Developed from a stretch of boredom while sitting at my work bench staring at a pile of parts, this is my attempt at 2 Playmobil City Fire Department custom gasoline powered rescue demolition/salvage circular saws. They’re built based on the red, yellow, & grey chain saw series.
I demanded from myself to make the project able to be returned to their original form of a chain saw if so desired in the future. After the disassembly of the chain saws, the ideas came into focus of what procedures had to be done.
1. The squared blade bar needed to accept a Playmobil hydrant plug being named the “pos-E-loc cutting wheel retainer”, with the cutting wheel actually being able to be exchanged like in real life. That was accomplished.
2. The cutting wheel needed to be thick enough to be handled by Playmobil figures for realism purposes. That was accomplished.
3. There had to be a spark shield designed to protect figures from debris danger. That was accomplished.
4. The custom saws can be quickly refitted with its original chain bar as demanded in the design, & that was accomplished.
The design is 50% actual Playmobil parts. The semi circular spark shield is a left over helmet face shield modified to fit as needed. The hydrant plug is its original form. The blade bar is a custom design, & the thick round cut off blade is a dremel tool grinding wheel that I've never had a use for, with a modified enlarged center.
I hope you enjoy my efforts in this project!
Thank you, Bill

Interesting use of parts there Bill.
-
I just noticed the Bourke's eye shields on the brown haired firefighter's helmet, how did you accomplish these?
-
That's awesome, Bill. Very Detailed. Great work! And I like the Bourke shields on the helmet. If I had to guess, would those be some spare playmobil goggles by any chance?

Cool tools. Although I'm more impressed by the sole attached moustache and the eyes shield ... :D

Great work, Bill.

Very nice, Bill :wow:
Well done!

That moustache is really clever too, Bill.
-
bill, i must admit, the moustache is my favorite part as well, probably because i do not know enough about the equipment to appreciate the accuracy and detail.

Bill, What did you use for the blade on these saws?
I'm assuming it is a grinding blade for a dremel tool but I went to Home Depot I couldn't find something this size...

Hi Ben!
From what I can see in my old 11/99 edition Dremel tool accessory catalog, the part number is 425. It is known as an Emory impregnated polishing wheel. You may have to go to a hobby shop or exclusive Dremel dealer, or contact Dremel direct @ 1-800-437-3635, or http//www.dremel.com! This contact info is on the rear cover of my 1999 edition catalog. You will need to drill out the center of the disc to fit the hydrant plug. These disc's are semi flexible, so they are easy to drill.

Great job Bill, so now you are kitbashing eh? It gets easier doesn't it? :yup: Your wanting to create new items that can be returned to stock is a real test, but you are certainly up to the task! Very nice work.

I guess you can say that Gepetto :-[! I've finally surrendered a little! I'm no longer a Playmobil purist any more! The problem with customizing in this manner is, I'm the only one who knows how, & what something is customized, & where the original parts are to return the items back to their original form! The other mystery will be all of the eBay job lots of hundreds, if not thousands of individual items added that were not totally complete with all of the little accessories, etc. or DS parts projects used to enhance a photo story or display, for example, a coffee maker with coffee pot, & cups added to a fire station interior photo story, someone will say, where did that come from ???! So, if something happens to me the secrets go with me >:D!

Thank you to anyone for the positive feedback regarding these projects, it's appreciated very much!

Hello Bill,
Apologies for my delay in replying to your post. I am sure the rest of Playmofriends will forgive me for bumping an old thread to compliment you on your work. I am really impressed with your circular saw Bill, especially how you have been able to retain certain features of the chainsaw so that it can be returned back to its original form if needed. You have done this in such a clever way you can't even tell. I also like the detachable disc, something that I am still trying to perfect with mine.

Thanks Tim! From yours, & others encouragement, I am getting into more projects! I have had good success with the Dremel tool polishing wheel number 425 for the cutting saw blade wheel to fulfill my design requirements as outlined in my topic description. If you see any of my ideas you can use, feel free to use them at will! We have many members in our midst now that have valuable knowledge of our rescue theme, & if we share ideas with each other willingly, items will only get better!
Best Wishes,
Bill

ryan :blackhair:
No, I don't mind Ryan. All I ask is when introducing your design you give a small acknowledgement to where the original idea came from :)9!

I understand completely! It's my favorite too, but the blue & red one is the one I'd like to see up close, however it's only seen in Europe in the THW sets :-\.
You will need to heat the spark shield (30098940 helmet face shield), with a hair dryer to spread it apart to fit the Dremel 409 blade. You will need to glue 2 of the 409 cutting blades together to make them strong enough not to shatter. You will need to enlarge the 409 disc hole to fit the (30099130 red hydrant plug).
