Post by: Raven on November 27, 2015, 15:02:47
Part 1a: Toby Arrives at the Zoo

'Here we are!' said Mummy.

'I think that this will be very educational for Toby,' said Daddy.

'Where do we pay?' wondered Daddy.

'Over here,' said Mummy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z003_zpskdovwog9.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z003_zpskdovwog9.jpg.html)

'Two adults and one child, please,' said Mummy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z004_zpsr4nyamvj.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z004_zpsr4nyamvj.jpg.html)

'Can we have a zoo map?' asked Toby.

'No, we don't need a map,' said Daddy, 'There will be maps and signposts all over the zoo.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z005_zpseg3lcknb.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z005_zpseg3lcknb.jpg.html)

'Look!' said Toby, 'There's a shop.  And they sell toys!'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z006_zpspqghzpt4.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z006_zpspqghzpt4.jpg.html)

'Maybe we can look at the shop on the way home,' said Daddy, 'We want to go and see the animals right now.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z007_zpsxccucrmd.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z007_zpsxccucrmd.jpg.html)

'There's a big map here,' said Toby.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z008_zpskav3lil8.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z008_zpskav3lil8.jpg.html)

'Look!  Look!' cried Toby, 'There's a Children's Play Area!  Let's go to the Children's Play Area!'

'Toby, we haven't come to the zoo to go to a children's playpark!' said Mummy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z009_zpsnpi1c6ut.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z009_zpsnpi1c6ut.jpg.html)

Part 1b:  What Toby Didn't See

Toby didn't realise that there were other parts of the entrance building, including a Staff Kitchen.

Part 2:  The Rhino Exhibit

'Look!' said Toby, 'There are trains!  And the train goes to the Children's Play Area.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z010_zpsgei2hgzc.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z010_zpsgei2hgzc.jpg.html)

'Toby,' said Daddy, 'Like Mummy said, we haven't come to the zoo to go to a playpark; nor to ride on trains.  We're going to walk along the African Adventure Trail, and it will be very exciting.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z011_zpsu8fvkred.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z011_zpsu8fvkred.jpg.html)

'I would have liked to have ridden on a train, though,' said Toby.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z012_zpsi044jbtl.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z012_zpsi044jbtl.jpg.html)

'Come along Toby,' said Daddy, 'Look, we're coming to the Rhinos now.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z013_zpsfzcjlaqo.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z013_zpsfzcjlaqo.jpg.html)

'Toby!' said Mummy, 'Get down off those rocks at once!  You will ruin your sandals!'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z014_zpspzvtfdhw.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z014_zpspzvtfdhw.jpg.html)

What Toby Didn't See

Toby didn't see the rhinoceros off-exhibit enclosure.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z014b_zps0tx1nio5.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z014b_zps0tx1nio5.jpg.html)

He didn't know that there was a zookeepers' area.

I am loving your off exhibit areas! Great job with them. That zoo fencing sideways on hooks as a barred doorway is genius! Love the use of the hotel room doors as locked entries as well

Love the keys hanging in the human resources.. is that original? The purpose, I mean? I think I am somewhat "off" recent sets :-[

That red-haired guy with the rhinos is beautiful...

No.  The shelf unit with pegs comes from the 5567 Kindergarten - which I didn't buy; I just ordered a few interesting parts from.  I don't know what that shelf-with-pegs is meant to be: it makes me think of storage for outdoor shoes, with the pegs underneath for bags containing indoor slippers.

More than that, though, it makes me think of  somewhere to hang keys!  But keys don't hang on there easily.   They do fall off again very easily.  There were many curses behind the scenes.  I replaced those keys many times. I threatened them with poster putty.  They eventually agreed to stay there long enough for me to take a photo.

I am loving this!  It's also giving me even more inspiration for when I do my own zoo diorama... and makes me find more stuff that I "need" for it.  LOL

But I love this! The suspense between parts is killer though!  I want more!

Part 3: More African Animals
and: What Toby Didn't See

'There's the train!' said Toby.

'Come along,' said Mummy, 'We are going to see the Zebras.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z015_zpsuyh20wwu.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z015_zpsuyh20wwu.jpg.html)

'Isn't this wonderful!' said Mummy.

'I like the water,' said Toby.

'Do you think the water is very deep?' Toby wondered.

What Toby Saw:

'We passed the Giraffes by going to see the Zebras,' said Mummy, 'So let's go back to see the Giraffes now.'

'But there's Lions!' said Toby, 'I want to see the Lions!'

'These Information Boards are very interesting and educational,' said Daddy.

'Can we go and see the Lions now?' asked Toby.

And he was unaware of the off-exhibit facilities.

Wow, what amazing attention to detail, Raven. I am loving the behind-the-scenes sections which remind us that keeping animals in captivity is no simple undertaking (well, it should be done properly, for sure).

Toby is going to get a go on that train (and a visit to the shop), I feel certain! And his speculation about how deep the water is, don't children always do that, though?

I can see parts from four 'generations' of Playmobil Zoo here, not to mention many other themes. Great work!

These off exhibit areas are fantastic! There's never space for those in big dioramas, but it's a great idea just setting up smaller parts at a time so we can see more detail. Really love the giraffe barn, it reminds me of the one in Houston. I also love the way we transition from one exhibit to the next, going around rocks and plants. That's something else that's hard to do with limited space but you have accomplished it so well.

'We're quite near the Children's Play Area,' said Toby, hopefully.

'Let's go and read all the interesting information about Lions,' said Daddy, firmly.

'Do we have to read everything?' whined Toby.

'You can go to the Children's Play Area later,' said Mummy.

I was wondering when that'd come up - who takes slippers for a day walking about?  :P
(not me - gods know I can barely walk on the things!   :-[ )

Poor, poor Toby. You are a great story teller. I really feel his pain and long for a happy twist so he will have a happy zoo memory in the end... But first tackle the broken slipper  ???

That's the same place the lions are always in when I go to the zoo!  I went to the St Louis zoo twice while I was there and the anteaters were off exhibit both times, so I got to see the peccaries instead. sigh

This just gets more amazing. It must have taken a ton of time to put together all the different spaces, even if they were only together briefly for the photos. I love the gazelle in the stall with a tag on the wall in the background of the hay store shot. Just amazing amounts of detail.

Thank you everybody for the wonderful comments.  Because of those, I'm inserting here a little interlude regarding the background to this story.

As many of you have guessed, I built this zoo in small parts.  I only have a dining table to build Playmobil upon - so I built one part; then dismantled it, and built another part:

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/EX1_zps8hbo2vtj.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/EX1_zps8hbo2vtj.jpg.html)

I wanted to build a zoo, and I couldn't afford all the lovely things that I thought I'd need.  I had things like walls, but I had nil zoo animals apart from a baby monkey and a shark (which doesn't get used, so please don't await the shark exhibit). So I bought some 'bargain' secondhand sets which included zoo animals.  My bargains looked kind of like this:

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/EX3_zpsemitvg52.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/EX3_zpsemitvg52.jpg.html)

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/EX4_zpsprpz6asd.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/EX4_zpsprpz6asd.jpg.html)

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/EX5_zpscccsqcob.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/EX5_zpscccsqcob.jpg.html)

OK, so now can I build a zoo out of what I've got?  It was like a personal challenge.  I did buy two new sets to help - one is a group of animals that Toby won't even see; and the other was the recent add-on hospital radiology set, to help along my veterinary hospital.  But that was all.  The rest was 'making do with what I've got'.

I did build every part, even though I didn't photograph every part.  (I don't think anyone wants to see endless toilets in every building, as well as the public toilets that Toby passed, or used, for example.)  Here in the recent veterinary hospital, as an illustration, the red arrow shows one of the very unexciting Scrub Rooms, where the vets wash before performing operations; and the green arrow shows the very dark Dark Room which joins onto the Radiology department.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/EX2_zpsnkxwooxw.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/EX2_zpsnkxwooxw.jpg.html)

I didn't build the zoo in order.  I 'knew' the story about Toby - that existed from the beginning of my idea - but I didn't do it in sequence.  I bulit whatever part I fancied doing at the time.  The Veterinary Hospital was actually the last part I built.  That was built in sections, and took two weeks to complete at two hours per day.  In the meantime, Mr Raven and myself had to eat at our computer desks.  As you can see above, there was no room left on the dining table to actually dine there.

The whole zoo took 51 weeks to complete.  It wasn't built non-stop of course.  Other parts of life happened, and sometimes I built other unrelated things in-between.  But I started it on 2nd December 2014, and completed it on 27th November 2015.

(And if you are observant, you can guess what was built when.  The summer-build parts are beautifully light and bright; and the winter-build parts are ... not.  Sometimes, I had to take photos right there and then, regardless of the lack of light or the stormy weather, before my muddy-paw cats came in and trampled all over my nice ground-cover cloths or card.)

On with the story tomorrow.....

I always love to see the "making of"..

Well.. I disagree... this IS a playmoforum, so, if you built it, take pics and post them! I mean, if someone doesn't wanna see, don't look... easy  :P

That is true.  I doubt that I could have resisted posting pictures that long!

I'm amazed at the variety of buildings and the total level of thought put into it.  I love the different buildings and enclosures, to me that makes a zoo unique.  I love the work!

Part 8:  Macaws
and: What Toby Didn't See

'Aren't they beautiful birds!' said Mummy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z055_zpsp5f6t8ey.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z055_zpsp5f6t8ey.jpg.html)

'We've seen them now,' said Toby.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z056_zps6lshuheh.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z056_zps6lshuheh.jpg.html)

'Are we going to have lunch now?' said Toby.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z057_zps47bsa3vg.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z057_zps47bsa3vg.jpg.html)

'Are we going now?' repeated Toby.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z058_zpsy1kefuex.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z058_zpsy1kefuex.jpg.html)

What Toby Didn't See:

Toby was unaware of the off-exhibit Macaw cages.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z058a1_zpsctixaozy.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z058a1_zpsctixaozy.jpg.html)

And the Food Preparation Area.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z058a2_zpsz5jhriqh.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z058a2_zpsz5jhriqh.jpg.html)

And Zookeeper Facilities.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z058a3_zpsbfhqcwzc.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z058a3_zpsbfhqcwzc.jpg.html)

Also, because Toby and his parents then went to have lunch, and then did not return past the Macaw enclosure, they did not realise that they missed a couple of exhibits.

They missed the Jaguar Exhibit.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z058b_zpsakbsld3i.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z058b_zpsakbsld3i.jpg.html)

The Jaguar Exhibit has strong fencing leading to the off-exhibit area.

Toby and his parents also missed the Polar Bear Exhibit.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z058f_zpsufezsyoi.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z058f_zpsufezsyoi.jpg.html)

Stairs lead down to an underwater viewing area.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z058h_zpsud9muavo.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z058h_zpsud9muavo.jpg.html)

The Polar Bear off-exhibit holding includes outdoor areas and dens.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z058i2_zpssvvfsud7.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z058i2_zpssvvfsud7.jpg.html)

The female's den also includes a choice of two cubbing dens, should she become pregnant.

There are also adjoining Zookeepers' Facilities.

Part 9:  Lunchtime
and: What Toby Didn't See

'I'm looking forward to some lunch,' said Mummy, 'Let's not get desserts here, though.  I saw on the map that there is an ice-cream parlour elsewhere, and I think it would be nice to go there for ice-creams later.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z059_zpso4tck1tr.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z059_zpso4tck1tr.jpg.html)

'Look, there are some play things!' said Toby.

'Well, I think that's for little children who can't sit still when they've finished their meal,' said Mummy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z060_zpszquujanq.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z060_zpszquujanq.jpg.html)

'We'll go to the real Children's Play Area after our lunch,' Mummy continued.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z061_zpsvcodcp7h.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z061_zpsvcodcp7h.jpg.html)

'Let's collect some trays,' said Mummy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z062_zpsd0u8qngo.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z062_zpsd0u8qngo.jpg.html)

'There are roast meats,' said Mummy, 'I'm going to have roast beef.'

'I'll just have fries,' said Toby, quickly.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z063_zpsheoo8pd7.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z063_zpsheoo8pd7.jpg.html)

'All these three trays together,' said Mummy to the cashier.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z064_zpsh7nutpy6.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z064_zpsh7nutpy6.jpg.html)

'Ill get the cutlery,' said Daddy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z065_zpsm4ifzckx.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z065_zpsm4ifzckx.jpg.html)

'Toby, pay attention and eat your lunch,' said Mummy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z066_zpssopjxjqe.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z066_zpssopjxjqe.jpg.html)

'And now we can go to the Children's Play Area,' said Daddy.

'Yippee!' said Toby.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z067_zpsj0dqi5iw.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z067_zpsj0dqi5iw.jpg.html)

What Toby Didn't See:

Toby didn't notice the swing doors behind the food counter.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z067b_zpsjcyzp9dk.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z067b_zpsjcyzp9dk.jpg.html)

Which lead to the restaurant kitchen.

And the staff sitting room.

That´s perfect!

I love the cuterly stand, the boxes for the trays, the shelf in front of the long row of food counters, where you can slip your tray on (genius!!!), the shelves with the color plates.

Again a marvellous set up!

^ It's an illusion hat.

The combination of the colours I used, and the light that day, made the restaurant photos rather glowing.  The klicky is actually wearing an ordinary white headscarf/bandana.  She previously appeared in the background when Toby first entered the zoo.

Part 10: The Children's Play Area!

'Look!' cried Toby, 'this is going to be so exciting!'

'Well, don't race around too much, right after your lunch,' said Daddy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z069_zpszq7qdruq.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z069_zpszq7qdruq.jpg.html)

'Here, let me push you on the swing,' Daddy said.

'Be careful, climbing up there!' said Daddy.

'You should come up here,' a girl said to Toby.

'I don't like this Play Area,' said Daddy, 'We are not risking you getting a broken neck.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z079_zpsft1wfvco.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z079_zpsft1wfvco.jpg.html)

'Come and have a look at the ducks,' said Daddy, 'And then we'll go somewhere else.'

'Cheer up, Toby,' said Mummy, 'I saw on the map that the Children's Zoo is near here.  We can pop in there.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z082_zpsd2ljpzaz.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z082_zpsd2ljpzaz.jpg.html)

'But first,' said Mummy, 'I must try and fix your sandal.  It is worse than ever after that climbing around at the Play Area.  Luckily, I've got some glue in my handbag.'

The red slide is great, but......

In a stand-alone Waterpark, attached to the lower platform, the slide touches the ground:

http://www.playmobil.de/wasserspielplatz/6670.html

If you take the structure off the base, however, it is too long!

It can be attached on-base from the higher platform to a swimming pool, including an older one:

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/WP1_zps9bzwrefm.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/WP1_zps9bzwrefm.jpg.html)

But, off the base, it is still too high to touch the ground, so therefore needs to rest on something, like a sandpit, as I used in the Play Area:

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Waterpark%202_zpsfphfbhqk.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Waterpark%202_zpsfphfbhqk.jpg.html)

A very nice slide, but can be difficult to use in other scenes.

I was going to dislike his parents.  ;)

Very beautifull dining area, I like all the little details there.  :)

Nice big play area too, and that little girl reminds me of SO many kids when I was that age. And my parents usually didnt want me playing with kids like that either out of fear I'd do something crazy.
Even though the only time I had an incident at a slide it was because my mom said I'd go faster if I'd go down it on my belly. That advice did not go well with a more diagonal slide and a sandbox causing me to get a mouthfull of sand.

The tray counters in the restaurant are fantastic! Really nice touch. And I love the play area, too. I had been thinking of doing the same thing, combining the water park stuff with the playground. It's quite nice, and good solution for how the slide didn't match up. Also loved all the sheep and goat poop.

But the polar bear exhibit! Fantastic! I've been wanting to accomplish an underwater viewing area but haven't had the space for a large structure. You've inspired me, though. I think I'm going to set my zoo up in small parts now so I can really put in all the details I want!

Is the orange food box of the chickens original Playmobil?

I have never seen it.

Where does it come from?  ???

The sign under the register, where they get the animal food is really great! :)

^  Great!  As you now know, it comes from the 5119 Barn With Silo.  Playmobil illustrations suggest that is used with pigs, but I think it is good with chickens too.

Also loved all the sheep and goat poop.

:)  When I went to a Children's Zoo to be molested by feed goats, I was very conscious of the amount of goat poop that I was collecting on the undersides of my shoes!  For this Children's Zoo, I originally put down round black mustard seeds as poop, which looked great .... but my dining table (on which the zoo was built) is not flat and even, and the mustard seeds kept rolling off to the edges of the enclosures.  So I (painstakingly) picked it all up, and used nigella/black onion seeds instead.  Not so great (wrong shape), but after my real-life messy experience, I really could not have goats (and sheep) without some sort of poop!

The red slide is great, but......

In a stand-alone Waterpark, attached to the lower platform, the slide touches the ground:

If you take the structure off the base, however, it is too long!

It can be attached on-base from the higher platform to a swimming pool, including an older one:

But, off the base, it is still too high to touch the ground, so therefore needs to rest on something, like a sandpit, as I used in the Play Area:

A very nice slide, but can be difficult to use in other scenes.

It will actually work better than I anticipated in what I'm thinking of doing with it... now to get 3 and the parts to make the platform...

Part 13:  More Zoo Animals
and: What Toby Didn't See

'Where would you like to go now, Toby?' asked Daddy.

'Are there any more pigs?' asked Toby, 'I loved the pigs.'

'I shouldn't think there are any more pigs,' said Mummy, 'But we could see the Pandas or the Penguins.'

'Not penguins,' said Toby, 'I've seen penguins before, on that trip to the Bird Park with my school.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z108_zpsqyjrimgn.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z108_zpsqyjrimgn.jpg.html)

What Toby Didn't See:

So Toby didn't go to see the Penguins.

With a Food Preparation Area.

And a Water Treatment Area downstairs.

What Toby Saw:

Instead of Penguins, Toby went to see the Pandas.

'This is a wonderful opportunity,' said Daddy, 'Not many zoos have Pandas.'

What Toby Didn't See:

Each Panda enclosure led via a secure metal tunnel to the individual Panda's indoor off-exhibit enclosure, with a small shelter to sleep under, and access to an open-air feeding area.

So for all those information posters (I have lost count how many!), you had to set up the animals and habitat, take the photos, print off the information posters, then set up the appropriate part of the zoo...

Amazing!
Title: Re: Toby Goes to the Zoo
Post by: Raven on December 07, 2015, 08:55:18
Yep.   ;D

And read some websites about the animals too, so I could put some basic information on the posters.  I didn't really know much about anything, so had to look it up.

I must admit, though, that in the end I began to feel a bit the same way as Toby regarding Information Centres....

Amazing amount of work yet again, those are some great looking offices, tons of detail there.

"Tons of detail" is exactly the right word!

Looking at all the stickers at the walls, the First Aid box, the construction plans, and, and, and...

It´s simply stunning!

I can´t remember, when a diorama has hooked like this!  8}

BEST!!!!

A very happy Daniela, can´t stop looking at every pic again and again and again

Part 16:  The Education Centre
and: What Toby Didn't See

'What's this place?' wondered Toby.

'It's an Education Centre,' said Daddy.

'I don't want to go in there!' said Toby.

'You have to get a special ticket, anyway,' said Mummy, 'Come on, let's go and see the Camels, then we'll go home.'

What Toby Didn't See:

Although he looked through the window, Toby didn't properly see inside the Education Centre.

Part 17:  The Camels
and: What Toby Didn't See

'Here are the camels,' said Daddy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z160_zps2khzhv4f.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z160_zps2khzhv4f.jpg.html)

'I'm not standing here next to an information board,' said Toby.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z162_zpsxlhw5qwn.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z162_zpsxlhw5qwn.jpg.html)

'I'm going over here,' he said.

'This is a better place,' said Toby, 'There's no information here.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z164_zps0nguai4e.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z164_zps0nguai4e.jpg.html)

What Toby Didn't See:

The camel holding area.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z165_zpsienk5jhb.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z165_zpsienk5jhb.jpg.html)

What Toby Saw:

'Look!' cried Toby, 'It's the girl from the Children's Play Area!'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z165a_zpse8xumwwu.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z165a_zpse8xumwwu.jpg.html)

What Toby Didn't See:

Toby and his parents didn't go into the Birds of Prey Exhibit opposite the Camel Enclosure.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z165b_zpspyo30cbc.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z165b_zpspyo30cbc.jpg.html)

So they didn't see the birds on display.

A female kestrel:

A pair of Barn Owls:

Nobody saw much of the Snowy Owl:

The off-exhibit areas have perching branches and feeders.

Part 18: Time to Go Home

'It's been an exciting day for Toby,' said Mummy, 'I hope we haven't tired him out too much.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z171_zps0gvb6g5d.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z171_zps0gvb6g5d.jpg.html)

'Can we go and look at the toys?' asked Toby, 'Please, you said we could!'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z172_zps8dubyflg.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z172_zps8dubyflg.jpg.html)

'Alright then,' said Mummy.

'Yippee!' said Toby.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z173_zpsni2rxjn1.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z173_zpsni2rxjn1.jpg.html)

'Would you like a toy animal, Toby?' asked Mummy.

'No, there are no pigs,' said Toby.

'How about an elephant?' suggested Mummy, 'You liked the elephants.'

'No, I wouldn't play with it,' answered Toby, honestly, 'I'd play with toy pigs though.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z174_zpsefymxf60.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z174_zpsefymxf60.jpg.html)

'Well, let's look around a bit more, now we're here,' said Mummy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z175_zpsnggxccfu.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z175_zpsnggxccfu.jpg.html)

'You can buy new sandals here,' said Toby.  But Daddy wasn't listening.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z177_zpseunanwf6.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z177_zpseunanwf6.jpg.html)

'This head hasn't got any eyes nor a mouth,' said Toby.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z178_zpsqpamk7s8.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z178_zpsqpamk7s8.jpg.html)

'Lovely dresses,' said Mummy to the sales assistant, 'But I don't really go anywhere to wear such outfits.'

Daddy didn't appear to be listening again.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z179_zpsdqdhh1g0.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z179_zpsdqdhh1g0.jpg.html)

'Toby! Get off that chair immediately!' said Mummy.

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z180_zpsyyn4iyo4.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z180_zpsyyn4iyo4.jpg.html)

'It's time to go home.'

(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/Raven461/Z181_zpssdro1ib1.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/user/Raven461/media/Z181_zpssdro1ib1.jpg.html)

'It's been a lovely day,' said Mummy, 'And you've seen a lot of very interesting animals, haven't you, Toby?'

'I liked the pigs,' said Toby.

Fantastic thread, been a wonderful story and so much great background on zoos. Playmobil does make micro pigs, too bad the gift shop didn't stock any. Maybe the next zoo will have some.

Oh Raven... I can't even begin to describe how much I enjoyed this photo story  :)

No wonder it took you a year to complete, it shows in the level of detail, the creative solutions for stuff I would never have come up with in a million years, the lay-out of all the different buildings and enclosures, the story-line with so many unexpected puns

I especially enjoyed all the places Toby didn't get to see, with excellent use of parts from various system-X buildings and circus parts and so on. I wish it was sitting somewhere in one piece for me to come see in real life, I could spend hours looking at it all.

Incredible, impressive, sensational

I really like the idea.  I really like the idea of you looking at, say, the hippo exhibit, and then, as soon as you move on to the zebras, I'm scooping up the hippo fencing and ground cover, and rushing ahead of you to place it down somewhere else....

Not to mention the zookeepers.  There were actually only four of them.  So I'd have to quickly pick them up too; change their arms, legs, and hairstyles, and then slam them down again to be Absolutely Very Different Zookeepers at the next place you looked.
