why the playmobil roller coaster 3980 http://homepage1.nifty.com/TBR/playmobil/PM3980-01.JPG was sold only in japan??
-
Hi,
It was produced under licence by the Japanese firm Epoch in 1989. I do happen to have a Playmobil Epoch catalogue (which includes the rare white suitcase with articlenumber 1000) from 1989, but sadly the rollercoaster is not in there, so that probably means that it was released in late 1989). The parts of the rollercoaster were not original Playmobil, but the figures were and it was an officially licenced product exclusively released in Japan. I am the lucky owner of 2 rollercoasters, one 'misb' and one 'mib'.

Playmoed , if you are inerested to sell the mib or misb roler coaster please PM me. I have thought of a very exciting long term project that will require this .. cheers, :).. i must say i cant see why anyone would sell such a rare set .... .. aw well no harm in asking.... :)
I also wonder if the non playmo items were sold also elsewhere i.e if one could expand this set ......

This is a very rare piece, congratulations Playmoed :o! However, I don't think it looks quite like the Playmobil quality I'd expect, even in a liscenced item. The pieces seem too large and colorful. If this were released now, say as an American exclusive, I don't think it would get much good feedback from the collectors.
Despite it's drawbacks, though, I would like to own one of these sets for collecting's sake ;).

Wow, playmoed, you are one lucky man! If my parents had lived in Japan at the time, I would have asked them to pick one up for me. ;)
If you ever find the need to sell the set...

:) Love the white case, how big is it ?
Wonder what it looks like inside, does it have dividers ?

yes i don't think it would be something impressive if it was released today ,the thing that makes it attractive is that it's hard to find ;)

Guys, I'm sorry to say Playmoed is no longer active in the forum so he won't be able to answer your questions.

I think you're very right..

Well, i disagree.. ;D
If such a set was released today one can assume that it would look much better and reflecting on todays playmobil designs etc . Assuming that this would be the logical case, such a set could look gery impressive especially given the option to expand the roller coaster with additional tracks , higher and steeper with adjustable /add on support pillars etc , one could create a massive rollercoaster with multiple wagons. Goes without saying that such a set should be powered and that then would be quite impressive i reckon . imagine a massive roller coaster with 6-7 wagons going up and down , accelerating etc with raving klickies on it !!!! Superb !!!!
I wonder actually if such powered toy sets exist from other toy manufacturers and therefore if such a a set would constitute a novelty from playmobil !!! For some reson i would love to create such a big massive set and have a photo sotry being attacked by dinos etc

K'nex released an engine powered roller coaster a few years ago with a loop, sound effects and all (the figures in the wagons would litterallly scream) - I got mine at TRU after a Christmas sale in 2003...pretty awesome but all of those pieces are a pain when putting them together...Size wise klickies are not compatible with the coaster's wagons, such a shame.
PM's Japanese roller coaster is very pretty...if i remember well the last (and only) time i saw it on ebay (about 2 years ago i think) it went over 1,500 USD...if it's ever re-released (which is very likely after so long) such a strong investment would hurt, ouch
