Title: Blue Dragoons
Post by: HDTM on February 15, 2016, 15:54:41
Hi everyone! :D
I keep on customizing my clickies, this time I present you the Blue Dragoons.
They are dragoons from the 18th century, they are called blue because of their coats.
Dragoons were infantry trained to ride into battle and then fight on foot, their main role was scouting and patrolling, fighting was less common.
Blue Dragoons are not based on any existing unit as far as I know, maybe the only ones similar to them are Continental Dragoons from the war of 1812.
My idea was to create a cavalry unit based on the mounted jaegers of American War of Independence but...I have only one green torso (the green guard form the pirate's jail) instead I have many Union Soldiers.

Here they are:

The body is from the special theme "Union soldier"
The Canteen is also from that set.

I love to put on my clickies lots of equipment, look how real they look!
I'm still thinking about how to give them some ammo belt... Hey,I'm taking advices :D

Since black facings are quite rare I decide to give the Blues some black.
Black Facings are also ideal for concealing the dirt: dragoons they take long rides to get behind or scouting the enemy having less time to clean their uniforms.

They are commanded by a Colonel.
I view them as less "virtuos" than line soldiers. Dragoons are tough as nails and don't mind to much at regulations.
Few of them don't fear to show 2 days beard or even full beard.

The Colonel lost the eye fighting the enemy, but in reality he's been captured and tortured.

Very nice! Your customs look great and I love the imaginative little backstories (the Colonel's past, etc.). Proper play fun, thanks for sharing!

Perhaps substitute a couple of canteens by pouch-on-shoulder-slings (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/textsearch.pl?sortby=description&page=1&text=pouch+on+shoulder+sling&lang=en/)?

Best wishes

Great army there.

Regulation or not, I doubt soldiers in the field would have been able to shave daily all the time.
There are some interesting sketches by an unknown Scotsman called the Penicuik Drawings. They show the english army of the mid 18th century looking quite different to what paintings of the time show them to look like. Coattails are untied and hanging loose like a cloak, tricornes undone and worn like a widebrimmed sun hat.

Hey thanks for the reference. I'd never heard of those drawings.

They were done in 1745-6 during the Jacobite Rising in Scotland so there are some ideas for modding the "Braveheart" klicky! :D

Updated Dragoon :)

Front view, both the scabbard and the cartridge box or pouch are made to be worn on the left side.
Problem solved by turning the ammo pouch on the right side.
Not too bad that the pouch is slightly forward

Right view
It seems that the scabbard for fat clickies fits better since the normal one gets raised by the shoulder belt

Very nice looking updated Dragoon! Excellent work. Thanks for sharing.

Nice to see that the pouch turned around worked out so well.

The fat-Klicky-scabbard has many applications with regular figures, for example in the Conquistador 4742 (fits over breastplate).

Is there a preferred side(asumming most are right-handed) or army regulations, left or right for the pouch sling? .....But I like to reverse them so that the pouches on my US civil war troopers can be seen from the front and also because I dont not have cross belts for my Red Coats.

Yes, StJohn, and may I also add that the fat judoka belts also nicely hugs the breast plates of later-year samurai soldiers

What a sweet idea, Master Cheng! I suppose you have put it into practice. Please forgive me for not being too familiar with your back catalogue... Until I signed up here I couldn't see any attached images. I have some catching up to do!

Best wishes

I've switched them onto my chinese terracotta soldiers now(wearing those PM Egyptian armour) because I preferred my samurai footsoldiers to wear white 'judoka' belts. (the new light blue 'Judoka' belts from F10 girls will also do, if someone here or Heather finds out the ETN for it someday)
