Title: Archangels' Castle
Post by: grangel on August 17, 2010, 21:41:35
This August i was planning to present you my two new steck creations. But the Hellenic Post has let me down for one more time.I have not received all my packets until now.But i'll keep my promise and i shall try to present you one of them as good as i can.The Castle has many parts that are incomplete but is  complete enough to get the point. Also i had to find a spot in my mother in low cottage to build the castle in the garden. The problem is that the garden is overcrowded with vegetables!!

The castle's Name is: The Castle of Archangels

Defenders: Templar Knights
Attackers: Golden Dragon Army (Without siege weapons (catapults, siege cannons and siege towers))

So, this is the first part of photos

This is one amazing Castle Grangel. I cant stop looking at it. and the amount of klickies manning it is also just WOW.

So many stunning details!

The entrance is reall nicely done. The front towers without the top the back ones with.

I can go on and on!! I can't wait for more pictures...or the eminent attack!

The castle is astounding, Grangel!  Such attention to detail.  I think the squash vines on the right would be a perfect place for dragons to lurk!  ;D

The parts could be from a 3666, but only 1 3666 would not be enough to make a castle this size. :o
The parts could also have come from a 3667 or any other form of "steck" castle. :)

This idea for the dragons is great!!!! but i'm too far from home and without dragons. This morning i have set up the attacking force but as i have wrote you i have only one siege tower with me.I have forgotten my siege towers, cannon and catapults home.i try to have the dragons in pictures tonight.

The castle consists from 3666,3667 and there some special pieces from older sets like 3450..etc

Normally the castle will have two square towers and first level decks but i have not received them  yet

Fantastic castle Grangel, especially as you are still awaiitng parts.

I'd love to see some more detailed pics, I notice some neat touches like the door allowing access to the ramparts of the lowest gate section.

It's nice to see a castle outdoors, in its proper milieu.

Very, very nice!

Setting up and besieging the castle outside works really well!

Have the attackers thought about trying to undermine the castle walls? Some of the pictures seemed to suggest that the ground could easily be dug away, leading to the collapse of a wall... Just an idea

Cheers,

The Grand Master of Templars knowing that his men are very little and they cannot defend this section of castle gives the order to retreat to the inner castle. There his chances to hold the castle  are better......
The dragons raging everypart of outer section and taking positions to hold it...

Sorry, but i hit the post button and i went downstairs to put my son to bed.I have just returned.
By the way i start this project thinking of one single day of building the castle and the klickies. But the temptation was so strong that i have decided to play along the siege story. The craziest is that the neighbours have notice the baby garden battle and they are curious about the result. Yes! the cleaning is very borrowing but the feeling of the dirt and all this muddy stuff is a feeling that coming from my childhood. It makes me feeling like ten years old again!!!!!!!!!!.

Its becoming a very climatic siege Angelo!!! Personally, and as Martin has pointed out, I prefer the castle to be in a natural enviroment like the one you Angelo, are shooting the pictures!! Look how great it works for various themes and stories!! Damo's photostories are fantastic, not only because he is so good with stories, setting up his playmobil, shooting great pictures, but because he does so in the garden!!!

I would do the same as Damo and Angelo if I had a garden.... And its too much to take my playmobil to my parents summerhouse and shout there...(pack, unpack set up, shoot, un-setup, bring back....) Not to mention my parents starting all their crazy critique....
Title: Re: Archangels' Castle

That's it !! the drawbridge has fallen and the Dragons are entering the castle. The Lord of Golden dragons knowing that the Templars are too little in numbers to defend this stronhold and throws into battle more troops. He Knows right now that the Templars lost their confidence......
The Dragons keep storming the castle from different sides and the Templars do not have the manpower to defend those attacks...

Suddenly from the Vegetables Forest Canyon an army appears. The King Alexander has kept his promise but he come too late.He can not find a way to help the Templars.

The Commander of Dragon Elite Guard shouts: ELITE GUARD ON ME !!!! and taking defensive positions to the king's army.

The Lord of Golden Dragon shouts to the commanders of the cavalry : Throw your cataphractes against the king's army i need that fool and his elite guard force here at the siege. Today the menu has royal blood!!!!

The King's Alexander army taking defensive positions!!!

The Crazy Old Wolf and his Elite Guard are attacking and the Heavy Cavarly of the Dragons advancing against the king's army.

Meanwhile, the Dragons try to crush the inner castle's Gate and they have managed to get access to the left side of the inner castle high deck. The situation for the Templar is now desperate!!! if the King's army had come earlier it would be a winning advantage but now they would be casualties.............!!!

A soldier should be die with honour in the battle but not without a cause!!!

This tragic view from the top floor of Archangels' Castle Keep gives to the Grand Master of Templars two options..:

Surrender and save your brave men or die and leave them to slaughter by the dragons.

Thanks for your posts !! I hope to enjoy it as i did!

I already thought an end for my story. But i want to let you decide the end......

Let me Know      Surrender as strategic move to save your men!
                                                                                         OR
Die in honor and take your men with you!

I enjoyed this very very much!!

I do not know the ways of the dragon knight, but sometimes surrender means certain death.

I think they should not surrender or defend. I think they should attack! It's their only chance.
Title: Re: Archangels' Castle
Post by: WarriorOfToys on August 20, 2010, 12:41:29
The Templars in Historical period would not have surrendered as they were never allowed to be ransomed.
(It was against their code.)

So they only had two options left, Execution, or Slavery.
A Templar would always choose to be executed because it would bring them into heaven with our Lord. 0)
So death awaited them either way.

Many Muslim chroniclers tell of the Templars being executed with smiles on their faces.
They were not ever afraid to die.

SO,
The Templars would die with honor!
And they would never do such a thing as surrender.

Though they might ask for King Alexander to leave in order to save his men.

I vote a LOTR Helms Deep Cavalry charge out of the Keep, and regrouping with Alexanders men.
Allowing them time to escape or to fight with the Templars. :)

Thank you guys again for the help.So today this story ends with your way, but in the reality that i have created these last days.

The Dragons have take control of the left upper deck of the inner castle and soon they managed to take under control the whole upper deck.
The Grand Master of Templars asks from his men to gather in the main yard and when the dragons will break the gate door to make a exodus from the Castle to the side of king's Alexander's army.
e
So, the moment that the Dragons have broken with their ram the great gate door the Templars opened the rear door and make a suprizing attack that left the dragons like statues.

The Lord of Golden Dragon shout to his men to block the drawbridge with their bodies and order his Elite Cavarly to annihilate the Attacking Templars.

When he saw the Grand Master, grab his double axe and attack him.

The Templars have managed to reach the drawbridge but there the enemy soldiers start to fight back so hard that they could not go further.

The Grand Master have substained the final blow from a enemy spear just the time that his double axe had broken the head of the Dragons' Lord horse. All the other Templars lost their life in the next minutes!

King Alexander with a few of his men have managed to save themselves through the Magic Vegetables' Forest.

Ok Guys these are the new additions to Archangels' Castle. The castle is separated in pieces.I tried to connecting some parts for you to get the point but the table is not wide enough.

Photo1 : Outer castle battlements.Main castle's entrance. I have added more decks to the second floor and a brand new deck on the first floor. The first floor has walls with battlements for archers.

Photo2: Inner castle battlements. I have added a new deck on first floor for both sides with doors on the round towers.

Photo3: Inner castle square guard towers.(the second level of wall normally will have battlements for archers but the pieces are still coming from the seller)

Photo4: Inner castle square guard towers decks(you can see the first floor deck access for the archers. The other tower has a longer first floor deck with a prison underneath).

Hello Angelo,

Your castle designs are excellent !!! (And, you are very brave to do your construction in the garden where it is so easy to lose those tiny Steck pieces.)

Usually real castles took advantage of the natural terrain. Castles were often built on a hill or on a mountain top if possible. There are even examples of castles being constructed on the top of "man-made" hills. Using "natural" terrain is one of the great advantages of moving Steck out of the house and into the garden. And, in some of your photos, it appears that you have indeed built your castle on a bit of a rise in the garden.

Your garden castle was superb !!! And, your wonderful story unfolded like the best of the old Hollywood film epics !!! And, with great photos !!!

All in all, a very enjoyable and entertaining presentation. Definitely, two thumbs up !!!

Thank you for sharing your thrilling adventure,
Richard

Thanks for your reply Richard, ;D

Yes you have absolut right about the castles but there were castles that had built in plains to guard passages.
By the way I didn't raise the terrain for one reason only. The siege towers of playmobil are designed for castles with only one level walls and it would be impossible to use them on a two level walls castle built on high terrain.
I have tried to build a moat around the castle but the ground was too loose. So it was difficult to make it deep or to be able to support water in.

Your reply it was an  honor for me and my work. ;D ;D

After a year the battlegrounds of the Archangels' siege has became a groceries garden.Such a glorious battleground among tomatoes, lettuces, ..... etc.So sad!!

(Just writing down my thoughts as i'm looking the garden above!)

Just noticed this thread!
The castle is very nice, I like it; not too big, and a nice design!  :)9
