Title: Ahaar, show me the pirates!
Post by: Martin Milner on July 04, 2008, 15:09:11
The new Pirate sets have been showing on Playmobil UK's site for a month now, and due for release in July.

Here we are in July.

So where's my *&%$^ Pirates?????

I was planning to go out this weekend and splurge £75 or so on the new sets, but still no confirmation from the website that they're available in the shops.

TRU's UK website has them, but can I trust TRU? It's a 10 mile round trip on my bike to get to my nearest TRU, and that's a lonely slog home if it turns out the sets aren't in stock yet.

I was just thinking this myself. I have just been to Playmobil.com to place my order and it still won't let me, even though the sets are there and it is JULY. Usually they don't even put the sets on the UK site until you can order  >:(

What would be the fun in that?

Ask why you can't order at their website yet. Of course it is no help regarding the stocks of the toy shops.

But that would be NO FUN.

Anyway, they're closed one for the weekend. So Nyaah.

You gotta go by taxicab, Martin.  We PM collectors already have a bad reputation as people whose primary form of transport is a bike.*

* This poor joke may only make sense in the USA outside New York or Chicago--the ultimate motif of social failure is the guy who doesn't own a car and goes everywhere on a rusted bike.

But, seriously, I know what you mean--we have a Target about five miles away that I once biked to for Playmobil.  It turned out to be a hell-ride (rotten sidewalks and busy street) and when I got there Target had empty shelves.

On the brightside, I breezed through a Target today and found a clearance on Specials, US$1.38 each.  What am I going to do now with six surfers and four princesses with unicorns?

I'll find something!

Timmy, perhaps you should ask one of the princesses ...  :klickywink:

Martin- why cant you just call the store and ask for the set #'s they have . In the US most people who ride bikes actually are trying to have a less footprint on earth . Even biking uses a lot of energy, wear and tear on you, and the bike - so a simple tele call will save a lot of resources .

Richard- isn't that a parents night mare . their young daughter running away with a beach bum, or worse 2.

Tim- that motif is now becoming the way of the future . You will realize this when petrol is $10/gal.

Truth is I just hate using telephones - unless I'm wearing my tinfoil beanie to stop "them" messing with my brain.

I got along to TRU on my bike and picked up most of the smaller new Pirate sets, and a couple of doubles. I left the big lighthouse on the shelf, mostly because it was just too big to carry home on my bike, and partly because TRU didn't have any of the new crop of Specials, so when they are available from Playmobil UK, I'll add a few to the lighthouse and save the postage.

As for wear and tear on the bike, I got a puncture when I was nearly home 8-(

My cycling is not really to save gas or reduce my carbon footprint, it's just my way of life. I've been living in Ealing almost all my life, and cycling for life-7 years.

In '73 when I was seven, there was a major petrol crisis and rising fuel costs, so I started cycling to school every day (my mother no longer running the family's 2nd car), and I haven't been without a bicycle since.

I had a second-hand car for about 5-6 years, and enjoyed using it to escape into the countryside at weekends, but didn't use it on a daily basis, and eventually it got too expensive to keep fixing, so I reverted to using my legs.

I'm glad that you found the sets :)

A car is wonderful to have if you can afford it but if your driving needs aren't big then a bicycle is way better. I have a scooter because it's cheaper compared with a car, both the price for the vehicle itself and the fuel it uses - and I need the freedom it gives to make longer trips  :)9

Hi Ras

I was just joking.  I hate driving.  Everytime I hop behind a wheel it is a statistical liklihood I will be involved in a major crash-up.

Bike ways in St Charles are crud though--but getting better with new roads.  Biking around here requires daredevils (or cranks) to vie with 55 MPH traffic.

When I lived in Livermore CA for a summer my coworkers were amazed I traveled everywhere on bike or mass-transit.  I could actually get to downtown San Fran faster than them if I made all the connections at the right time.

Out here in the midwest, though, you'd have to be a masochist to do the bus system.  Our metrolink follows a single artery and isn't an option unless you work near one of its stops.

The "Green Dream" hits some hard realities out here.

The biggest joke is the picture you, richard and martin made of the ideological playmobil collector.

He wears a tinfoil hat , paranoid that the " them " are going to get him, he rides a rusty old beaten up bike searching in vain for that new blue box at TRU hoping to hook up with a princess and ride away on her unicorn
