Title: new toysRus pirate sets...
Post by: cachalote on August 01, 2009, 22:40:59
just a quick message (i now have a 2 week baby that takes a lot of my time) to let you know that i found 2 new pirate sets at the toysRus website - http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?sr=1&f=Taxonomy%2FTRUS%2F2254197&kw=playmobil&origkw=playmobil&kwCatId=&view=all.
not that they are really exciting - but they are new anyway.  :yup:
there are also other new sets - also without an i.d. number - belonging to other playmofamilies: fairies, knights, a special edition seaplane.  0)
these ones cost 5,99 usd and 19,99 usd.
i promise i will be back soon.

Oh wow.  I'm never going to get caught up.  Here's the list (did I miss any?)

PlaymoDB List - Toys'R'Us USA sets Summer 2009 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=5870,5859,5860,5861,5863,5864,5865,5868,5871,5873;title=Toys%26%2339%3BR%26%2339%3BUs%20USA%20sets%20Summer%202009)

More pics and info appreciated as they become available, as usual.

Love the styling on the plane. Great to see it used again, though I liked the police one just fine.

in a german toysareus shop there is also a new exclusive - the 5009 piraten gefecht set.
a 4444 with a small island and a few "french" soldiers attached.

You've been had there cachalote, that's not a real blister, it's what someone would like in a blister.

Look closer, you'll see the soldiers are just placed under the blister outer cover, but there's no inner tray or leaflet, which appear in all genuine blisters.

Shame because many of us would buy those by the dozen.

i am glad you warned me martin.  :-[
i was just about to criticize playmobil's option of adding a bear hat to a french soldier but you stopped me.  :wow:
this is what comes from not speaking german...  :-[
i hope the 5009 toys.are.us german exclusive is real though...

the log cabin is indeed a beautiful set.
it is one of those sets with a strange "other-world" quality that i love in playmobil.  :yup:
in my "family" - the pirates - this quality seems to be quite gone since the appearence (and disapprearence) of the 4136 superset seeräuberinsel / pirate island in 2007.

I forgot to mention this, but the bearskin hat on a French Soldier from Napoleon's Imperial Guard is quite correct.

Imperial Guard Cavalry

The bearskin was awarded to the British Guards regiments after their defeat of the Imperial Guard at Waterloo. I only know this because I visited the Guards' Museum in Birdcage Walk last week.

To bad that's not a real set. :(

The background is from the blister of the Chinese Mandarin set.

just found some new better images of the 5009 set.  :yup:
i have mixed feelings about this one.  :-\
i hate it when playmobil uses the exactly same set adding some other items to produce a "new" set with a "new" number.  >:(
i bought the 4444 original boat and have a particular liking for it - sometimes i like to think that i was the one who was responsible for its existence (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1666.0).  :-[
at first i decided not to buy the 5009...  :yup:
but then, it comes with 2 different pirates and it has some french soldiers and maybe i could mix the 2 sets "crowding" the dinghy - i love a crowded set - and now i see myself wanting it, betraying my moral dislike for "repeated" sets...  8}

It does look like it has a new color scheme and a metal anchor this time around  :lens:

you are quite right ras, thank you.  :wow:
i must confess i hadn't noticed all the differences.  :-[
black hull and green deck instead of dark brown and cream.
black mast instead of dark brown.
grey cleats instead of yellow ones.
grey "pomegranates" decór in the stern instead of yellow.
a "world" of differences between the 2 sets.  :yup:
now i am sure ... i really must have it.  ;D

I ended up buying four :-[ of the pirate dinghies when they were on sale at Target for around $12.99.  I put new tan spars and white intact square sails on them.  I intend to use them as pirate ships and with my Romans and Egyptians as merchant or even troop ships.

I don't like the black hull, green deck, and silver hardware as much as the brown, tan, and gold in the original iteration, but I'm glad Playmobil has given us some new color choices.  I do think the silver anchor is an improvement, especially if it's metal.  Also, I believe this is the first time we've seen that rock formation in brown; previously it was in dark grey and light grey, I think.  It's good to get some more of the French soldiers and I'm sure the kids will like the giant squid and the shark.  I personally won't be purchasing this set, but if it sells for $29.99 or even $39.99, it will be a pretty good buy.

Now that Playmobil has filled out its line with the smaller vessels (e.g. this dinghy and the new larger rowboat), I'm hoping we get a giant $200 three masted man of war.

actually hobbes, the info is in the 9th post.  :yup:
from what i could translate from klickywelt, this set was first seen for sale as an "exclusive" set al zirndorf's playmobil funpark. 39,99 euros.  :(
also as an "exclusive" another member saw them in a german toys'r us shop. the price rose to 59,99 euros there.  >:(

like justindo, i also look forward to a 3 masted vessel.  :yup:
... but with string rigging, fabric sails, a metal anchor, a non-fischer-price color scheme and loads of extras.  ;D

Yeah I saw the post about toysrus, was wondering if they sold the set anywere else. Ah well, maybe the set will make its way to the rest of Europe some day ;)

I agree with all of this, although for ease of assembly I wouldn't mind fewer strings if it didn't look too bad.

:yup: on ebay i found an american version of the 5009 re-numbered 5881  and re-named pirates super set playset.
it looks the same.
??? could this be the version that will come out for all the stores?

... more pictures.
including (see "e") a strange picture taken underwater showing the underside of the hull.

:hmm: these elusive sets (5009 and now 5881) that nobody knows what they are - toys r' us exclusives, zirndorf exclusives, usa exclusives - now seem to be available also in brasil - https://www.dotstore.com.br/mftoys/produto/817814/5881---Playmobil---Linha-Pirata---Playset-dos-Piratas.
:yup: maybe gustavo can help us with more information.
8} i guess this is the first time i see a set with such a confusion surrounding its sale.
8} on usa ebay they are described as very hard to find, soldout (although there are only 2 adds and they can't be found on sale anywhere else).
8} in europe they seem to cost 39,99 euros in zirndorf funpark and 59,99 in agerman toys r' us store.
:wow: at least in brasil it is announced as a new "lançamento" (release).
 :o what a mess...

here's a slightly better picture of this set seen from the bottom of the sea.
since i was a child and started sailing i have been fascinated for diving to see how the boats look when seen from under their hulls.
i remember holding my breath forever looking also at the clouds, the sun and the people that were still in the boat, distorted by the water "ceiling".
i bet whoever in geobra decided to produce this image has the same fascination as i have.
well done "brother".  :yup:  :wow:

Cachalote I too like this image as it reminds me of some thing also . When I used to go abalone diving you are in water about 10-15 feet deep and this just happens to be where surfers are also . When you need to come up for air we used to look up to make sure we did not get run over and hit by the skeg or have the nose of the board which is pointed ram into us. It was a great sight to see them carve across the waves from the underside
