I was working on some Playmobil projects, such as custom Playmo fire trucks, dismantling Klicky's to switch body parts, & then it hit me :o! I remembered a film I used to watch with my children, & now my grandchildren, & I've found myself in a peculiar place :hmm:. The movie is Toy Story,.....& yes, I feel like I've become the horrible child named Sid that sadistically created, destroyed, or "customized" his poor helpless toys! OH NO!...what have I become! I used to be a Playmobil purist, but I'm starting to subcomb to the lure of the horrible customization addictions that I have avoided for so long :0! Please keep in mind that I've not attempted to do anything as radical, & amazing as some very experienced people have accomplished here, Tim_W, Fire Chief, & Playmofire, to name just a few, but it could happen :omg:! I'm finding myself not happy with the original figures or vehicles saying to myself, oh it just needs that head instead of this one, or these wheels would look so much better on that truck than those originals, or this decal from that set would be so much better here,....then the never ending calls to the DS department, the on going parts lists on MS Word on my computer, marking the calender for approximate DS restock dates, increasing inventory of commonly stocked parts because you don't want to run out of something delaying a project,....running out of space :-[! Is there any one else out there that has recently crossed the thresh hold of from good 0) to bad >:D? Please come forward, & admit your crimes, because the Spanish Inquisition has begun :evilplan:!

I don't think you truly qualify as a "Sid" unless you're strapping your Klickys to rockets, burning them with magnifying glasses, or otherwise destroying them.
Everyone who has acquired second-hand Klickys probably has a number of "unwanted" figures. For example I have received figures with chewed heads or limbs or otherwise damaged looks that won't get into my proper collection.
What does one do with these poor victims? Sometimes I disassemble them and add the parts to buckets of bits, ready to be reassembled into new figures when required. Some I've laid aside until I can think of a use for them.

I think a defining element of a "Sid" is 'intent', to customize is to appreciate the base on which you build and to seek to bring out its full potential. As is usually the case, if you do not start with a quality material you will not end up with a quality result, Playmobil provides a perfect base on which to build and if approached with respect the resulting customizations will only honor the original, so fear not to wade into these waters, they will cleanse your soul of doubts (about what might have been) and as your skills grow so to will your horizons!! Onward, ever onward!! :D :D

A first step, Bill, is to do customs that you can undo. Changing heads, arms and bodies fall into this category. Even some fairly major stuff can be undone, for example where parts have been added but the glueing has been done with two part epoxy resin. I think with care I could even undo major customs such as the RW1 and reassemble at least the 3880 it's based on. So have a go but start gently and then plunge in when you feel ready.

The theme of this topic reminded me of an old but funny photostory in which David Hamer satirised Richard's fondness for extreme customizing techniques. Some of you will have already seen this before...
The von Richardstein Affair (http://www.gardenwargaming.com/howto/richardstein/01.html)
I have several boxes of disassembled parts which will probably never get used. I can't say it really bothers me.
I guess I'm becoming too cold-hearted towards my poor klickies, because I usually view them in terms of what their individual parts could be used for instead of appreciating them in their original form. >:D :P

Oh, the shame of it all :0! To have become so distant from your once beloved Klicky's original being, to be able to dismember, switch heads, & body parts if you will, like a Dr. Frankenstein ! And worse cut, glue, lengthen, shorten precious Playmobil vehicles :'(!

One thing I forgot to mention, Bill - never forget Playmobil is made to play with. It's very easy to end up customising and customising and customising and not get any fun playing with them!

I came across this topic while searching for something else and just had to revive it! Hilarious!   We talk about Sid all the time, because Chris was rather a Sid when he was little.
Anyway, to answer the original question, yes I do feel a bit cruel when popping heads off klickys. Oddly enough, I feel even worse about popping heads off the kids than I do adults! Especially using the rubber band method, because I feel I'm strangling them to death. :( And I have a big box of unused body parts that looks very gruesome. :-\ But in the end, the klicks usually look very nice in their new "outfits" when the ordeal is over, so hopefully they don't mind too much.

I feel bad enough breaking up families. I want to keep a colt, whose parents I'm selling, and it makes me kind of sad... though I do have some klickies in rough shape, so I'm planning on dismembering them to make them "new" again if/when I find the right parts.

Interesting thread, never came across it before...
I have a few pics that can turn you blood cold... I am a bit hesitant to upload them because the cruelty I show towards klickies is so great and unbearable for most of us here... But the end justifies the means and slowly all my disassambled klickies are build into new ones, so I don't feel bad at all about it....

Its only plastic !!!
( told by someopne who cant bear the idea of breaking a klikcy apart even temporarily and still feels bad for shooting and buring a hadful of old lyra klickies back in the 80s - shooting with a pellet gun this is ...) poor klikcies
dont post those pics Sir Wolf :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
;D ;D ;D

As long as we're none of us laughing manically and deliberately creating horrible monsters or blowing figures up I think we're alright we all know what we want to achieve and if we can achieve it without damging a toy Playmobil or otherwise we should not feel to bad about it besides sometimes cutsomisation is the best way to learn how to repair or the only potin to give old broken toys life :) ;).
-
Exept for the figures, some only changed haircuts for me to create variation.
I never was able to take them apart, and am rather hesitant to try it since I wouldnt want to damage any of my little friends, not even the old ones. Makes me feel a bit sad about some of you speaking of unwanted clickies though. :( Poor fellows cant help it if geobra gives them an odd color shoes, or a weird model pants.
Might make clickies think twice about making a fasion statement.

I don't feel bad disassembling klickies because I know I'm going to make them whole again eventually.
However when I had to tie up Sam (my 2 foot pirate) to turn him into Gulliver, I felt really guilty and apologised to him and tried to explain that it was only for a few days :-[
I think he understood because he smiled at me ;D

MY thoughts exactly when i get more troops for Emperor ISeroth, i am 100% certain he is smiling at me and saying thanks for building him a bigger army etc etc .
An ex cellent point Queen !!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

The soldiers of Krull might complain about there not being enough female clickies around though.
Makes me wonder about the ratio between male and female clickies in krull. Krull women must feel very loved. :)
And I am sure Gulliver was doing just fine, he had plenty of little friends around him to keep him company after all. ;)

I came across this topic while searching for something else and just had to revive it!
I'm glad you did, otherwise I'd never have noticed it :) I am just on the cusp of turning from being a fantatical 'it must be kept in its original condition (and sometimes even mint in box lol)' to 'ooh! I wonder if I can paint this and make a medieval peasant?' I finished my first paint job last week and just can't stop looking at my 'new' klicky! The sad thing is, I'm now wondering how to shorten some roof pieces to finish a project I've started - saw them? sand them? shave them with a stanley knife?.... yep, think I'm on that slippery slope!
I don't think I could ever do it with any of my boxed sets, but with 'extras' from E-bay or DS, I might risk giving some more drastic customisations a go ;D

It depends on how much you need to take off. For larger amounts a small fine toothed saw is what I would use. For small adjustments a rasp can work nicely.

Oops! Sorry.. somehow I missed this response until now :-[ And it's probably a matter of a few mm to get the roof to butt up against a wall. I still haven't bitten the bullet and done it yet, but I'll probably go with the sanding option - thanks for the advice, Tim! :D
