Title: What is your best playmobil moment??
Post by: Heronimus on September 01, 2010, 04:32:21
Be it playing with your kids in the funpark, or winning the ebay auction at the very last second, thanks to your bandwidth.

Please share with us your BEST PLAYMOBIL MOMENT

Mine would be a long time friend working overseas giving me a surprise when we met for reunion, bringing out a special that I have been looking for for months. I knew that could be purchased from ebay, but the price is just not reasonable for the rational inner me. And the best part is I have only mentioned this once in my facebook comment. :P

They are so many.... But i think this one time, a few days in the raw actuall, that I had a major naval battle with my 3750 pirate ship and the bottom of its box.... This was back in the first year of high school. Since I had no second ship to make the battle, I placed the redcoats int eh bax and started chasing the 3750 ship....What a glorious battle it was  !!!!

interesting question Heronimus!  :)

like most of us....PM has and continues to give us so many 'best' moments that we think the best is yet to come....launch of the Romans? launch of a whole Samurai theme?  ;D

but I have an unforgetable moment many many years back,
you see, I liked these redcoats they were selling at our TRU, about 23 years ago but PM soon disappeared from countries around here....for years I thought Playmobil had closed down  :P

Everywhere I went and through travelling friends, I never failed to show them pictures of PM....

...until one day when I searched the internet and found GB very much alive and the redcoats I was pining for...can you imagine my excitement at that moment?  ;)

For me it has to be the day I saw the Romans in a department store in Ealing (about a mile from my house then), and bought several sets on the spot (with wifely approval). I went back about two hours later and bought more, having been limited by what I could carry safely on a bicycle! That started my current collecting craze, though I did have a few sets tucked away from previous years which I soon dug out to show my wife this was not a sudden obsession, but merely the renewal of a lifelong relationship.

Great Question Heronimus!

For me it must have been this last May at Playmobil Planet. When I finally realized how many of "us" are out there. Which let to become active on ebay, my first castle, and joining here.

there are many great moments.... but, if I had to chose one of them, this one is unbeatable:

when I was a kid, I asked for the Victorian House... saying it could be a collective gift, or it could make for both my birthday and Christmas... I've asked for it for 5 years in a row, at every Christmas and every birthday... but I never got it (you would have thought that such a constancy would be noticed and rewarded, though... but...)...

when my husband (well he was my boyfriend at that time) and I moved together in our 1st appartment, in 2002, we had already a few Playmobils, Police things for him (as he had just begun the police school) and Farm things for me (I've been brought up in the countryside... and I'm fond of animals, cats especially...)...

Of course, the house was not in shops anymore, and we hadn't heard of auction sites yet... so, it was clear for me that, unless I'd found a time machine, I would never have it...

I didn't know that, going to make an inquiry in an old toy shop which had been robbed in a neigbouring town, my Titi would find a brand new 5300 mansion... he bought it directly, stored it at his job, brought it home when I was working...

On Christmas day, there was a huge pack in the living room for me... I really had no idea 'bout what it was... and, honestly, when I finally opened it, I cried in earnest... and jumped everywhere at the same time... since then, this house is my treasure, and I always pay much, much attention to it, and spend a lot of time rearranging things in it when we make a new dio.... I'm soooooo fond of it!!

My best playmobil moment, is surly, when I fill up my car on several collector meetings in Germany.

Round about all two or three months, I drive to such a meeting. All the things I buy in the time between two meetings, are shipping to nice members of klickywelt in Germany, which also are on the meeting. So there are 4 or 5 different once who do this for me! :yippee: :)9

The last pics I made of such a kind, had been made in may this year. But this things, weren't for me. We picked up some parts for the fairy tail carcel, which my wife is building up right now.

But take a look what it looks like. So you could imagine, why these are the best moments. ;)

I have a few:

Childhood:
-the moment I got a 3450 steck castle from 'Sint-Maarten'. At that time, I had a green tailor's house, a barn and a blacksmith. The 3450 addition made me dream of a medieval town.
-the moment I got a green drug's store. At that time, I had a grey sherrif's office and a yellow saloon. The green house made a western street kind of complete and I finally had the feeling that the cowboys had a real town to hide for the evil northern state soldiers from fort Randall.

As an adult collector:
-the collector's meeting at Brubil's place a few years ago in Belgium. Meeting so many Playmobil enthusiasts was fun. It's totally different than the one way Playmobil talk I usually have with family and friends.
-the completion of my castle Neveling.
-the find of 2 medieval inn 3448 and the museum in a tiny toy store in Sint-Niklaas some years ago. Although the seller was a real j*** it was my best find in a toy store ever.

But two weeks ago, le moment suprème, was, I almost don't dare to say it  :-[:
-Exactly one year ago, I lost a box with almost 2000 parts in it: large barrel, planewagens, ox carts, market stands, rare klickies, some sys-x parts, some painted steck parts, and lots and lots of other accessories were gone. I searched the attic for days. I opened every box and checked and looked and searched, nothing... Until two weeks ago, I opened a gigantic box containing most of my steck castle parts. Burried under some of the wall parts, there was the box I lost last year. It's strange how people react at home, most of them are almost disappointed when I tell them I found back the collection on the attic. They expect some spectacular finding place like: 'oh, I thought the recycling company called you one second before the box was about to be crushed by a two ton hammer crusher'  ;D

I don't have many moments yet but I do love it when my 3 1/2 year old daughter says “Daddy, can we play castle warriors?" She calls all playmobil castle warriors. Sometimes I just build and watch her and my two year old son just have a ball playing.

My best playmobil moments... that's an easy one. :)
In 1981 I got the 3550 for christmas as a present...
...and then, 25 years later, in 2006 I got the 3740 (MIB) as a present.  :cloud9:

Both events are hard to compare, as I haven't opened the 3740.  ::)
...but, definitely, for me it is with pirate ships... :)

best,

These comments all bring joy to my heart!

Elric:  playing Playmo with the kids is probably my favortite Playmo memory - it is wonderful!
Mina:  your husband sounds wonderfully sensitive to your wishes - he's a keeper!
Kenc:  I am so happy that you found your lost Playmobil!  I remember when you told us that it was lost - so sad  :'(

My best moments are most like Elric's but here's a "worst:  about 12 years ago I failed to buy an open but complete western train set priced at $99 on the post-Christmas clearance table at a local toy store.   :hissyfit:

It has to be on 31st July this year when all my Playmo displays were set up in the village hall and the first visitors came through the door and just stood there looking round in amazement and smiled!
Even though I'd been up all night all my tiredness vanished!  :)
Everyone who came in smiled - the atmosphere was amazing.

You don't like the Egyptians?  ???

Alex, you personally may not like much that Playmobil have produced in the last few years, but the vast majority of people here do. I think you need to adjust your thinking towards the product if you're not going to be destined for a lot of disappointment.

My then girlfriend (now my wife) found a Set #3286 Pirate Flagship, which had been off the market for about Ø2 years at that point. It wasn’t new, and had a couple parts missing, but she found it (and largely intact), then bought her for me (I named her EAGLE).

¿Did I mention she’s my wife now?

I didn't mind the Egyptians. The only thing that bugged me a bit was the light blue colour they used for the trims. I didn't like that, but apart from that, I bought most of the smaller sets.

I have three, really.

The first was when I received my very first set as a child, an adorable little covered wagon set. I thought it was the most wonderful thing in the whole world. I don't think there's any way to describe how I felt at that moment.

The second was years later, after my years of being "too old" for toys were over, when I decided to see if playmobil was on the internet now!   Of course, it was, and I was so overwhelmed by how much it had expanded since I was a kid.

The third was when I saw the first pictures of the new safari sets with hyenas and ostriches. I literally couldn't breathe I was so excited. I almost fainted, I think! My husband was sitting where he couldn't see my computer screen, and he thought I was dying or something.   :yippee: :omg: :yippee:

accutually    i'am not that desperate as my previous post showed about the new products ,acctually i don't really mind to tell you the truth ,i stay with the sets from the past and i'am happy with them ,but yes i'am disapointment from the new productions ,i barely go to toy stores just for a look and i ignore most of the sets , i believe in the next years we'll see many intresting new sets  :)

I'd say "Go for it! Mina"  It was well worth all the effort.
I spent a few years not suggesting it to my fellow village hall committee members because I thought they wouldn't want to go along with my suggestion, but when it came down to it they were all for it and enjoyed it.  One of the ladies spent most of the weekend showing people how the flowers in the garden centre 'grew' when they were watered!  I'm going to present her with a klicky with a watering can at our meeting on Monday

I had a lot of "best" moments.
The oldest I remember is when I was 14 I think, 15 maybe. I played roller hockey at that time. I was a "back", a defense. Don't know the exact word in english. I was very good at that cause I was huge for my age. But as I played at the back never had the chance to score. So my dad to encourage me to do it told me that whenever I scored he would buy me a Playmospace Ship that I have been wanting, that was very expensive and we weren't rich. He signed a paper as a kind of contract (I still have it). Everyone knew about this, the whole team and their parents.
So one Sunday, only God knows how, I shoot from the back of the field and I scored! So everyone on our side shouted PLAYMOOOOBIL PLAYMOOOOBIL instead of goaaaaaaaal!!!
And that's how I got my Playmospace 3535!  :brownhair: :woohoo: Funny....and a great moment! I got the box a few days after that.

You were 15 already....HAHAHA
Sometimes I just feel bad I fell back in love with playmobil too late in my life. I have simply missed a lot of opportunities buying some cool figures. :'(
It is the blue roman warrior that made me a collector. I was all shopping around in the shopping mall during office lunch time and got into the toysrus, and suddenly saw a pile of specials standing in the aisle. At that moment I was like, oh...how come playmobil is getting this all pinky design. But still, it is the content in it that matters and I chose the roman warrior, which is my first playmobil in my adulthood. :P :P :P
I remember seeing the boxes of playmobil in the FAO located in Las vegas, which was like five years ago, and now I feel regret that I didnt grap some of them. :hmm:

I have a whole folder on this, in my facebook (.../playmobileiro).

My best playmo set EVER is the Tailor's house, 3440.
The one that counts as #2 is the 3740, ("fair") Schooner.
#3, the Blacksmith robber, 3125.
#4 (maybe #1 of the moment) is the (complete) Treehouse, 4460 (attached). (By "complete" I mean, with accessories :inlove: ).

I'm crazy about it mainly because it's my dream house for Fletcher the Adventurer!

There are loads of (er .. not loads, but quite a few) others in the album, but these are the main ones.

I was crazy about the blue timbered house, I got one, in the end of 2009. Also, the Royal Kitchen, 4251, which I eventually got as well, around those days. A friend sent me a 4444 Kanonensegler, so, I have a good boat, don't need more than this for now, for present projects.

(I've been getting myself dreaming about the Royal Treasure (4255), since I began using the Kitchen as Feorctegot's home, I liked the room, and would like to improve it, but, to tell the truth, I need more timbered houses before, I think, as well as trees and landscape (stones) which I hope to manage to get reasonably soon ...)

That's about it.

Great to read all these playmo moments.

Mine was when I got my pirate ship when I was 10 years old or something. I knew I was going to get it for my birthday. My parents had tried to keep it a secret. But the toyshop around the corner had one in stock. It disappeared just before my birthday.

Then I discovered a big wrapped box, about the right size in my parents bedroom. That was all I needed to know.

Dreamt about it for days and almost didn't sleep the night before the big day.

My favorite was when I got a 3667 for Christmas!
I was 9 or 10, and I was looking under the tree when I saw a large box with my name on it.
I took it out, opened it up,
and there lying in front of me was the beautiful box of a 3667.

I remember taking it down to the basement
and pouring over the instructions with my mom trying to figure out how it worked. :P
It was great! ;D

My best Playmobil moment is undoubtedly when I purchased the complete Victorian House back in the summer of 1990 with all the rooms sets, the horse carriage and the oldtimer car

I remember taking a cab and bringing all the boxes home and opening them with a glass of chilled rose.

Discovering the beautiful and intricate details of the sets was pure heaven then and the feeling has lasted for the past 20 years  :cloud9:

Love this sentiment, Karim.  That is what I think makes Playmobil so woderful.  No matter what series you are interested in, they are made with such attention to detail.  They just make you happy to be around them.

yes, I remember even as a young child just being filled with wonder as I saw the amazing detail of Playmobil. There is no toy in the world that comes close.
