Title: Emergency rescue
Post by: flatcat on February 27, 2010, 13:41:27
Hi,
Bored today so I thought that I would try and attempt to make a sort of photo story. I apologise for the rubbishness in advance, as this is my first one, and I am no good at photography 8}

I will be posting it in parts on this same thread to try and make it easier :)

At approximately 7:30 this morning there was a collision between a jeep, a delivery van and a skip truck on a quiet stretch of road called the B1000.

(http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/6434/200907110001.jpg) (http://img716.imageshack.us/i/200907110001.jpg/)

The three vehicles left the road through the crash barrier and rolled down a steep muddy hill with a fast flowing river at the bottom (you will need to use your imagination for this bit)

(http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/6940/200907110002.jpg) (http://img190.imageshack.us/i/200907110002.jpg/)

The only witness to the accident was a skip truck driver who was a small distance behind his colleague, who were delivering skips that morning. He telephoned for help using his mobile phone.

(http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/656/200907110004.jpg) (http://img291.imageshack.us/i/200907110004.jpg/)

The police were the first on the scene, and the truck driver told them all he knew, and they assessed the situation. they radioed in for their specialist quad squad who would be able to reach the wreckage.

The Paramedics were next to arrive

(http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/3073/200907110006.jpg) (http://img269.imageshack.us/i/200907110006.jpg/)

The Quad Squad arrived a minute later and roared off through the gap in the railings

(http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/8238/200907110007.jpg) (http://img716.imageshack.us/i/200907110007.jpg/)

What a sight. The jeep had lost it's wheels, the van had lost it's roof, and the skip truck had rolled all the way down to the river.

(http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2600/200907110008.jpg) (http://img291.imageshack.us/i/200907110008.jpg/)

The 2nd biker didn't stop however, as he lost control of his quad as it went spinning out of control down the slippery, muddy hill.

(http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3023/200907110009.jpg) (http://img716.imageshack.us/i/200907110009.jpg/)

The bike flipped over and he was thrown into the icy water, and was carried away by the fast flow of the water.

The THW boat sqaud were soon alerted and arrived in record time. They were directed where to go by the two police officers

(http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/9180/200907110011.jpg) (http://img716.imageshack.us/i/200907110011.jpg/)

They picked up the two paramedics and took an emergency strecher down with them on the roof of their 4X4

(http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/1130/200907110012.jpg) (http://img710.imageshack.us/i/200907110012.jpg/)

After dropping off the two paramedics at the wreckage site, they continued down the muddy hill.

(http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/190/200907110014.jpg) (http://img63.imageshack.us/i/200907110014.jpg/)

It was at the bottom of the hill where they launched the boat into the river to go in search of the missing Quad Cop, whilst the others helped the crash victims back at the main wreckage site.

(http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/7084/200907110013.jpg) (http://img28.imageshack.us/i/200907110013.jpg/)

Meanwhile back at the main crash site, things aren't looking too good. They have found the van driver though, but thay have been alerted to his dangerous load

(http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/4971/200907110022.jpg) (http://img30.imageshack.us/i/200907110022.jpg/)

The man doesn't look in too good shape, so the Paramedics request that their ambulance is bought down, which the police officer's are more than happy to do

(http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/4440/200907110023.jpg) (http://img51.imageshack.us/i/200907110023.jpg/)

The injured delivery driver is carefully loaded into the back of the ambulance

(http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/4143/200907110024.jpg) (http://img28.imageshack.us/i/200907110024.jpg/)

The jeep driver, a local fisherman, is found lying just a little way from his jeep, so he is too put on a stretcher to be loaded into the ambulance, which has adequate room for 2 patients.

Meanwhile, the boat squad come across the skip truck driver. He is trapped, but the brave THW man leans out to help him out of the roof and into the boat

(http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/9420/200907110016.jpg) (http://img682.imageshack.us/i/200907110016.jpg/)

After motoring down the river for a couple of minutes they soon come across the quad cop in the middle of the river

(http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/5076/200907110017.jpg) (http://img28.imageshack.us/i/200907110017.jpg/)

A life ring is thrown to him, and he gets it around him just in time, as he was about to be swept under again

(http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/7104/200907110018.jpg) (http://img151.imageshack.us/i/200907110018.jpg/)

The quad cop is hauled on board the boat, very heavy from all the water that his clothes have soaked up

(http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/5386/200907110019.jpg) (http://img151.imageshack.us/i/200907110019.jpg/)

The poor man is very cold, and is wrapped in a foil blanket to stop hypothermia.

The boat is hauled back upon the trailer, with everyone safe inside

The small party begin their ascent back up the hill. There is plenty of room inside the 4X4 for everyone and their equipment

(http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/1264/200907110027.jpg) (http://img291.imageshack.us/i/200907110027.jpg/)

Meanwhile the local council turn up and help by delivering porta-loos for the occassion

(http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/9783/200907110025.jpg) (http://img651.imageshack.us/i/200907110025.jpg/)

(http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/9506/200907110026.jpg) (http://img90.imageshack.us/i/200907110026.jpg/)

Closely followed by the ambulance with it's patients safely inside. The chunky off-road tyres on the ambulance help it back up the hill

Both vehicles race to hospital with their patients.

(http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/2056/200907110031.jpg) (http://img90.imageshack.us/i/200907110031.jpg/)

With the fire and ambulance crews on standby, they return to the road, using the Unimog's weight to their advantage.

The wreckage site is now safe and recovery can commence

Winching up the wrecked jeep is easy when using the 4X4's powerful front winch

The story would have been even more detailed, but I was doing it in between showers, which is also why some bits are wet, and some things appear when they shouldn't and not there when they should be ie victims in the crashed vehicles etc (although hopefully you didn't notice that :-[)

That is a very well done story flatcat! I concur with everyone else and the attention to detail was wonderful (I liked the 2nd skip driver reading the newspaper as the police call in equipment), one can really appreciate the amount of Playmobil one needs to do such a detail filled photo-story especially with so many vehicles involved. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I'd completely missed this Damo, only saw it with you mentioning the hill in 'Construction'
(Must have been in my baking week!)
What a great story complete with detail and humour.
Loved the council's part in the proceedings - especially the one cone left at the end - did that end up in your garage too  ;D

Well done :wow:  :wow:
