Title: new non-existing pirates
Post by: cachalote on January 20, 2010, 00:09:44
in collector 3 - thank you axel henne  :wow: - in the pages dedicated to the u.s.a. sets, 2 pirates sets are presented for 2009.
their numbers are 5866 and 5867.  :)
there is a logic to this numbers - they fill the gap between the 5865 pirate mini set and the 5868 pirate octopus attack, both available at target and tru (and ebay).  there is also the "new" 5869 schooner (available also at the ofiicial site).  ::)
but these two i have never seen.  8}
can anyone help?  ???
2009 is gone and these sets seem to non-exist outside "collector".  8}

Hi Cachalote  :wave:

I have not seen these around California  :hmm: I like the klickies in them and if they were around I would have gotten them.

well ras, i must say i am a bit fed up with the red & black color scheme that almost all the recent pirates seem to "embrace" but the pirate with the yellow hat in the 5866 set looks cool.  :yup:

I agree, that's a new hat there too.
I haven't seen them at any of the outlets here in Oregon.

Did not see these anywhere either.  I wonder where they did, or might, show up?  I dig the guy rowing the boat, he looks tough. Cachalote- I completely agree about the red color scheme Playmo keeps flogging. ??? Give us a little variety.  If they need a theme, I kinda wish they would make more pirates dressed similiar to the old schooner crew. :prays:

Well they could be doing them in Barbarian Pink...

i think they are trying to tiermann, or at least in barbarian purple.  ;)
i too like the 3740 schooner sailors el jefe.  :)
i would love if playmobil would produce a big 3940-ish royal navy ship filled with those guys.

Hello

Yes the only klicky that I have way too many of is the one similar to the captain in the 5867 set. I also have always disliked the red cannon especially if it is the big bertha. The other Klickies look fine and simple changes would give them unique looks. The second figure in 5867 has some very useful parts

If they would make a new set based on the 3055/3740 and provide us with some of those Klickies, well it would be like getting the park fence in the Victorian theme, the 3526 pumper truck in the Rescue theme, the 3770 Colorado station or a new 3666 for the Knights  :prays:

Now all we have to do is track these 2 sets down  :eh?:

I never saw those sets before either. 5866 would be only the second use of the big rowing boat, and if you don't need more Spanish soldiers, a good way to build up your small craft.

It's a mystery, we have enough eyes in enough countries, you wouldn't think these could have been missed if they have been on sale anywhere, and they look like US sets.

The proportions of some of the stuff in the images seems off. my guess is that they are pre-production images and the sets got canceled or delayed for some reason.

the strange thing about all this is that they are shown in axel's collector as if they were already released - there is even a rarity ranking (2 figures).  8}

I have not seen these either (wish I had). Does Axel list a source for the photo?

i am glad for all your replies.  :wow:
i posted the same question at klickywelt and only one member responded (like all of us he hasn't a clue).  :(
if we consider that klickywelt has 2171 members (we have 279) and that the thread i posted had 298 views (in here it had 122) i think the only possible conclusion is that playmofriends is a great forum.

In fairness to KW, the sets appear to be aimed at the US market, and KW is more European in its membership.

Tim may be right and these are pre-production photos of sets that have yet to hit the shelves, but if so doesn't that make a complete nonsense of the rarity rating of 2? The sets don't exist so they should be ultra-rare.

that's an incredible idea martin. what could be more rare then something that doesn't exist.  8}
when i was a child i always thought of that imagining the elements that didn't appeared at the periodic table.  ::)
some of them were synthesized meanwhile.  :)
maybe the same will happen to these sets.
  :yup:
