Title: introduce myself
Post by: arab warrior on December 14, 2005, 09:33:20
Hi everybody,

Someone from this friendly looking site made me aware of it's existence, and because i've never heard of it i decided to check it out.
I must say it looks very nice and i hope that i can make some new "playmofriends" with whom i can share information about our beloved toy.

I am 36, am married and have a 4 year old son and i've been collecting since a few years now.
My interests are knights, pirates, western and indians.
Also the old arabic theme i find very attractive.

Well, enough about me, but if there are some of you who would like to know more, just ask me.

Hi Arab Warrior, and welcome from North Yokshire in the UK.  Nice to see you here, and I'm sure you'll like it.  The Arab theme is way before my time with Playmobil, but what I have seen of it is very attractive.  I know as a toy soldier fan in my early teens the William Britains Arabs were a favourite of mine.

Now a question - whereabouts are you?

 welcome to PlaymoFriends.

Hello, Arab Warrior ...

And, a BIG welcome from sunny Florida!

To repeat playmofire's question ... "whereabouts are you?"

And ... To repeat playmofire once again ... I too loved WBritains Arabs as a youngster ...

This was one of the WBritains Arab sets, but my favourite was their "Arabs of the Desert" with camels and palm trees.

So when Playmobil introduced their Arab set-3415 ... It quickly became one of my very favourite Playmobil sets of all time!

Very happy that you joined us and all the best,
Richard

Whereabouts am i?

I live in the Netherlands, you know that stubborn little country wich seems to have their own set of rules.

I don't know that toy; WBritains but it looks interesting, is there a site where i can find anything about it?
And that set 3415!! Isn't it special i just traded the carpet with someone and didn't remember how it looked like, it's made of a thick plastic sheet with a sticker on top.

Thank you all for the welcome

Hi Arab Warrior, and Welcome!

I have an almost 4 year-old that sometimes lets me play with his castles and pirates ;)

I LOVE that set, Richard ... I have a feeling that one's going to be a tad out of my reach, if I ever find it on ebay ;)

A warm welcome from Germany Arab Warrior, I too am interested in these themes.  I have a dream of making scenes from the 1001 nights using Playmo Arabs and the fairyland castle.

Guarrenzino

PS  A nice set Richard. Good old Britains :D

Hello Arab Warrior from the US

The Arabs are a hypnotic theme.
Several of us got into them sideways by also being fans of the Safari theme.  Collectobil.com has grouped the arabs into the Safari theme, and viola, those who like the Safar theme, fall for the Arab theme, as well.

I only wish I could get the set that Richard has displayed.
I can dream, and keep an eye on Ebay   ;)

If you can stick to your few chosen themes I congratualte you.
Unfortunately, places like this end up showing the richness of the other themes, we swore to never collect.  And the addiction starts.

Welcome, hope you like it here,
Meg

(Rob and I have done a number of good trades over the past few months. And I am grateful to him for finding me a few obscure parts!  :))

Cheers,

Ah well if your a friend of Red's then...Welcome!  ;D ;D ;D

I'm way out West in Washington State in America...and like Meg and others, I dream of the Arabian sets (are they also called Bedouins?) I've bid on a few on ebay but they prices go wild on those sets. But I'm inching my way there.

Welcome to Playmofriends and I hope you have lots of fun here! :)

Bedouin is a term for an Arabic nomad, or so I believe

Welcome from Oregon US!
I love those sets but all I have is a camel.
Perhaps one day...

Tim,
I would have been surprised if you did NOT have a camel.

I never knew you always like the nomads.
More competition  :o

Just like you i like to trade very much, because in my opinion it's the best way to complete your collection there is.

Bedouin is a term for an Arabic nomad, or so I believe
And meg, you're right about that, never understood why Playmobil didn't make a tent for the Bedouins, they must sleep somewhere too.

I also have the old yellow safari jeep with trailer and try to be very careful with it, but my son also loves it of course.
Now i just need the orange tent 3413 and my expedition is complete.

Hi Rob,

Welcome to the forum.
Nice to see you taking an active role already! :D

Hope you didn't feel too scrutinised by people asking you for your location. Everyone is just naturally very curious to learn more about new members and knowing your approximate location can help us to help you in the future.  ;D

Psst.... Playmofire and Richard, if you want to find out a member's location you only need to click on their name and read the summary. The only time a location is not present is on the profiles of members who have not edited their details by adding an avatar or other stuff. I made this field mandatory (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=106.15#msg707) so we could all know at least one thing about each member.
;)

Welcome Rob!

In a box in my mom's garage there are some Playmobil Arabs from Antex (I believe - we bought them in Argentina, and I do not remember if they are Antex or "pure" Playmobil). I am not sure exactly what is there as they belong to my brother. I am currently negotiating to try to get my hand son them - but my brother and I, well let's just say we don't exactly get along as brothers should. :(

BUt I do have some old Timpo Arabs and French Foreign Legion from their swoppets line - Have you ever seen these (http://www.angelfire.com/biz/toysoldierhq/ztimpomffl.jpg) or these (http://www.die-cast-toys.com/plastic-soldiers/swoppets/arabcamel.jpg)?

Hi Henry,

Me and my brother didn't get along either as kids as well.
I solved the problem about the playmobil we shared together by just picking everything up from the attic and took it home.

Don't know those figures you showed me, only figures i know from that sort of toy are knights, but thanks for the pictures.
It seems that light blue is appropriate for the Bedouins.

Hello, Arab Warrior ...

I thought that you might enjoy seeing this foto that was also on the Playmobil set 3415 box.

You know, I'm going to have to dig out my grandfather's 'toy soldiers' ... I think those might have been part of his set.

If you find them, Mal, you might want to post a photo in the PFZ  ...

There are several toy soldier enthusiasts in the forum who may be able to help you identify your grandfather's toy soldiers. They may even be able give you an idea of what they might be worth.

All the best,
Richard

Hi from Malta!

I live in the Netherlands, you know that stubborn little country wich seems to have their own set of rules.
Every country seems to have its own set of rules. Holland is a great country!

Arabs... i'm 'working' on that right now. My Maltese knights biggest enemies were the turks, so making a few small armies. There's some good parts for customising, yet not easy to come by.
