Garden of Heroes
By Tonguello

Seeds
Part One

They had orders to take the River Road but they were days late. The men and their cargo were supposed to be at the improvised Royal Port 2 days ago, but a broken wheel and a night of gambling in a near town, were now making them very behind in schedule.

Someone at the town’s pub last night, at their poker table, had casually mentioned a shortcut through the Blackwood forest. A dark and concealed path, but a fast way right back into the River Road, at the outskirts of Coghlan City. It would make them gain a day journey so they could be on time before the ship leaves. Those were safe days, and peace had reigned for years so they didn’t think it could be dangerous. They were just reluctant to disobey orders, but anyway they should not be in that town either…..
The stranger explained them how to get there and where to take the curve back to the River Road. They discussed it for a while and agreed to take that path and when they turned to thank the stranger all they could see was a glimpse of his black cloak going out of the door, and into the night. They took his winnings and a bottle of Roseenth (1) he had left behind; and kept gambling, quickly forgetting about him.
Their journey had been planned to be easy, and fast, and the cargo was no treasure, so only two guards were assigned to the protection of the lot. The River Road was used often by the King and King’s officers so it was the safest road in the Kingdom.

“Well…. I think most men would say this whole wagon IS a treasure. They should have sent more people with us. Just to keep us from drinking all this! Ha, ha, ha!” Said the driver.

The wagon was full of bottles of the best scotch and the finest grappa; and one huge barrel with the royal seal. A barrel of the most wonderful beer in the whole Kingdom. A beer only the Royal Family could drink. But this barrel had no Royal gut destination.

“One bottle was enough, Jack. We’ll say it broke when the wheel fell apart from the crashing. Where did that rock come from, by the way? You should have been watching the road, not letting the horses do your job. You still have that Roseenth, you can continue with that, after we deliver the rest! Besides, you shouldn’t be drinking and driving. You could start believing huge rocks appear out of thin air again ha ha ha!”

“Hey! I wasn’t drunk….. then….! I had had only two pints!”
“Well how much have you drunk so far today? No pink elephants ahead yet? Ha ha ha!”
“Not yet! He said. “Seriously Velcar, I wish I could taste that golden beauty. What do you think? Should we give it a go? We could do it real quickly, just a bit, no one would know!! There’s plenty of it in that barrel!! One hundred litres maybe?”
“NO! Get a grip, will you? You can drink that pink thing, a sissy drink if you ask me” he said in a mocking way. But then his look turned more serious and solemn.

“We HAVE orders” he continued. “This beer is meant to be drunk at sea. Winterhaven is very far away. I heard the journey might take three months! They will need something like this to bare that long in that damn ship! So let’s hurry, this is your entire fault! Watch the road, you @#%$^*&!!!!!

“OK! Chill out! Why don’t you go in front and watch the road yourself?!” he said under his breath.

They continued in silence for a long while. In the early afternoon they noticed that the vegetation began to look greener, darker, and the light began to dim. Very few sunbeams made it through the dens branches.

“I’m starting to think this was not a good idea”. Said Velcar worried. “I don’t like this, this silence is unnatural and I could SWEAR I’ve seen a couple of eyes looking at us from behind those bushes there, over that rock”
“And I could SWEAR I‘ve just seen Little Red Riding Hood! I must be drunk!” he said surprised.

“Keep your eyes open Jack! I don’t want anymore problems, and WATCH THE ROAD!
“I AM watching the road Velcar, but I’m not sure of what I’m seeing ahead. What the hell is that?” he asked with fear in his voice.
A black figure was standing a few meters ahead, blocking their pass. No recognisable features, Or just no features at all? A black human shape, face and body hidden behind a cloak, no breeze to stir the clothes, no sign of life in it. It was hard to tell what it was.

And then, when they were nearer, a deep, low, almost silent whisper broke the quietness. The ground slightly trembled. A far away thunder was heard, muffled by the forest.

“STOP!” They heard! They weren’t sure if it was a word or a noise but they understood. The horses stopped at once, and stood up on the hind legs in terror, shaking, trying to break free from the harness. Did they understand the command?

The guards had to fight to control them. When the party had fully stopped, three armed men jumped out of a group of bushes nearby and took the guards prisoners. Half shocked, half confused, they couldn’t believe what was happening. They were becoming prisoners, and their precious cargo was being stolen.

Reality hit them like a bucket of iced water thrown right on the face. They looked at each other looking for explanations, asking themselves mute questions. And reality settled. Or so it seemed.
There was no man in black robes, and the noises of the forest had been restored.

(1) Roseenth: Pink coloured alcoholic drink, supposedly made by fairies, obtained by the distillation of rosebuds and honeysuckle. Similar to Absinth…. but pink.  :)

wow! Im really happy you liked it Panos! Thanx for the coments, there is another surprise in next chapter too (like LRRH) you'll enjoy that one!
I don't know what forest it is. I took a pic out of the internet (hard to get but it was just the perfect one, in fact you can't say where the photo ends and the wall starts. I mean is not all photo what you see) and enlarged it and modified it with Photoshop.

Thank you too, Bonnie !!!

In the meantime I'll sit back and enjoy your story telling Gaston!!!  :munch: :munch: :munch: :munch:

Exactly, WOT, that's part of it  ;) The plot will develope until the tournament and then continue depending on how the tournament ends. Or at least depending on how my Knight does it there. I still have to thnk about it....
Thanx for your comments.

Hello guys!
Thanks Elaine!
Sorry for the delay. Here are a few pics of the "behind the scenes".

This is the real take of the first photo in the story. You see? I just redefined the limits of the photo and made a few photoshop touches here and there and I had a very different look from what it was originally(please see pic #1)

This is the photo where the mysterious black figure is disappearing. Again just cut out the bad edges and in this case a little vanishing FX with photoshop too.

And this last one (minus the giant cat) is the location of the house scene. Here just the right spot and a good point of view were enough. It was very uncomfortable for I had the wall very near to me (and I'm a big guy) and the angle was a problem, but I managed by pointing at the scene without looking at the screen. I made a lot of shoots till I found the right angle.

So I would say that LOCATION is the main ingredient here. And also a basic use of PS. Nothing else.
BTW with PS I only erase unwanted things or completed backgrounds. The lighting and colors were just natural..... that or I have a magic cam!  ;D
Should you have any questions please ask! Hope it helps!
Gaston- On my way back home from work I realised that this last scene hasn't been published yet!  so you had a bonus preview of chapter 2!

Seeds

Part 2

The Wolf had crossed the distance between the Sedna Mountain and Blackwood forest as fast as he could. He was the Master of Wolves, the most powerful one, the most vicious and the proudest. The only one Linur would trust.

He put on hold his endeavour only to watch that moment, to savoir it, the moment the wagon would be taken, the moment everything they’ve planned would be put into motion. He enjoyed every second of it and off he went again, running as fast as lightning. A silver flash against a green background. He didn’t even see the girl.
He run through the wide forest, to its southern limit. The Dead Moors, they called it. A secluded small valley where nothing grew or lived, but everything seemed to have eyes or ears; even rocks, even dust. It was the perfect place to hide; no one would dare to go in there, looking for trouble or anything else. There was nothing to look for in fact, but death.

Just passing the southern edge of the woods there was a small wooden house. Peter Hellfner had lived there for 20 years hiding from the world. Purging some guilt, too scared to face what he had done; repenting, longing…..

Morning had found Peter making his daily chores, feeding the animals, preparing his breakfast, cutting wood for the fire.
“Hey Bob….come here Bobby, I had seeds for you, and some nuts, come here Bobby” he called with a jolly voice, axe in one hand, bucket in the other, ready to take the goose he fancied, to kill it fast, with compassion. He learned to be compassioned.

Suddenly he saw those red eyes he always feared, coming out of the woods.

The Wolf would eat this one! He hated humans, he hated their smell most of all, but oh! they were tasty!

He loved they fear him so without taking his eyes from his prey he run down into the dead valley and, when he was close, jumped on the human, who fell back, scared to death.

“No please, I’ve done what you asked me to! Please don’t kill me!” he begged, disgusted by the Wolf’s breath so close to his face.

“Oh I won’t kill you” said the Wolf. “There’s plenty you still have to do for us. Listen! Our Liege will come to check on you at midnight. Answer all the questions and ask none. Do whatever you are asked to, and we will spare a couple of lives as promised.”

“How will I recognise…? But he was interrupted.

“Oh you will” Said the Wolf even closer to his face.

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/Garden%20of%20Heroes%20part%202/14-5-09089.jpg) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/Garden%20of%20Heroes%20part%202/14-5-09096a.jpg)
“Ok, ok. Tonight. Midnight. Whatever I’m asked!” he said out of breath. He closed his eyes waiting for the bite, but the pressure in his chest was gone, and also was the Wolf.

He picked himself up and tried to focus to continue with his labours. Fear made him hungry. And right now he was starving!

Far from Dead Moors, deep into the caves of Sedna, up north, evil forces had been waiting for news.

“Master” said a harsh voice behind him.
“Finally” he thought without taking away his eyes from the fire.

“What news do you bring Panos?” Said Linur turning around to face the Wolf.
“Everything is ready Master. Land and sea are covered. All the pieces are in place. We are waiting for orders.”

“Good….our Liege will be pleased” he said to himself. “Panos, go!…..it’s time to wake up Lasher.”

Part 3

Back in Blackwood forest...

“OK! Together…one…two...now!”  They were trying to lift the barrel out of the wagon.  They only needed that, to take it close to the river, unscratched.

“Steady….slowly…there! Finally. Now let’s make it roll to the side of the river.”
“Do we really have to pour this wonderful beer into the river? We could keep part of it at least!”
“No, but we can take a sip each, that’s all. The rest goes into the water.”

And so, they took some glasses and tasted the golden beer. It was like liquid magic. Golden, foamy, forever cold...magical. But sadly it had to go.

After a little while, feeling warm inside they lifted the barrel and emptied half of it in the peacefully running waters of the Small Arm River.

Then they sealed it again.
“Why only half of it?”
“I suppose it is in case they want to try some before the barrel goes into the pantry of the ship. I just follow orders, I don’t care”

They lifted the huge barrel again, this time was easier, and they took it back with the rest of the cargo.

Two of them got in the front of the wagon and the other one tied two horses to the back of it.
“Where do you have to pick them up?”

“We don’t. There have been a change of plans I was told. They have set up a tent in a rocky area by the river shore, a few miles ahead. We drive there, leave this and ride back here to the camp, pick you up and go to Kartos again. They take care of the rest, whatever it is….. So …we will be back tomorrow at noon”

A few hours later the two men were arriving to their destination.

They could see the rocky section of the forest from the distance and a while later in a clear, the small camp where only one strange tent had been lifted.

They could see three men there waiting. Two of them were familiar friendly faces, the other one was facing the river and they could only see him from behind. At a call, the stranger disappeared into the tent.

“Hey Amilcar! Welcome! How was the trip?” Asked Senghar holding up his hand for Amilcar to shake it.
“All right, we are just tired” He descent and they shook hands and saluted as old friends. The other two also exchanged a few words of welcome.

“Who’s that in the tent?”
“No one”
“No one?”
“Yeah” he said dismissively . “We take it from here. Thanks Amilcar.” He said trying to put an end to the conversation. “It is time for you guys to go back. We’ll manage from this point on”

“Where is your hospitality Senghar? Aren’t you going to give us some food and let us rest for a while? We just got here” said Amilcar in surprise.
“I have orders Amilcar, you know. You and James need to go back right now. Take some provisions for the journey back.”

“Come on! What are you talking about? Let us stay a while and rest! Introduce us to that block and let’s drink and relax”

“You don’t understand” said Senghar taking his arms. He commanded Unek to do the same. “Go now, don’t make me use this against you my friend. This matter is bigger that you think, go now!” He pointed his arc to Amilcar and Unek pointed at James.
Both guys run, scared, took their horses and rode away.

Senghar and Unek looked at each other and walked to the tent. Senghar cleared his throat and obviously nervous, said.
“Captain Julien, they are gone. We must hurry up, we must prepare you. We should get to Coghlan City before sunrise”.

Not far away Amilcar and James had left the horses nearby and hidden themselves behind some rocks. They were intrigued by the luck of hospitality and unfriendly treatment of their comrades. Finally the strangest man emerged from the tent. Someone like they have never seen before. Surely a foreigner. He had a long threaded black bear, an eye patch and very strange clothes.

They couldn’t believe their eyes!!!! He was quite a spectacle in these lands. They had never seen one but they were sure that that man was what a pirate would look like!!! And  they were scared!
Fascinated but terrified they run back to take the horses, decided to get Timmo and get out of that place, surely, very far away.

They got to the camp in a hurry and noisily. Timmo was nowhere to be found. They thought the worst had happened. “Where the hell is my brother Amilcar?” Asked James in desperation. They finally saw him under a tree, napping. When they got to the point Timmo woke up at once…

“Hey, what’s going on? I almost wet my pants!!!!”

“Get all your stuff Timmo, we got to  go far away from here. This kingdom is getting dangerous. Quick! Let’s not leave a trace!”

Captain Julien had a weird accent. He looked sever and he spread around a feeling of respect and fear . Senghar almost couldn’t see him in the eyes.

“OK everything ready then? You get ready first, then me.” It was not a suggestion, but a command.

Both men run to take a trunk from the wagon, carried it to the tent and opened it.

The prisoners’ clothing was in there.

“I’ll go first said Senghar in a whisper. He took what he needed and went to change behind a tree. Weird moment he had chosen to feel shy. When he was done he came out… he look almost exactly like Velcar the guard.

“How do I look?”
“Really good, you look a lot like him”
“Really, what about the moustache? I had to shave mine…. This one is a fake. Could you tell?”
“You look awesome”
Captain Julien rolled his eyes and gave them an impatient look.

Unek saw that and hurried to do his part. When he came out, he was looking a lot like Jack, the driver.

“So?” he asked.
“Good” answer Senghar, aware of the Captain piercing look.

“I made a good job cutting my hair, right? Does it suit me?” Senghar didn’t answer and started to sweat. Unek asked again…. What? It’s the pants?  They make me look fat don’t they? ……

“OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ENOUGH YOU PRINCESSES! RAP IT UP!! GET TO YOUR POSTS!”
Senghar and Unek whished they had longer legs to run faster.

At The Dead Moors, that night.....

Peter had been hungry all day long. The sun had just set and he was making dinner, a very early one. The sky was covered with dark grey clouds and no star was to be seen. A soft constant wind was blowing,  announcing a storm. He felt cosy in his house.
“There are a few more hours till midnight. I’ll be fine” he thought while stirring the stew.

The wind outside was getting stronger. He looked through the windows and saw leaves and pebbles flying in the wind, rolling on the ground as if escaping from something wicked.

The house creaked and moaned as a ship tied to a dock.

Suddenly a strong blast of wind burst open the door and the fire from the oil lamp and the candles went out.

He swore. He run to close the door before everything would be smashed  by the force of the wind coming in.

When he secured the door he walked in the moonlighted room to the kitchen, where he lighted a candle with the fire that remained in the furnace.

With the new fire in his hand ready to light up the oil lamp,  he saw he was not alone.

“My Liege!” He said in terror almost dropping the candle and turning the light out again.  You are early, you weren’t expected until……”
“You dare to scowl me Peter?
“I’m sorry my Liege, I was surprised. Forgive me” he said with his eyes fixed on the floor.
“Light the lamp and shut up.”
“Yes My Liege”

“I came to check on you Peter. Are you well?”
“Yes My Liege, thank you”
“Have you been good Peter? I’ve heard you have been behaving for quite a few years now. It’s a pity…” the tone was mocking.
“Yes” he said scared.
“And did you do everything you’ve been asked? Remember that lives depend on you Peter….” A terrible smile was shown inside the darkened hood. Peter could not see a face….

“I did everything My Liege. They must be on their way to Coghlan right now. They will get there before the ship leaves. The King will……”

“DO NOT NAME HIM IN MY PRESENCE!!!!” Shouted. “Peter…you’ve been good… let’s have a drink”

Peter was petrified. He thought he was stuck to the floor but slowly turning picked up a bottle of his best liquor.

When he looked again, he was completely alone and the door was opened.

He run and secured it again. “As if this would help” he thought locking it up.

Next episode January 7th

I love the water; it looks very much like a rapid creek. is it plastic wrap?

Thanks a lot guys! It's been really hard work this one!
IM happy with it.
The water is indeed transparent and blue cellophane, I think it was Bonnie who suggested that in another thread. So thanx BB or someone else if it wasn't her .
Just a tip.... I used long and thin pieces of blue cellophane and a complete sheet of transperant one....I put the pieces inside the transparent one and rolled it.... that makes the ilusion of depth and running waters.... if it not clear I'll post some pics of the how-to.

Im still resizing pictures,,, they are a lot... sorry!
Thanx for watching!

it might have been, because i have talked about how I do it before, with cellophane. But I think I like your method better! Especially for making it look like running water. It is very convincing. Please do post a how to, I would like to see.  :yup: Next time I am making more water, I will take pictures and make thread for mine, too.

I will post a how to when I have the time. I promise.
The backdrop is just a picture of a forest. The sunlight stream trhoug the trees in the picture, plus real sunlight hits the backdrop giving it a more realistic look. But it is a fotocopy on the wall.  ;)
Thank you for your words!!

Part 4

Sun had risen and Unek was driving the wagon, leaving behind Blackwood and entering Coghlan County. Senghar was by his side, riding Velcar’s horse, wearing his clothes.

It was a beautiful day and from very early people was working in the fields, taking care of animals and doing their daily jobs. It was not strange to see caravans on the way to the City these days carrying goods because of the celebration.

And though everyone they passed looked curiously at them, no one really paid too much attention and continued with their work, wanting to finish fast, to go to the farewell party.

In a moment all was going to be ended and they would be free. The men’s hearts started to bit faster, and their mouths went dry…in the distance, they could see the outline of the City.

Argenland was a peaceful and pacific Realm and had a little army.  People from Argenland were not “sea people”, for their land was vast and extensive and they felt no need to explore new worlds, for they were more than content with theirs.
Therefore, they had no navy nor big ships. Only small fishing boats.

For this enterprise, the King had hired foreign Ship and Crew.

Winterhaven was mysterious to them, a faraway land, beyond the Waterline, were no one in Argenland had gone before.  Nonetheless, Argenland and Winterhaven had common friends, and it was a big celebration after all, so Champions from all over the world had been invited for the 100th anniversary of that foreign kingdom.
So it was a big occasion for Coghlan City, the city were the Royal family resided the biggest city of Argenland. A city that got united once more, to celebrate and to honour its Champion, its Hero.

In a few minutes they were there, passing right by the city outer walls for the city itself was not their destination.

They wished the guards wouldn’t make them stop to check on them or inspect their vehicle.

“oy!” a guard shouted. Unek’s and Senghar’s hearts just stopped.
“Hurry up! You are late!” he added.

Unek waved at him and nodded.

“Make way! Make way for the Royal wagon!” Other guard ordered.

They got to the beach and the Captain of the ship saw them from the deck and asked one of his men to bring them to the shore near the improvised dock.

When this was done he joined them there, he shook their hands and very seriously but relieved said

“You are late!”
“Sorry Sir, we know. But the goods were delivered to us late as well. We came as soon as we could. All went well and according to plan, except for the lateness. We can download your precious cargo wherever you ask us to.”
“I just hope it’s in one piece….for the sake of all of us” he added
“Yes Sir, in one piece.” He smiled.
“You have done a good job and will be rewarded. It’s better if you leave everything at the beach near the rest of the stuff and go back to Kartos this instant. Wait for further instructions there”
“Yes Sir, it’s been a pleasure working for you.” They bowed and left.

Then the Captain got on the ship again, he looked at one of his men and said under his breath “You know what to do. Let them finish their job first.”

Soon everything was being loaded into the ship.

The improvised dock was constructed to be easier for the boat to get near dry land and take all the goods to the crane that would raise them into the ship.

Barrels, bottles, trunks, food, all needed for the journey. The live animals for food and the horses for the tournament had been lifted earlier and were already accommodated in the lower-most hold where no sailor would stay. There also laid the beer barrel, carefully lifted into the ship and placed comfortably.

There were also strange big packages  with  signs on them that read “DO NOT OPEN UNTIL CAPTAIN SAYS SO”  Surely the King’s men would inspect the ship before its departure or the gentleman for whom they were working would come down to check on his beloved horses. They had to be careful about that the whole trip. This man would check on his horses every day.
The ship was near the beach for it was a bay deep enough for a ship that size. Its name was Oscuro. There was also a smaller boat that would be tied up to the back of the Oscuro, which would hurry first with news when they were near Winterhaven announcing the imminent arrival of Sir Enok del Eden and his crew.

This vessel had a second crew of three sailors, who would stay at the main ship as passengers until it was time for them to leave. They would take no orders, nor would get any work to do for they were not considered crew members on the Oscuro.

Panos made quite an entrance.  Linur was in meditation, observing the sacred fire.

“Sir, I’m sorry to interrupt” said Panos agitated.  “I bring bad news”. At these words Linur stood up.
“What?” he asked calmed.
“We can’t find The Keeper. Without him there’s nothing we can do for Lasher”

“Send someone to Odgen. And you go to Ostira. Find him!!!!” he shouted.
Panos run out.

“Boy, bring Uglik, right now!” he shouted to the closest servant.

Some minutes later a small girl appeared, cute and blonde. She had the sweetest little face and the most beautiful smile. She said: “what the *#$”&@ do you want? And that made Linur smile.

At the beach near Coghlan a stand had been built for King Edward and the rest of the small royal family for the short ceremony. Behind the stand the impressive ship could be seen, huge, silent, waiting in the quiet water.

The sun had begun to sink and storm clouds were invading the sky painting a blue-grey-orange background. It was quite a view.

The Royal family had been watching the huge vessel with amazement and curiosity. As well as they watched the crew. They thought they looked pretty odd, all with different uniforms, only sharing the same design for the hat.

“That’s the way it is across the sea” said Princess Esther in a “mrs.-know-it-all” kind of manner. “When you spend too much time in one of those…things…, you want to change your clothes often. The sea air makes you clothes stick to your body. And how many uniforms should they have then? So they have their own clothes and the hat IS the uniform. Wouldn’t you say they all belong to the same group?” She finished pointing.

The King took his place followed by the rest and immediately the crowd fell silent, for he was a very respected and beloved King.
With obvious joy he said:

“People of Coghlan! Fellow Argenlanders! Today is a good day. An historical day!  Today the friendship that bonds us together with King Darrnald and the people of Winterhaven will be renewed and strengthened for ever. For the first time in the history of our kingdom, a fellow Coghlan citizen, will travel to those faraway lands to meet our friends and join them in a worldwide celebration! The Winterhaven Knight’s Tournament.
It is a great honour for me, my Queen and this Kingdom to send our Champion, beyond the Waterline, to our friend’s houses for this event.

People of Argenland…. I present to you…. Sir Enok del Eden!”
At these words the whole town exploded with the sound of applauses, cheers, and praises to welcome him.
Enok walked in front of the stand and took his place, humble, even shy, and overwhelmed as always by these demonstrations of love and devotion.

“Fellow citizens! It is an honour for me to serve my King and my Queen. It’s my duty and pleasure to honour them and my happiness to be part of this endeavour. I leave Coghlan full of hope and happiness, for, not only I will meet wonderful people in a fantastic experience, but also because I will be reunited with my dear cousin, who I haven’t seen in fifteen years. Sir William Blackhurst!”
At this name again people shouted and applauded, for Sir William was a beloved hero too, and son of Princess Esther, wife of the King’s brother, Sir Julius Soggy Bottom.
The King spoke again.

“Sir Enok… I present here a gift from Argenland to the Royal family of Winterhaven. Please take it and give it to them in our behalf.”

Two guards entered carrying a big wooden trunk. It seemed heavy for the way they walked. They placed it at Enok’s feet.

The champion asked for permission and opened it.

It was full to the top with huge rough diamonds. Everyone was amazed, even the Princess, who looked greedy.
“My King, I will give this treasure to King Darnald on your behalf and I’ll praise you for your generosity” They both bowed to each other.
Next Princess Esther took the stand and said.

“My dear nephew! I envy you because you’ll be able to see my beloved son William whom I’ve missed every day of my life since he left to the North Country. But I’m happy for the same reason. I too want to trust you a treasure, with the permission of our King, but to give to my son on my behalf.”

Again two guards entered bringing a trunk. This time made of wood and iron. This one looked heavier.

“This is a new armour. For I’m sure Bill is still using the one his father left him. Take it to him as my gift and beg him to wear it. It is made of gold and is very strong. I have exchanged letters with Winterhaven’s famous blacksmith Thair Caolstriker and he agreed to fix it to fit Bill’s body.”
Then they both embraced.

Cheers again came from the crowd. Women wept and men were touched.
Princess Esther said in Enok’s ear “Tell him he is missed and loved”
“I will your Highness” he whispered back.

And so, he said farewell to his fellow citizens and full of dreams got into the boat that would take him to Oscuro.

End of Chapter Seeds.
Tomorrow there will be a very short chapter called "Billy and me"
Stay tunned!

ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT, GASTON!!! So beautifully done, just from an artistic point of view. Your backgrounds, the water, the way the photos were arranged, the stage. I loved the stage! :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: It looks like a high-budget photo story!  Nice touch in there about Sir William, too.  :)9

And of course, the story is truly enthralling; I was quite caught up in it! Can't wait to see the rest!

GARDEN OF HEROES.

Enok's tales
Part 1

Several weeks went by and Enok lost his initial fear of the sea and the crew. He had asked not to be sent with servants for he was humble and didn’t want to spend the Realm’s gold. So he was alone in the ship and the crew scared him. They were so different from the men and women he used to know!  As days went by, they all showed him loyalty and good service. Soon the crew started to like their new boss and it became a ritual to get together on deck after dinner to hear one of Enok’s stories. He had a thing for tales. They said he knew how to talk and use his tongue…. So they named him the “Tonguello”….. “the teller”.

When moon was full and high in the black sky, they particularly liked to put out all the lights and let the moon shine on the deck while they listen to his stories. Sometimes Bijou would play his accordion, others, the captain would play a melancholic tune with his guitar, but all of them stop their chores, and listened, as if they were drunk by words.
One night, a week before they got to Winterhaven, Tina the cook, asked him about his cousin Sir William. This is his tale:

“When I met the famous Sir William Blackhust, he was still Billy Soggy Bottom. We are cousins. His mother and my mother were sisters. When my mother died I was 4 and as I never knew my father my aunt Esther took me. She had been the baker of Coghlan castle like my mother and then she fell in love and married Prince Julious Soggy Bottom, so since very young I got to live in Court with them.

The Castle grounds were our playground. We became best friends, even brothers and we were always together.

We played together.

We were scared together.

We fought each other sometimes.

We grew up together and fascinated by Knights and sports. So we started to train together.

Eventually we competed against each other, but we were always satisfied no matter who won.
So once when our names were well known in the Sport’s world we were invited to a Tournament in the North Country, the most famous Tournament in the region. We started to train harder than before.

But in that training I got injured and had to stay home.
He went alone to the North Country as a Prince and a Knight and not only won the Tournament with great honours, but he also won the Princess’ heart. Miss Francia Blackhusrt.

Eventually they got married and out of love he took her name, William Blackhurst. He never came back to Coghlan so I haven’t seen him since we said goodbye they day he left 15 years ago. In a week we’ll meet again”

And with that he turned around and stared at the blackened sea.

Hope you like it! I had to work doble shift to finish before the tournament!
A very special thanks to Bill and Gis who provided their support and ideas for this part of the story!

Wow! Impressive! How come I missed this thread until now???
Luckily you mentioned it in the WJT thread, Tonguello. I love everything, the story, the pictures, the atmosphere. I can't wait for the next chapter.
The idea of printing the background picture for the forest shoots is really clever; it helps you getting a good lighting of the scenes and spares a lot of time on Photoshop too! I think I might use it someday.
All congrats!

Thanx Arnaud! Yes the background is a good idea and helps a lot photoshop hours  ;D It's easier also and the results are great!
For next chapter I need to know what happens with WJT, for both stories are entwined and from between all the choices I have I need to know what happens with my Knight before I go on

I'm totally awe struck, Gaston! I've been following this story like a first class rated novel! The scenery, the lighting, the sepia effects, the entire story project is,......well,.....magnificent :wow:! :high5: Your introduction of my champion is beyond my most humble expectations! You keep raising the bar in the field of photo stories, & you are teaching us new effects that are fantastic! Thank you again for including me in your story :thanks:!

A few days have passed since Linur had news from his messengers. Darkness was still and everlasting in mount Edna and Linur was pensive, worried, watching the flames. His faithful leopard pet, laying at his feet.

He saw in the flames a big shadow approaching and he said without turning.
“Panos, you are finally here. Do you bring the news I’m expecting?”
“No Master, we know nothing about the Keeper yet, I bring news of some unexpected event”

This caught Linur’s attention and so he turned.
“Well? What is it?”
“Master we intercepted a messenger. He was carrying important news to King Edward”

“Let me be the one to judge that. Do you have the message? Give it to me. And bring the messenger too.”

“Master…the messenger…” He couldn’t finish. He didn’t need to, for in that instant two wolves entered carrying the messenger”

“THIS is the messenger? I guess he was very much more alive when you caught him?”

“Master I didn’t give the order to…”
“WHERE IS THE MESSAGE?”

Another wolf entered carrying the message. Linur took it and read it by the fire.

“These are great news indeed. A Tournament in Marketon” He was thinking fast, making new plans from these news. “Enok must be still in Winterhaven. This is great! Take this invitation and guard it with your life. Ask Shenka to forge a personal request from King Edward to Sir Paul in Hessania to attend this tournament representing Argenland. He must go alone or with his personal assistant, no one else, it must be very clear. GO!”

Panos left and Linur turned his sight again to the fire. “That fool Sir Paul will not be a problem anymore. With him out of the realm it will be a lot easier to make Hessania kneel before us. My Liege will be pleased.”

A few days later, morning found Sir Paul in the Throne Hall , attending  his daily chores. Agaphite Gupta, Sir Pauls’ personal friend and assistant entered the Hall with exciting news.

“Sir Paul, there is a messenger from Coghlan City, bringing a personal request from King Edward.”
“Don’t make him wait Aggi. Let him in”

A messenger with the Royal Banner came into the hall. He bowed and without a word gave a letter and the invitation to Sir Paul.
Sir Paul read both and jumped out of the throne in excitement.

“FANTASTIC! Aggi, give this messenger some food and drinks. Send an answer to the King telling him I gladly accept. We leave to Pavelonia in two days. Quick we have things to do”

Two days later, at dawn they left the castle. A long journey awaited them.

“Sir I still think it is very odd that only the 2 of us must go. We would need at least 15 people for this endeavour.”

“King Edward believes this is the best way.  And it is imperative that the kingdom goes on with its everyday life as if I was still here. I do wish there would be some small crowd to wave us goodbye though”

But they were not alone at all. A silver dying moon and a cold breeze were already travelling with them… to Pavelonia.

You guys should hear the story out loud with special voices for each character. ;D
It is really eerie the way I think Linur sounds, but there is power behind his failing voice. :hmm:
Magnificent story Gaston! :wow:

yes it continued but in the Winterhaven tournament. The thread GIS made.
Then there was a short story about the Kinght I sent to the Marketon Tournament.

The second part of Garden of Heroes will be about what happened after Enok leaves Winterhaven... with princess Silvy's affection and King Garland's friendship.  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
