Sohei were Buddhist warrior monks of feudal Japan(not to be confused with their Chinese conterparts in Shaolin)
They held considerable power between the 10th and 17th centuries,
protecting land and intimidating rival schools of Buddhism.
Unlike the solitary mountain Yamabushi warrior-monks,
Sohei were generally organized into large armies or mobs.
Much like the Teutonic Order in ancient Germany and the crusades,
Sohei operated as as warriors in large extended groups of temples.

Those look very nice master cheng...
And I'd like a "how to" for that bald head, pretty please?
-
have been making those bald heads for my samurai half-shaven heads with top-knots for a few years now...
just sacrifice a klicky head, saw the back part of his head without his eyes and mouth and....if
youre against supergluing, just use blue-tac to fit it over a regular head (cleanly trimmed at the top to receive the top skull/cranium)
think i've shown this somewhere before but anyway, here's an older photo....this older version has a hole to take the 'pin' underneath the top-knot

Thank you master :wow:
Another one to my never ending things-to-try :)

actually the regular bald pirate with red/black(think there's another new color, yellow?) bandanas are ok for my Japanese monks....its just that there's none at the moment with a white bandana, hence I had to make one....I don't think you want to try this if you can just use those regular bald pirate heads ;D

You may have a point there.. :-[

just sharing this photo i received from a playmobil friend.....

The warrior monks' favourite weapon was the Yari(a blade attached to the end of a long pole)
Another awesome weapon some Warrior monks used was the Tetsubo,
a one-handed (or two-handed, the largest ones being as tall as a man)
iron spiked club, used to smash enemies' armor, bones or legs of their warhorses.
these monks needed great strength, balance and skill to recover from a miss with the heavy club, which would otherwise leave a him open to a counter-attack
(Tahra, you can see a clearer shot of the baldie I explained earlier)
-
They look great! :)
-
thanks Pynedor, I'm continuing to make more,
however, I still prefer to make uniform-looking armies.....not to comfortable with non-uniformed armies but looking at Super 4, there's no need to conform anymore....at least I still make sure mine looks Klicky-like ;)
-
Another way to get bald heads is the "hat" for the baldie in set 4247. Just paint it and itll work great! :)
(first post yay)
-
that's quite a good suggestion Venser, thanks....I do have quite a few in different colors....but I try not to paint unless I can find a 'skin' colored spray (I have to have an even finish as though it is original) and furthermore, its too thick for a samurai 'sweat band'....as it is, I'm not comfortable using the plamo-baldie's head and don't want to sand it down....yet....you've given me this new idea and I might sand down the regular baldie head and see if it looks better.... so you HAVE given me a new idea...will report back and BIG thank you, in fact! ;)
(so, definitely not those 'turbans' below, as they will need a hair piece underneath)
-
The sacrificial head idea is a good one, particularly if you want a head that is mostly bald and thanks to the printed heads, it will be easier to source such curved surfaces in the right colour. I want to try something similar for european monks.

Actually, I meant the guy without a turban. However, you don't just have to use it for samurai--it works for a variety of purposes.

oh sorry, now I understand..you mean to paint the dark skin to light skin color....
but its a lot easier to get these bald heads in light skin color than dark....and we dont have to paint them 8}

what do you mean by 'sacrificial head'? ???
the baldie with a sweat band?
-
finally, sweat band (more correct) in white on this new monk using our Roman toga(?)
-
and speaking of meat bands.... I made a more correct Japanese sweat band....narrow and with knot in the front
-
Nice work master :)
Never ceases to amaze me the way you can twist those things and make them do you bidding!
-
couldn't resist putting on a Super 4 head.....looks fine too huh? ;D
-
thanks playmo-master Tahra....speaking of these home-made white belts....I must say again that they are temporary until they reissue those white belts on the old african native special...but my predicament is growing, my Asians are wearing around 80 such belts now...and still waiting for a plane load of original white belts from DS :( :-\ :hmm: >:(

Looks GREAT!
-
thanks Tahra....I like the way this Super 4 eyebrows sweep upwards
...let's see if these heads can fit only the most unlikely klickies and still look appropriate ;)

Sorry Master, lost me... Those heads are perfectly normal - cheap painted kind, but still normal klicky heads....

oh, I mean they look so un-playmo
to us that I thought they won't look right with our 'normal' klickies but I guess, it has passed my acid test and is acceptable on my shelves
but perhaps not
with my Romans etc

Ah, ok.. I don't think they look un-playmo.... Except for the lack of mouth on that fat guy (CREEPY) - and the fact that they are printed >:( , I like the new Super 4 heads... Great for added variety... (unlike those horrid ones from the figures... the stoned drunk one and that... whatever it is creepy grin).
