Port Westroger, a large coastal town known for its tolerance of pirates.

While they are kept out of the main city, the docks are their territory.
The blacksmith will happily sell swords to them and asks no questions about where they get their money as long as they pay him.

Many notorious pirate ships are docked in the harbour.

Including the Poseidon, the ship of Captain Bill Black.
Both old and young pirates wander these streets. Drinking, gambling, telling tall tales about their adventures, and the locals dont mind as long as their things arent stolen.

Inside "The sword and Cutlass" tavern, the most feared Pirate captains gather. If you are not a Pirate captain of some reputation or one of their trusted friends, you wont be allowed in there.

And the few guards that there are? Well some are unhappy about all this, like Nelson. And others like Leon don't mind taking it easy.

Nelson: "What has become of our beautifull city? Pirates everywhere.. We should restore law and order but we dont have the men."
Leon: "Dont worry about that, I rather just have a drink and enjoy the weather rather than stand on guard duty all day."
Nelson: "You should not drink while on duty Leon. We are guards, we need to set an example."
Leon: "And hope the pirates follow it? Besides, they arent that bad. I've played cards with them often enough, you should try it sometimes."
Nelson: "I won't associate myself with those ruffians and neither should you!"

A lone pirate is paddling into the harbour, It is John Falcon, happy to make it there with his recently aquired treasure.

As soon as he sets foot on land, someone is quick to approach him.

Pirate: "That's a nice silver chest you have there buddy, it looks heavy. Maybe I should carry it for you."
John quickly grabs his pistol as he turns around.

John: "You better keep moving, and I am not your buddy. I worked hard for this and you can't have it."
The pirate is quick to move away with the pistol aimed at him.
Pirate: "Just wait untill captain Grey hears about this, you will be sorry."
Meanwhile, at the blacksmith an aspiring young captain just bought himself a new sword.

Ryan the Red: "Ah a fine sword it is, worthy of a captain and well worth the money!"
Salesman: "Thank you, come again."
Holding his sword proudly, he marches towards "the sword and cutlass"

Ryan the Red: "Now I will fit right in amongst the other captains!"
On his way, he runs into the crew of Bill Black, who Ryan used to be a part of as well before he got his own ship.

Rowena: "Whoa there Ryan, you can't just walk into the Sword and Cutlass. It's only for captains and whoever they bring in with them."
Ryan the Red: "I am my own captain now. I have my own ship so I belong there just as well as Bill Black and the others."
Rowena: "Trust me, you really don't. That little boat of yours is nothing compared Bill Black's Poseidon. I should thank you though, since you left he made me first mate."
Ryan the Red: "Well you can have that job, he won't be bossing me around anymore."
And so he moves on, boldly stepping into "The sword and cutlass"

And John tries to ask around for a place to store his hard earned coins.
John Falcon: "Hey there, can you tell me where the bank is in this town?"
Villager: "There is not one in this city sir, but nearby out of town there is a bank."
John Falcon: "Very well, thanks for the trouble."

Stepping inside, Ryan sees the captains sitting at their usual table and some of Bill Black's pirates being served fresh ale by the friendly tavern girl.

Boldly he steps up to the table where Captain Bill Black is sitting, alongside with his friends Captain Pete Grey and Captain Alfonso.

Ryan the Red: "Well hello there Billy, as you can see I am a captain myself now, I have my own ship and am gathering a crew. I'm not that bad though, let me buy you all a round of rum and we can sit down and talk as equals now."
None of them seem very pleased to see Ryan or very welcomeing of his offer however, and Bill even grabs his pistol and aims it at Ryan.

Bill Black: "You just keep moving, traitor. I dont want your charity and you are no captain. If I ever see your little boat sailing past, I will shoot it to oblivion. Let that be a warning. Now away with you!"
Ryan was about to turn around and leave the tavern, when a lone captain waved him over from his private table.

Warren Peterson: "Don't listen to those three young man. A small ship with a good crew can in time move on to a larger ship with a larger crew. Please, sit down."
Ryan sits down with a smile and lays his sword on the table.

Ryan the Red: "That's very kind of you, do you maybe have any other advice for me?"
Warren Peterson smiles. "Best not to boast before you have something to boast about. Right now you have nothing to show for yet. Build up a name, and then walk back into this tavern with word of your succes traveling ahead of you. Also get a strong crew you can rely on. Last thing you need is a mutiny. Be tough but fair, they will respect that. And lead from the front, not from behind your men."
While Ryan keeps listening to the friendly old captain, a great deal of trouble seems to be marching towards port Westroger...

I'd been meaning to post about bayonets for some time and that picture spurred me on. I didn't want to make a personal reference though because I love this photostory and want it to continue!

Some noise is heard at the gates of port Westroger, and Emily stops a pirate who runs past.

Emily: "Whoa there buddy, what's the rush? what's going on?"
Pirate: "The soldiers are coming! I got to warn the captain!"
As the pirate continues on his way, Emily makes her way to the docks.

Emily: "I don't know what they are up to but I rather not stay around to find out."
John Falcon was about to head of the city when he is stopped by the pirate he met earlier, he has returned with two friends.

Pirate: "So we meet again! Hand over that chest if you want to keep living!"
John: "I think theres worse things happening, look! there's soldiers marching in!"
Pirate: "No excuses, now hand over that chest!"
And the soldiers are indeed marching in, lead by general Reginald Montcalm.

General Montcalm: "Men, soldiers of Westport, the time has come to rid this once beautifull city of these filthy pirates! Capture those that surrender, shoot those who resist!"
Nelson: "You hear that Leon? General Montcalm has arrived and has given the order I've been waiting for a long time! We outnumber the pirates! We can win this! to arms!"

Leon: "Wait a minute, some of those people are my poker buddies! And they arent really causing much trouble here at the docks, they just fight each other a bit here and there but thats all."
Nelson: "Hush now Leon! No more gambling with pirates! I will make an honourable soldier out of you yet!"
John Falcon: "Look, we have to get out of here or they will shoot us!"

Pirate: "Good idea."
One of them knocks John unconcious with his pistol before they grab his chest and rush off to "the sword and cutlass."

The redcoats are quick to attack the pirates, who are not planning to go down without a fight!

Shopkeeper: "No fighting, no fighting! Though if you need to fight, do it with one of my blades! the finest quality in Westroger!"
Slowly the redcoats manage to push forward, but the old veterans are giving them a lot of trouble.

General Montcalm: "Drive them back men! Onwards!"
They manage to reach "the sword and cutlass" Where old captain Jones and his crew are fighting their way through the redcoats to get to their ship.

Captain Jones speaks to his men while shooting one of the soldiers and calmly puffing from his pipe at the same time: "We've sailed the seas for more than thirty years and faced tougher foes than this! We will carve ourselves a way to the ship boys!"
Captain Grey's pirates are running away from the redcoats to warn their captain, prefering to let the older pirates take care of them.
Meanwhile Emily has made her way to the docks where she encounters one of the marines.

Marine: "Hold it right there you pirate scum! You are not going anywhere save for a jail cell!"
Emily draws her sword. "Bring it on, I am taking this boat and you won't stop me!"
A dockworker screams in panic as he sees the two about to start opening fire with him in between.
Marine: "If you think you can pull that sloop loose from the dock and can paddle faster than this cannon here, go ahead and give it a try!"

Emily drops her weapons and raises her hands. "Alright! I give up! This is not worth risking my life for."
The poor dockworker runs off, the exitement becomeing too much for him.
One of the pirates runs into "the sword and cutlass"

Pirate: "Captain Grey! Captain Grey! The soldiers are attacking! We have to get out of here!"
Ryan the Red: "We should fight them together, they won't stand a chance!"

Captain Grey: "We don't need you slowing us down, boy. You stay right here or I will shoot you myself."
Captain Bill Black: "Stay out of our way or you will regret it."

Captain Grey and Black boldly move out of the tavern with their men to try and cut themselves a way through the soldiers.

Rowena: "We have cleared a way to the ship, captain Black."
Bill Black: "I still see soldiers in my way, I expect you to do a better job next time first mate!"
Rowena grumbles and follows her captain to the Poseidon, along with the rest of the crew.
With the other captains rushing outside, Ryan looks back to see captain Warren is gone.

Ryan: "Hey, where did captain Warren go?"
Tavern girl: "I don't know, but that nice man did leave more than enough money to pay for your drinks."
Captain Alfonso was still sitting and drinking wine, appearantly not in any hurry to leave.

Ryan: "Aren't you going back to your ship captain Alfonso?"
Captain Alfonso: "No, I don't run from any soldiers. Those that dare walk in here will be dealt with."
In the meanwhile Captain Pete Grey has managed to find a rowboat and is making his way back to the ship while the redcoats where fighting other pirates.

Captain Bill Black also made it back to his ship, the Poseidon.

Captain Black: "Set sail for Tortuga, and let's hope these redcoats take out as much of our competition as possible!"
The soldiers try to fire at the fleeing pirates, but they cant prevent their escape.

Nelson: "Don't worry, that they are out of the city is most important. We will catch them some other time."
With all the fighting going on, Ryan has decided to sneak out of a window to make his escape.

But when he turns around he realises he has not exactly been going unnoticed...

Ryan: "Just wait untill I get out of here, you will regret this!"
With all the pirates cleared out of the harbour, the officers gather to congratulate themselves.

General Montcalm: "It seems that was all of them. I can't understand how it got this far, you people should have done a better job."
Admiral Wilkins: "My apologies general, but we did not have the manpower. Have you seen the size of some of their ships?"
Nelson: "The important part is that its solved now, and we need to keep it that way."
General Montcalm: "See that you do. Now if you will excuse me, I require a moment alone."

Nelson: "I would just like to congratulate you sir, you have done us a great service!"
General Montcalm: "Just doing my duty for King George. We can't have such ruffians make a mess of our beautifull cities. Now run along and prepare proper quarters for me in the city."
Nelson: "Yes sir."
Inside "the sword and cutlass" the pirate captain Alfonso seems to be waiting for him, not with a sword or pistol, but with a glas of red wine.

Alfonso: "Looks like you really cleared them out of here, you did not capture or kill many of them though."
General Montcalm: "All in due time. We have them on the run. My soldiers will hunt them down. Thank you for your coöperation. You have proven most valuable once more."
Captain Alfonso: "And so have you, together we stand strong. Your troops take care of my rivals, and my information secures your promotions."
In much less comforteable conditions, Ryan the Red, John the Falcon and Emily spend their time in prison.

John: "This is just the worst day.. first I got robbed, knocked out and now I wake up in prison too!"
Emily: "Something just isn't right. Those soldiers got here so fast. Someone must have helped them."
Ryan: "We need to work on a plan to get out of here! My ship is nearby, there is plenty of room for all three of us. Would you two like to join my crew?"
John: "Well if you can get us out of here, sure. I want to get back at Captain Grey's pirates for robbing me, but first we need to get out of here."
Emily: "Sure thing! I was not really part of any crew for a while anymore. It will be good to be out on the sea again."
Ryan smiles. "Alright! That's settled then! Now we just need to find a way to get out of here.."
But Leon has good ears, and can hear them plotting their escape!

Softly he whispers: "Psst! Hey there, you guys are thinking of getting out of here?"
The three of them get up and move to the bars.

Ryan: "Of course we are, anyone in prison would want to get out!"
Leon: "Right, but do you really have a ship nearby?"
Ryan: "It's right around the corner."
Leon: "Alright here is the deal.. with this general Montcalm chasing away all my poker buddies and forcing me to do more work than I want to, I want to get out of here. So I am going to let you guys out but I am comeing with you."
The three of them smile and Ryon accepts. "It's a deal!"

Leon opens the prison door and quickly they make their way to Ryan's ship.

Ryan: "A beauty, isn't she?"
Leon: "It's not very big."
John: "Where are the cannons?"
Emily: "No sleeping quarters on it either?"
Ryan: "Well I could not afford more, complain all you like but we are getting out of here on it!"
They step on board and prepare the ship for departure. Leon has his doubts though.

Leon: "I don't know about this.. Its a small ship, I don't think it can outrun the navy's ships."
Emily: "Come on, before they discover we are gone!"
But its already too late, it seems Nelson has discovered them!

Nelson: "Leon is helping the prisoners escape! Guards! Stop them! Don't let them leave port!"
Quickly they depart from the harbour, they are lucky enough to have the wind on their side as they exchange fire with the soldiers, and do their best to duck from flying bullets.

Admiral Wilkins: "They won't outrun my ship!"
He runs to his ship where he finds his marines.

Admiral Wilkins: "Hurry men! Prepare the ship! We are going after them!"
Marine: "But how? We don't know how to sail."
Admiral Wilkins: "What?! How is that possible?!"
Marine: "The sailors are having lunch, we where only trained to fight and not to sail ships."
And indeed, the crew is having soup for lunch.

Sailor: "There's nothing better than your tomato soup!"
First Mate: "You'd make a fine chef for sure! you need to teach me how to make that soup sometimes!"
Sailor: "I'd love to! It's the spices that give it extra flavour, and you need to have the right kind of tomatoes."
Sailor: "Hey I think there's some commotion there at the docks. Do you think the Admiral needs us?"
First Mate: "Nah It will be fine. We will go see what thats about after Lunch. Just make sure to save some soup for the Admiral."
Admiral Wilkins: "Darn, we can't persue them. My sailors are not here to man the ship!"

Nelson: "We will catch them eventually. We need to capture that traitor Leon and make an example out of him!"
Red Baron: "Leave that to me, I will track them down and bring them to justice!"
And so the four new friends make their escape, heading off to adventure with the soldiers unable to stop them.

Great episode tot he story. All the good(?) guys got away this time. That Captain Alfonso - he's a serious pirate, properly betraying people for his own gain. Makes yer heart be warm a thinkin' of it.

Great continuation, admittedly Leon looks like a bit of a shifty character, what with all his double crossing, but perhaps he will be a trustworthy partner. Looking forward to more! :)

Thanks! Might take a while untill the next adventure since currently I'm in no position to portray a treasure island or such. I'd love to get one of the island sets, but they are just so huge and take up more space than I can spare. But I might get some other nature stuff and may be able to build up something with that.

I have that one but its way too small to use to search for a buried treasure or something. ;)

I'd prefer something larger, to have maybe more of an adventure set on it. ;)
But for now I am returning back to medieval, and I am sure I can come up with something for these pirates that does not require a big island. Maybe something more on the sea and at another port could work.
But I can certainly see why there are not many pirate stories on the forum, some very beautifull diorama's though! It's quite challenging with trying to emulate a sea, and islands. And it just tends to work better when doing it indoors so it can be set up for a longer amount of time and the pictures can be taken over more days or even weeks.
But its nice to have these challenges and trying to overcome them.

Thanks! :) It did take a while but its fun to do! It's also nice that with pirates I have a bit more opportunity for female characters in action roles like Emily, unlike my usual medieval stories.

Great story Rhalius! Love the set ups. characters and dialogues! And, indeed, great to read a pirate story finally. You mentioned earlier you were planning a pirate story and I was very curious what it would be like. The harbour, the ships, the 'Sword and the Cutlass' the soldiers and the officers... you created the perfect atmosphere for a story like this.

The classic clickies where kind of a must to use to fill up the port since I really used every clicky here that could fit in and it still looked a bit empty. And since they where there I figured their experience should be shown.
