Title: New Carry-Along @ Target! 5890 5891 5894 58xx
Post by: core on January 20, 2010, 18:41:01
Another couple of new sets to report ...  :)9

They price tag on the shelf mentions a Fire Rescue set, but it was no where to be seen (hence the 58xx).

Made in Malta, fyi
+ $7 each, I'm very surprised! (disregard the $9.99 Pirate set - that's for compact-set 4139)
+ 2 klickys, ready to play out of the box
- less parts count compared to previous cases
- no more clear lid, I don't think there's an internal divider either

We still have quite a couple of un-opened boxes from Christmas, and had to refrain from picking up any more for the moment (esp @ $7).  I'm sure y'all will pick one up and share pics of the contents ... unless I break down and pick up a couple tomorrow  ;D (then again, if they had the Fire Rescue I would have picked it up today!)

I like the old style police motorbike re-used in the police one, it's a shame that these carry case style sets seem to have given up in Europe as far as I have seen (although to be honest I never bought any myself :-[)

Yes, wonderful, I've been wanting that horse armour and those shields and that's a great price. I will check the W Eugene Target on my way home.

I was there last night and they had NOTHING! It is almost embarrassing to look anymore.

Not here yet, they've only half restocked the older sets at this point. It's not unusual for us to be later in getting things. Fred Meyer has carried that type of set in the past as well so hopefully they will end up there as well.

Ditto on Tim, nothing in our Target yet, I was in there two hours ago for a pet brush, but I'll keep checking, I'd like that horse armour too.

Hmm, quick update ... price rung up at $9.99  ???  Will head back tomorrow and check with customer service.  In the meantime here's a quick pic of the contents of a just-opened 5891.

Some other observations (really just nit-picks):

* The cardboard sleeve packaging is noticeably thinner card stock.
* You know that familiar little sticky tape that seals each PM box (with the playmobil print) that exudes this-is-a-carefully-packed-quality-toy?  It's now regular tape (albeit same thickness), and put on quite badly.

Hi Core

Thanks for the update. Is that a big police Klicky sticker that they recommend you put on the case? I did notice the area at our store devoted to the cases but there were none in stock. The price was $9.99 but i figured they had not updated it yet. I do hope that the price is the $7 seeing as there is less stuff .

I nipped along to my local Target and also Fred Meyer on W 11th Ave today, but no carry cases.

Fred Meyer had rearranged their pitifully thin display of PM to take up even less shelf space, and used the freed-up space for Fisher Price toys.

In Target all the big blisters from last week are gone and no new sets out yet.

Thanks, Peter, for the news of the new Target sets.

Hope there are still a few left when I get back to Florida in a couple of weeks ... ;)

Interesting that Zirndorf didn't pay any attention to our comments about the historical inaccuracy of the Spanish conquistador officer's headgear. (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1709.0) Or, if they did read what we wrote, it's obvious that they didn't think that it was very important for Playmobil to be a good teacher for the world's children ...  :P

Thanks again and all the best,
Richard

In the carry-on it's the pirate wearing the old hat, but I think that's OK, Pirates wore anything they got their hands on.

More annoying to me is the constant use of skulls on the pirate hats. Pirates don't advertise until they're about to attack.

fwiw ... the price stickers were 'corrected' to $9.99 today - oh well, it was a little too good to be true I suppose; still not too bad a value at $9.99.  We'll be picking them up in the coming months as gifts as and when needed (pity no girl-oriented themes), great low-cost intro to PM imo.  Our 6-year old gives 'em thumbs up for play value, 9 year old says it's not a good deal because of the lack of internal dividers (compared to the previous case), everything's jumbled up.  They both preferred the police bike compared with the previous police dirt-bike.

I do believe if you come across these new sets at the lower sticker price and it rings up higher, the store will honor the lower sticker price (walk the staff to the shelf to confirm their pricing 'error'  ;))

I have checked three target stores in my area and they don't have these yet.  They still have some 4177 knight carry along though.  Now they did have the 4177 for 7.99 this past fall because I bought 4 of them.  9.99 aint to bad for these.  Got to have the horse armor!

Hi Core

Too bad about the mis-priced item. The $7 was a great bargain and I surely would have bought a lot of them. $10 does not seem like a lot but when you buy 10 each it adds up quick (10X4@$7=$280 or @$10= $400) and is a shocking mis-print. I do hope they put up the wrong price when the stock arrives so at least I can get all they have at the $7  ;) These cases are great party favors and simple presents but I am surprised there are no Girl themed sets this year. I guess we can not invite any girls to the boys parties  just kidding

The two Target stores local to me had these yesterday, but in very small numbers, 2 each of the Dragon knights and Police, and four each of the Pirates sets.

I cleared the shelves of the Dragon Knights, and got one each of the others. They were marked and priced at $9.99

As Core said, the case is less substantial than before, with a solid lid and no interior compartment. They've also inclouded a sticker for you to put on the box if you wish. I never really bought these for the boxes anyway, so i don't mind that cut back.

The contents are reasonable value for $9.99, especially compared to the recent big blister at $6.99 which had less in it, and is totally useless packaging after you've opened it. As this was my first chance to get my hands on the Dragon Knights I was quite happy with the $9.99 price. The rest of the theme is due out in the US in April.

Finally got my hands on two of the knights and one pirate carry case.  They had the police also.  I'm currently collecting the knight theme but the police motorbike was mighty tempting. :D

Did they only have the two Dragon Knight sets? I was in Albany yesterday, about 50 miles north of Eugene, while getting pour car plates, and picked up a couple more but that's all they had. It seems each store gets 2 x red, 2 x blue and 4 x black boxes. The use of red boxes for the knights makes me wonder what color the Fire theme will get now, if anything.

That is exactly what my local store had, picked up 1 knight and 1 police to check them out. Mega Blocks had more shelf space then Playmobil!  ???

The store I went to had 2 knights,2 police, and 4 pirates. I have not been to the other targets I normally frequent but I will go to the other ones today.

Maybe the contents are at a reasonable price, but compared to previous boxes of the kind, the contents are less substantial as well -- which explains it to need no compartments ... :hmm:
