Hi all :)
I'm not very good at this kind of thing, but here goes:
I am (almost) 34 years old and I come from Malta. I've been into PM since my childhood, but it's only since my 27th birthday - when my parents gave me the 3940 pirate ship - that I've been 'collecting' the stuff. I'm into pirates, romans and knights, and anything to do with armies.
I've lurked around here, as a guest, for some years, and I used to love reading the reviews - now I'm finally a proper member. :P
Looking forward to joining the fray ;D ;D ;D

Welcome from the Netherlands, Bolingbroke.
I hope you will enjoy it here in our little community. At least your themes are very popular with many of us so there should be interesting things to find!

Thanks for the welcome, guys.
Do I feel I'm privileged, because I live in Malta? I guess it has its advantages: prices are somewhat cheaper and the funpark's a 20 minute drive away. But then, we have no DS system that I know of, for example, and we don't get much by way of exclusive sets like you do in the US or in Germany.
I've never been to the factory proper, no. I'd feel a bit silly doing the tour to be honest. It's bad enough already that the salespeople at the fun shop know me as 'the weird guy who collects toys' ;D ;D ;D

Do you get tired of visiting the funpark or shopping playmobil from the stores? given you are in the sea of klickies...?
Somehow I guess I am also labled the "guy who collect toys" in my local stores. Tell you what, close to my office are two stores selling playmobil, the official importer, one to the east and one to the west, within 5-minute walk. It is weird I see the same saleladies in different days. They must be like....oh.....it is him again >:D
Thanks for the welcome, guys.

Hello  and welcome from sunny Arizona!

Thanks for the latest batch of greetings ;D
No, I never get tired, H. I do most of my shopping from the shop at the Fun Park, and since I travel quite frequently, from the PM shop at the Departures area of the Maltese airport. Most toy shops in Malta are small and cramped places - they're not exactly Toys R Us. Choice is often limited, too.
So ...

HIYA Bolingbroke! ;D
Welcome to PlaymoFriends,
I watched this forum for sometime before gathering the money to become a member...
You'll soon realize your mistake...

Hi
I think any collector gets this reaction from time to time. Most of mine comes from private local sales where people are showing me items and I can identify any part and where it goes :hmm:. The usual response is not so much what they say but how they look at me ::)
I guess it makes sense that you do not have a DS as you are a relatively small market.
If you do go to the factory cant you pick up the damaged, misprinted, rejects parts and Klickies. If I remember there is a lady who lives in Malta and all she does is puts klickies together and auctions them off. In a factory of that caliber there must be tons of "industry waste" .

Hi and welcome from Louisiana!
I also have to endure strange looks from people who can't believe I'm buying all these toys for myself! After a while you get used to it, though. I remember when I first got back into collecting as an adult, I would always feel embarassed walking from my car to my apartment carrying playmo. Was always trying to coceal it somehow. Or when I was in a store, I would feel self-conscious looking in the toy section. but now I own it. I freely tell people -- when they ask!
-
I have the same feeling initially, and now I have no concerns over this, and sometimes suggest the kids some cool sets when they are shopping with their parents next to me. I have also been doing inception on my friends' kids.....buying them a lot of playmobil 123 >:D

It's somewhat worse in my case (but it's a long story that's best left for some other time). Just out of curiosity: why are there so many PM fans from the US? Was PM big in the US, in the 70s and 80s, or is it something more recent? I would've though the only toys American children played with were Barbies and GI Joes ;D

Could the reason be PF is an English medium forum???

Smarty pants :)
You're from HK: HK is one of my favourite (if not THE favourite) holiday destinations ever! I was there last year, and I'm counting the days till the next trip. Everything about the place is amazing, really.
Thanks to you too, playmo1989. I look forward to visiting Athens. But Rhodes comes first: I've been wanting to go there for years.
