Title: Problems & solutions on Spanish hats
Post by: Gustavo on April 04, 2009, 13:34:04
Hello, pfs!

Many of you heard of my complaints about the Capitán's hat of 4294 "Pirates" set (attached). (It might even be boring to some of you ...)

Anyway, when I find a problem, I like to search for solving it, even if I can't ... (I'm not a "hammer" customizer ... I like to customize only with existing parts, that's my style. I admire a lot the works of some playmofriends' "hammers" (&/or hands? ::) ) here, it's only not my style, but it's a wonderful thing, that has given us many wonderful and even quite (and truly, to me) artistic works. I don't envy them, I like my own style, but I'm honoured to have a sit at their side, in this forum! :yup: )

So, here I'll propose what I thought as solutions to the Capitán's hat, that is yet to be done, as well as with what has already been done.

As well as raise again the discussion on History vs/& Fantasy in "our" beloved .. toy, from a different point of view.

Gustavo said he was talking about the black one, so that would be the one in the middle.

These two klickys in the attached blister show how "Pirates" can be a hybrid concept. To me, they match well with the Spanish conquistadores ... as long as you change their hats.

Note that they are .. fine (XVIIIth century) pirates (more like XVIIth century ... like in Pirates of the Caribbean), but, with a change of hats, they can be easily (and beautifully) converted into "Spanish" (or any nation's XVIth century) mercenaries ...

What change of hats? The red klicky we might think about some possible hats. Possibly the same problem of the Spanish capitán: there hasn't been designed the proper hat yet, which would be interesting to be a big round one, like the one of PotC's Barbossa ... But we have some hats in the playmoworld, and I'll show a couple of them. / The blue klicky might work fine with a dark blue version of the hat proposed above, for a first solution of the capitán, which we can see in the attached set's servants ...
