Voila!
My ebay purchase that I have been excited about all week has finaly arrived - the rare western house. So rare that I have never seen one for sale before so I had to have it!
(http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/5576/picturegk.jpg) (http://img249.imageshack.us/i/picturegk.jpg/)
It is missing a few parts, but mostly still there, and a steal at just over £10 ;)
However, I believe it to be th Trol (Brazil) version, and not the German one, as the windows have no stops on them at all, giving that 'cheap' feel, and also because of what I got in another lot from the same seller ;)
Damo :)

Nice, it looks very good. :)
-
Very cool, Damo. I like the color. What parts are missing?

I know why you missed it, Elaine :D The seller made a catastrophic error with their listing

It hooks on the side, Damo (see attachment).
-
Richard, I think Damo probably means how the stairs work with one building on top of another!
for example, how to use the stairs to get to the top. :eh?:

Elaine, maybe this picture from the 1978 catalog will help. The stairs hook onto the 2nd floor baseplate in front of the 2nd floor building.

I am really shocked by this statement - you are not new to Playmobil so use your imagination or try it out... (although now you have seen it already in the pictures).

Brilliant Damo!!! Simply brilliant!!! I love what you did and I am anxious to see the rest!!!

I don't know how it never occured to me that you could stack these buildings. I guess I would have figured it out if I had more than one!

A question for you, Damo!
As, Stefan said, "you are not new to Playmobil" ... So, I am curious about whether or not you like the "construction system" used by these Playmobil western houses.
As you probably know, Damo, the western houses and fort were the first construction system produced by Playmobil. (Please see attachment.)
This unnamed system was introduced in 1976. It was eventually replaced by the Steck System which came out the following year (1977). Steck was first produced as a medieval castle and medieval house construction system. Later the Steck system was extended to include all Playmobil construction (including the western buildings). However, the western buildings were not replaced with Steck until the Western Train was introduced in 1987. (Please see attachment.)
Now for the question, Damo ... Do you like this first Playmobil construction system as much as Steck? Or, do you like Steck better? How about SystemX ... Do you like this first western construction system as much as SystemX. Or, do you like SystemX more?
Just curious ... :eh?:
All the best,
Richard

My apologies for being a bit off topic, Damo!
The attached picture was on the site that Andi mentioned above.
I do not remember ever seeing it before. Is it Playmobil? Does anyone know?

No problem, Richard - I too have always wondered where those stairs come from. They work with Steck don't they?
As regards to the Western construction system, I think they look great, however, they are the most precarious, annoying and may I say tacky things anyone could possibly have to try and assemble. However as I said they really do look good ( when doors, posts etc aren't hanging off)! Steck is still by far my favourite
Damo :)

About these stairs...I have them too but I thought there sere from these sets...
3433 - Safari Station (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3433)

I would never imagined to look there!! Thanks!!!
The stairs are soooooo cool in every world you would like. Western, medieval, citylife,...... I think I bought more than 5 3634 and every single one I saw. Should have round about 10 of them. ;D
-
Excuse me?
You are excused! ;D
I have seen various pics, with the steps done in various different ways, and I wasn't sure which was the best way
That's exactly it: there' s no BEST way, it's only the BEST way YOU like it - but that's what it's all about. That's why we see so many incredible customs here and elsewhere - because people don't build a house according to a building plan but they use their imagination and create something different.
So attach your ladder on the right, left, front or back or just leave it off - whatever's the BEST WAY YOU LIKE IT.

I am really impressed. I am looking forward to seeing a big display of your Western theme. Just how big could it be?

Well, if you are impressed by these three buildings, then boy are you going to be amazed by the rest!
I have made my own custom drug store, forts, and towns Although I have never set it all up together before so I don't really know what (or how big) it could all be 8}
I have loads of forts, and huge armies of soldiers, but there won't be enough room in the car to bring them to display I don't think :(
Apart from my train, I have never shown any pics of my Western collection, as I just haven't the time to set it all up
Damo :)
-
It could be bigger than these ... ;)
These are great pics, Richard - so many ways to build the Western buildings
Are the second ones yours, Richard :)

Yes, the second group are from my Western collection, Damo ... :)

Nice purchase, Damo! :)
Even though the early Western buildings were on the small side, I really like them and wish I had them all for my Western town.

Yes, they wern't designed like the latest Playmobil buildings with complete playability in mind
I much prefer the later Sheriffs office and Golden nugget saloon. I made custom drug store from the headquarters building of the Fort Eagle, so I could get my hands in properly and creat a nice little store 8-)

I really like the later Sheriff's Station and Saloon a lot too! I've been trying to make a town building out of the Fort Eagle headquarters too, although I need some more parts to complete it. I'll be turning it into either a bank or a general store. :cowboy:

I am intrigued - what is the story behind the figure in black carrying the scimitar in the second picture?

Wesley, those pictures were from some old photos that I posted HERE (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1428.0) a couple of years ago. That particular figure was a "Stranger in Town" (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1428.msg23708#msg23708) and I'm not sure if anyone knew who he really was ... ;)

Well, I'm sure I do not know who he is, or I wouldn't have asked ...
OK, Wesley ... Here's the story the way it was told to me:
(My apologies, Damo, for "thread-jacking" your topic.)
The "Stranger's" name was Samuel Thomas Ranger. However he was only known by his initials ST Ranger. Hence ... "Stranger".
Not much was known about his father. "Stranger's" father was either a diplomat or missionary to China. His mother was Chinese. And, that's about all anyone appears to have known.
When "Stranger" was very young his parents were murdered by a band of Chinese bandits. A Shaolin monk found "Stranger" wandering alone down a desolate dirt road. The Monk brought the young lad to the Shaolin monastery where he raised him as his own son.
The young "Stranger" was an excellent student and became proficient in all the teachings of the Buddist monks. His adopted father was sure that the young "Stranger" learned English as well as Chinese and several other languages for he knew that the day would come when "Stranger" would leave the monastery.
When "Stranger" turned eighteen he did indeed leave the monastery and began his trek to England. On the way he saved the daughter of the Pasha (Bashaw) of Tripoli from some renegade Barbary Pirates. The Pasha showed his never ending gratitude by presenting "Stranger" with a very unusual silver/steel alloy curved sword.
Our picture was taken when "Stranger" was in his mid-forties. At the time, his travels were taking him through the American old west.
There are many stories about "Stranger". Perhaps, some day we'll show them here as "photo stories" ... ;)
