circus theme...)

...a walrus, otters, piranhas, lynx, snow leopard, polar fox and an anteater. I think that would complete the "premier league" of animals that are more or less popular to most people.

There were some really nice ideas in this thread, especially that cloud-baseplates would be something completely new but it might be too abstract for the people at geobra. The amusement-park is sure one of the top wishes from adult playmofans but there was an statement from geobra last year that they'll not realise it because the sets would be far too expensive and the play-value for the target group would be to small. Maybe this could be a target for the collectors-club one day...Lego shows with this giant star-wars-sets that there is a market for such things.

Some other things i would like to see: ice-age theme, a beekeeper-special, an anthill for the forest theme, a paraglider, a hang-glider, a hot air balloon and an airship (zeppelin) *dreaming*

HI

We just drove through SF and when I saw all the double decker buses I thought "Now there is something Playmobil could make" The ones in SF were modern ones but the old classic one would be much better . It could either have a top that was removable or just a convertible would be fine.

Wasn't there a cluster of grapes that came with the arena ? I seem to recall it being on the small yellow table ???

As far as expensive collectors editions, I think we complain about high prices enough that Geobra get the hint  ;)

Hi

One thing I was happy to finally see is the introduction of the Construction building blocks AKA CMU's in set 4138. It would be interesting to see an elaboration of such ideas especially for modern theme construction dioramas. Everything in the Playmobil world is so finished

I would like to see the return of the villagers for the medieval houses.  The houses sold in the knight's theme are so barran, maybe more furniture, again, certainly more townspeople.

Hobbit movies are stuck in red tape. Actor's guild boycotted the film because actors were not subject to the same terms/protection of the union since the movies were to be shot in New Zealand (like LOTR). So now its gonna be shot in UK....suppossedly.

Hi

Yes there certainly was a disproportionate amount of Kings, nobles and Knights. With out any peasants there was nobody to protect or rule over.

Leave it to a union to make something take forever or cost a fortune

Yes....too many kings and pirate captains.....but probably they sell better luring more sales from kids? ANd the knight family sets are always the same for years, keeping us from buying and building a nice village.

I really wish they would redesign the internal chassis of the figures.

Nearly half my new klickies are arriving with loose legs, and I hate having to pop them open to squeeze the chassis and tighten it up. This really shouldn't be necessary on brand new figures.

When I was a kid the loose legs problem was really annoying, and I didn't know how to fix it, but the legs only got loose after years of play.

A fractional adjustment of the chassis would put more pressure on the legs to begin with, and the arms too, so we didn't have loose legged klickes straight out of the box or bag.

I wonder if it really needs to be redesigned, or if the factory needs to clean out the moulds even better between production runs? Theoretically only a few microns of residual materials in the moulds could cause these frames to be just a little bit looser (I guess the same goes for the fit of hats on hair etc.).

Yes...it is frustrating to see loose legs even for the new klickies....Now I just use some wands and weapons to support them.  :'(
