Hi everyone! :)
Finally managed to finish the final touches to my Maltese display! The scene would be a typical 16th Century Port in Malta.
I'm not a very keen user of paint, and non-playmo parts, but unfortunately i had to do so in this display due to the lack of existing parts, height of buildings etc. I have however done my best to use as much playmobil parts as possible and the good eye will spot anything from horse heads to baby cots, from lions to euro notes, so keep looking. All you need is imagination.
You can see it with comments here:

loved it.
:wow:
the pope's portrait was an incredible touch.
amazing.
thank you for sharing.
:)
-
Absolutely great!!! :o
My favourites are the Chapel, Sacristy, Madonna -- such lovely detailed well worked out (and for sure the Portrait of a Pope  fantastic)
Also the pic "Pilgrim's Ship" which has a very nice view with the water/waves and the dolphins.
(Just would be curious how a wide angle view of the setup would be)

Hello, Sir Brian ...
IMO ... this is the best that you have ever done!
My favourite is your photo of the dungeon ... (Great picture, Brian!)
My second favourite is your photo through the ship's window ... Excellent!
Now for the questions ... How did you make the "watchtower" and where did all the buildings come from?
And, one request ... Would you please share a larger photo with us of your army?
Thanks for a splendid presentation, Brian!
All the best,
Richard

WOW Brian!!!!! Simply amazing. Excellent work. Love it!
-
Amazing stuff Brian. Love the lions with shields :)
-
Great work, Brian. It really is beyond description how you've captured the feel and atmosphere of Malta. Knowing Malta, it's like being there.
-
Totally bowled over by the amount of detail and the creativity you have shown in your dioramas. :wow:
It's not only a feast for the eyes, it's also fun to study the pictures more closely and to try to work out what is made out of what.
Thank you for taking us on a tour of 16th century Malta. :)9
-
Hi Brian,
Catherine & myself were really impressed by the result of your creativity. Last year you were still at the beginning of this initiative and look now :wow:
I even took a tour through the pictures we made of Mdina, in order to see if we recognised some of your buildings.
My favorites are the fountain and the fishing boat
Hope to come back to Malta next year ???
Cheers,
DD & Miss DD ;)

That is a truly magnificent effort! The German medieval town posted a while back is the only thing that comes anywhere close to this in my view.
The best bit is the portrait of the Klicky Pope! Lovely little detail!

Hi!
Thanks for all the compliments.... ;D and sorry for the late reply. Just being too busy! :(
Now for the questions ... How did you make the "watchtower" and where did all the buildings come from?
And, one request ... Would you please share a larger photo with us of your army?
The 'watchtower' sides are basically made of cardboard. The top and bottom, are top parts from two mineral water 2ltr bottles. The round thing on the top is simply a marble. It was pretty impossible to use playmobil parts here. The only pieces are the sentry helmet (at the bottom of the tower), and Playmobil crosses from the sceptre used to give some design (but not sure these are visible in the pics).
We call this kind of watchtower a 'Gardjola', coming from 'Guardare' - to look.
The buildings are also made from cardboard. The brick size in the medieval wall parts is too small compared to those used it Malta, so couldn't use those. The Victorian house facade would've looked okay, but would have been expensive, and limit the variation. The buildings are typical of the time, and baroque was really in fashion.
The doors/windows are from the victorian house. They are identical to exisitng ones. The balconies and designs are also playmo parts, except the closed Maltese balcony.
The colour is like that of Maltese limestone.
Most of the buildings can still be found at the Vittoriosa waterfront. The arched builing was actually the Treasury of the Knight. It is now a restaurant...

You can see the clock tower there too ;D
This part of the harbour is now a yacht marina.

And a closeup of the knights for Richard....

Brian,
I have been searching for pictures of your Maltese diorama, but couldn't find them anymore. Are they still online somewhere?
Cheers,
DD.

Hello, Janice and DD ...
Brian posted more than 70 photos at Klickywelt. I have them all and would be happy to post them here if there are enough people who want to see them. Let's say 10 or more Playmofriends.
I can post them in the same order that Brian posted them at Klickywelt. But, you'll have to read Brian's narrative over at Klickywelt.
All the best,
Richard

Hello Richard,
I would love to see the whole series of pictures also, even if they are in dribbles of 4.

Thank you very much Richard!
I enjoy looking at what other people have created with this wonderful toy/hobby. I have a couple of the Malta Knights with my religious order and this certainly gives ideas what to do with them.
Again thanks,
Janice

Hi Richard,
Thank you very much for 'dribbling'
I opened the klickywelt link but couldn't find any picture over there.
Maybe because I wasn't logged on?
I used to have an account, but needed to reapply for one.
Cheers,
DD.

I'm glad I brought this up again (and thx to Richard for sharing pics) because a lot of people missed this amazing creation of Brian. ;D
Richard, by accident, do you have a good picture of the first Maltese knight (red body, white cross, grey hair & beard, ...) Since they're not available anymore I'm trying to build my own custom knight >:D

Hello, DD ...
Here's a photo of some of my Maltese and Templar Knights.
The Black Maltese Knight (Giovanni) was the first produced by Playmobil Malta and was followed by the red Maltese Knights a few years later. I was able to get my red Maltese knights quite awhile ago, in a very generous trade with Sylvia ... :)

hehehe already had this picture on my hard disk :wow:
Now, actually I have been looking for a picture with some more detail on the body.
Any chance that you can take some additional pics, if it's not too much of a hastle?

That's correct, DD ...
The red cloaks/capes were "borrowed" from set 4539 ... see attachment

Actually, I was planning to use the red Roman cloaks so that the neck is covered.

Artistic, no doubt! Wow!
Realistic!
Super-realistic!
(Which is a very interesting thing to do, with playmobil ... Different ar work than "common klicky way of life" ::), which is what I do, inspired in Night of the Reaper ... (Which is toward realistic art, but doesn't go beyond klicky, and it's very beautiful, nevertheless, in its style .. I'm far from Night of the Reaper yet ... )
Someone who does excellent "common klicky art" too, is that fellow at Garden Wargaming, whose name escapes me now, but that made pictures of Napoleonic soldiers in Egypt, and if the 100 years war, in the XVIth century ... And Scotsmen all with blue police bonnets ... That guy's a top of line artist, to me, and he isn't a customizer in terms of painting, cutting, et cetera, which are other ways of life (I mean, other ways of art ;D ).)

As for the pictures, .. er, despite the metalinguistics of this speech, I'm speechless!! :P
Wonderful!
Beautiful!
Work of art!
And very personal work of customization.
Not everyone can do it.
Skill is abundant, here! :yup: 8}

This is my custom Red Knight... It's not exactly the same when you look at the details, but still I don't thing it's a bad copy ;D Wish I had the original too :hmm:
I used custom made decals to get this result.

Some more customs...

Amazing work, Brian!!! :wow:

Excellent job DD! I especially like the treatment of the shields, did you do the decals yourself or have them done? Thank you for the pictures (thanks to Richard also for the dribbles).
