Title: Gardenwargaming/Laughing Giraffe
Post by: JLMatterer on August 19, 2015, 22:47:54
Does anyone have advice or comments on these 2 boards, listed on the PCC website? When I try to register with Gardenwargaming, I'm sent to Playmofriends; Laughing Giraffe says my Yahoo email address is not accepted. Just curious - any reason for this? Any similar experiences? Are these boards worth registering with? My Playmobil life is quite happy on Playmofriends, but I do like exploring other boards, such as Tricornejock & Klickywelt.

TX,
Jim

Laughing Giraffe is essentially dead at this point. I don't know what the status is at GW.

Jim,
When you joined Playmofriends you had an opportunity to also be registered as a member of Garden Wagaming at no additional charge.
However, it's not too late. All you need to do is send Sylvia a PM (private message) here at Playmofriends and ask her to please also register you as a member of Garden Wargaming.
Looking forward to seeing you over there,
Richard

Hi Jim,

I've made an account for you at GWPC and you should receive the login details in your yahoo inbox shortly.

I'll PM them to you also just to be on the safe side. :)

Laughfing giraffe was a site created during a forum split. Some members went there and some came here. From time to time forums get a shakedown and members scatter. Playmobored was the last big event as Panos, the sites owner started cutting off people's heads during a heated issue. Panos and tinker bell , his girl, disappeared with their huge collection. LG has been slow for years and now the pcc is doing it in.

Garden war gaming is a fan site dedicated to war, a topic not allowed here. Many members from there are also members here. It's an outlet to serious war enthusiasts in playmo form. Some great customs for sure.

Klicky welt is a German version of playmofriends with heated debates and lots of rule breaking, as seen with the "confidential" clause. There are loads of serious collectors with amazing customs.

Times change. Just when I get comfortable the rug get pulled out.

FB, twitter, pcc, forums, personal web sites......all competing for a small group of nuts.

In my opinion all the choices just diluted the collectors.

Ras, are members like playmoboard's EsDoc in KW now? I still don't back up my threads....(I used to have long discussion and "how to" military threads in PB...all lost, so it took the wind out of me)

there are a few members in here who frequent kw. I gave up over there, got burned in a few transactions.  I could ask around.

I tried a few times to track panos from PB down. I wanted to acquire the archive files from PB. The domain name expired a year or so ago. He was living in San Fransico, less than an hour away, so I figured it would be easy enough. I guess he really did not want anybody contacting him after the event.

I really wanted all the history from PB, so much great material was there.

The sad part is: people post the same pictures/ stories in many forums. Gardenwargaming is NOT a forum for people who like wars. It's just another of many (but an earlier) forum.

Almost everything you find on GWG you find everywhwere else. Ras is right. We collectors get diluted.

Time to have one major forum where everyone can post in his/her natural language (and Google translator translate for you) but all ideas get collected centrally. Can't be too difficult.

I am sooooooo bored of reading and seeing the same stuff/pictures in different languages...

Yes. It's frustrating seeing repeats that's why I'm totally oblivious of what goes on in the other forums.

Personly I've always prefered english forums, I dont even get why many beautifull english books are ruined through translations to Dutch.
Not sure if there are Dutch playmobil forums but I really wouldnt have an interest in joining them.

Since I do not go to other forums anymore I was not aware of the repeat content. I would have guessed, form the lack of action in here and the exodus of members, that they went to other boards.

In the past KW had a lot of "exclusive" content. I had to travel to KW, GWG, TJ, LG, PF, just to see dioramas and read whats going on.

Perhaps if the pcc would change its format it would become this central location for all. I know we all did not want the pcc to compete against our beloved forums but the results of dilution is we now have less action, especally in here. I know there are other factors in the loss of action, personally I just do not have time right now to play and take pictures,. Its part of the fun to have fresh content

Me on the other hand, I would not like one big forum where all the languages are mixed and you can only understand some of the content. Google translate is good to understand a few words or the basics, but not when you want to actively engage in conversation, understand the jokes, express yourself exactly the way you want to... I think it's only natural people like to use online communication platforms in a language they are comfortable with.

Facebook is different in that way: it's mostly about pictures and very short messages.

I check Klickywelt sometimes, and most of the content seems new to me. I can read German but it takes way more effort than English, so that's why I don't go there often.

I must admit that I enjoy being on the different boards, because I have no life. :) Seriously; I don't work & once the basics of the day are over with, I must make my own plans. If I'm able to get out, I enjoy the countryside & looking for places to take Playmobil selfies. If I'm in for the day, Playmobil keeps me busy when reading & doing chores don't. The amount of time I kill uploading pics & going back & forth between boards keeps my mind busy & I'm less liable to be depressed about being sick, & feeling less pain. I live in pain, but Playmobil makes me feel good. I take as much as I can get!  :D I take 14 meds in the morning, & some more at night, including shots. Clickies help get me through it all.

I enjoy the different boards. This is the only one I check regularly but I go to Klickywelt and Tricornejock to check out what people are doing from time to time. The Neuheiten forum at Klickywelt is the best place to track what new things come out, especially the European exclusives. Both Klickywelt and TJ have great forums with photos of the shows and diorama displays in Europe, much better than what we get here. So I check those out a few times a year or after big shows like this weekends show in Luxembourg. There are some people that only post at each forum as well and some like Lori at TJ do amazing work that I would miss otherwise. She did one of the best Medievel stories I have ever seen in Playmobil this last year.

same here,PF is "my" homebase, but KW is interesting too follow.

Only downside for staying in one lingo, such as English, you miss a lot of interesting people who only speak their own native language.
A lot of older and younger Dutch for example are bad in English.
On the other hand, seeing all the different languages used on PCC  8} :eh?:

I only check playmofriends myself, and the PCC. Aside from that I'm also keeping up with twitter and a gaming forum, with a few other spots I check rarely so I tend to be busy enough with keeping up with everything.

Exactly, and that's probably what an 'all-languages-are-allowed' forum would look like.

I consider Playmofriends (PF) and Klickywelt (KW) as my "home-forums", though I write somewhat more overhere then on KW.
My English writing-skills are still a bit better then my German ones and so it is still a bit easier for me do discuss things in English.

I´m also registered on the international forum Tricorne-Jock (TJ) and the Spanish forum Playclicks (PC), but I don´t have enought time to check those on a regular basis, not to speak of participating there.
It´s been a long while since I vistited any dedicated French forum, it is just too much all together.
Concerning Laughing Giraffe (LG), I registered there as well after Playmoboard (PB) split up many years ago, but LG never got much traction.

I think it is good the major language-groups have / keep  their own forum (not everyone speaks / understands multiple languages) so people can express themselves fluently in their mother-tongue (or a common language like f.e. English), but I wish the PCC had a better format so the ones who want to communicate internationally would have a common place to do so in an effective way.

Personly I just never understood why many people prefer their native language online. I really dont have an interest to speak Dutch online at all.
Then again I prefer english when I write stories as well, and strongly dislike that for my writing education I must write in Dutch.

Our native Dutch is almost only spoken in the nothern half of Belgium (Flanders) and in The Netherlands, and as both are rather small regions, many Dutch / Flemish people (have to) learn & speak one or more foreign European languages. This is traditionally much less the case in big European countries like France and Germany. And English and Spanish are global languages, so people having those as native tongue won´t be much encouraged in learning a foreign language either. So most often they find it much more normal to speak their own language online then we do.

True, but other countries seem to make terrible dubs of movies and series as well, which completely ruins it. I'd imagine many people woulnt want those dubs. As a kid I already hated dubbing of cartoons.
