Title: Playmo addiction in your everyday life ?

My Friend Ren told me that being a Collector in Malta could be quite a lonely thing at times and I told him that if People are collecting coins, stamps, miniature railways or cars, butterflies, dolls, etc. why couldn't we enjoy collecting Playmobil ?

I would be very interested to hear about your experience of being a Playmo Collector in your adult life - though I know that most of us have never really grown up and that is for the best, I think.

As far as I am concerned, I manage a large Holiday Inn and it brings its daily strings of issues, worries and crisis that need to be promptly dealt with.

Saying that you take home with you the stress of your working environment was not a vain word until I learned to disconnect only a few years ago, first with music - anything from Motown to Mozart - and then with the rediscovery of this Playmobil Victorian Theme that I loved so much 20 years ago. I am tremendously enjoying customizing it with accessories and it is great fun.

It took me more than 2 years of research on the great variety of accessories, the Victorian Era on which I now know quite a lot, and finally my spontaneous listing of 13 auctions on Ebay primarily made to inspire fellow Victorian House Owners and buy new items such as the elusive fence or the delivery truck,etc. As you knowby now, it took me by storm with a totally unexpected international interest and response. I sincerly never would have guessed in my wildest dreams that a hobby of mine would have people fighting over !!!

Of course and thanks to Indianna, I was invited to join this site and this may sound dull, but I enjoy being part of a community that share the same interests and passion.

Soon it turned into something I enjoyed more and more and it replaced many of the other vises I had . While I searched for additional pieces i was able to find a forum of fellow collectors . Then I found this forum of truly great friends of Playmobil . Through the journey I have realized that the more I searched and was a part of this unique bunch of fans the more i realized i was not alone . I have now discovered to my South aprox. 50 miles a wonderful hospital collector, to my East aprox. 50 miles a new enthusiastic roman collector and to my South East aprox. 50 miles the Mo Freaky gang . I would have never have know and I may still be pleasantly surprised how many collectors are so close to me if it were not for being a part of fan based forums .

I guess you never know if you are alone or not untill you start looking .

I too had many vises over the years that were harmful to my health :-[, but at least I can share this addition with others, & not harm anyone @ the same time :)9!

I'm an only son, so, from 8, 9 years old, I got used to the idea that I was gonna have no brothers or sisters, and that I'd be alone, all right.

But that's not it only. I like the being different thing. I always were different. Not in appearence (oh, no: hate that!), but in mentality.

I HATED when The Lord of the Rings went to the cinema, because, until then, Ron T. was about little known, as an author, and people who had read his books were a clan apart, specially in non-English-speaking countries, no matter it had been translated, it was only one more book, and not that famous.

My playmo' life happens to be kind of lonely, but it isn't something I hide. One of my coworkers is about to come back into playmobil because of my influence ;D, I'm proud of it. And one of my friends came home with his wife, visit my parents (who had invited them to a Sunday lunch, so as to toast the marriage -- I was one of the bestmen), and one thing I HAD to do was to show them my klickys 8} ...

I'm a little afraid of my cousin's daughter, though ... Because of her, I put a lock in my playmobil place. She's beginning to walk and open doors :o And I have no kids ... I don't know what it's about. (A friend of mine keeps saying that I should see to have the klickys I gave my cousins back, but NO: it's theirs, and I like and respect it. But mine are mine, now ...)--

I do not feel the need to explain and don't, it is a private pleasure I share with others who understand. I have a circus band standing on my computer and it gives me joy to see them there and that is enough for me.

I have a row of assorted knights with their feet blu-tacked to the top of my PC monitor. These guys are the odd fellows, the mis-fits who have no alliegance except to themselves and their families. Every time I look at them they give me pleasure.

I agree with what you and others have said - Playmo appreciation is a lovely addiction that soothes the soul. :yup:

I too felt my habit was somewhat unique but 5 years ago (almost to the day) i joined a fan-site and started to realise that I was not the only Playmo collector in the world after all. And I must say that day was a turning point in my attitude towards my collection. I was open with my family as they too have their collections (mum and aunt have dollhouses, dad has trains and grandad and cousin have airfix kits) so they understood...but my friends did not know. Now I know I am not alone though, I have told my friends and colleagues and now I have a whole room full of Playmo boxes I have even shown people round...and my friends have been amazed. Their faces are like those of kids at Christmas when they see all the presents under the tree...and I can see that they are dying to get their hands on the contents of the box. They then tell me of the Playmo that they had as kids and something inside them sparks up.

As for stress-relief, I find there is nothing better after a tiring shift than to go into my Playmo room and shut the door behind me. And the best remedy for a rubbish day at work is to come home to find the postman has delivered a nice shiny new box of Playmobil. So, until I retire in 30 years, I expect I will still be collecting...besides, I'll need to keep earning good money as I'll be needing a bigger Playmoroom soon!! 8}

Strangely enough, I hardly ever am asked about the why I collect. Most of the time when I tell people that I collect Playmobil, they either start about themselves having been more of a Lego-child or they start how they loved the stuff as a child themselves.

As to sharing it with others; my sister's a collector too, allthough she's got a different view on the how and why. But we do share out spoils.

Besides, when there's a world wide web you're never far from friends with the same passion :love:
