"Easternized" Westerner vs "Westernized" Easterner.
but the main subject for the movies cameras this time is not on Tom Cruise but on the klicky wearing a top-knot
(some of the background to the movie is reasonably true, Japan in the 1870s was in the throes of social and political changes. There were samurai who objected to the changes and took up arms in rebellion. Westerners in 1876 generally considered the Japanese to be uncivilized and inferior to Caucasians. )

Cool figures, as always, cheng. :)

Very nice! the armor looks great.
Personly I do like the movie, aside from Tom Cruise part in it. Everyone playing a samurai seems more interesting than him.
I just dont get why they keep making movies where a white guy enters another culture and master in months or weeks what the natives have known their entire life.
Its a beautifull sentiment to grow to appreciate other people their culture, but why must he be the most amazing samurai ever? He's the only one walking away from that end battle. The story would have worked a lot better if he was more observing and fighting less. Maybe training a bit but never being anywhere near as good as the real samurai. Could be more an advisor to them about modern combat tactics.
I get that its pretty inaccurate in many ways, though personly I dont mind a bit of romantisism. Its what I do in my medieval stories too with playmobil.

Hey all.
I loved the movie too. Also got some more inspiration for my samuraï helmets there.
The movie is based upon the true story of a French military, and, if I recall correctly, he even returned to France afterwards.
Beautiful customs my friend, though I prefer your taiko drummer! Never had a passion for uniforms, personally.
The armor is awesome! Hope Geobra are watching…

Masterful stuff, cheng.

Do you remember the guy's name?

Macruran, according to IMDB the man's name is Jules Brunet.
Although no attempt at historical accuracy is made, the story was inspired by several real events. The basic story, that of a samurai rebellion against the Imperial Japanese government, was inspired by the 1877 Satsuma Rebellion during which samurai in the Satsuma domain in Tokugawa Japan revolted against the new Meiji government. Algren's involvement was inspired by stories of Jules Brunet, a French army captain who fought alongside the Tokugawas in the earlier Boshin War [1868-1869].
Owww... that copy/ paste makes my English look flawless!
Wonderful customs again, Cheng! Always a treat for the eyes...
