Title: 5067 - Vermeer's Milkmaid
Post by: tahra on November 02, 2014, 17:29:02
5067 - Vermeer's Milkmaid

This is a Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) promo - sort of a reproduction of a famous painting (https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/explore-the-collection/overview/johannes-vermeer) (Ok, so it's not just a yogurt brand. Learn and live :-[)

Fortunately, they like money, they can print an address for another country <GASP> and they had an online order service (https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/webwinkel/Kids/%27The-Milkmaid%27-Playmobil-?id=14490&lang=en) for the world. :wow:

Here's the original (pic from wikepedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Milkmaid_%28Vermeer%29)):

I have NO idea why they included that AWESOME "headbasket", since it really doesn't fit the breads, but hey, all good. I'd like a dozen of those baskets in brown.

The klicky is beautiful. The hair is the classic female hair, which it's not that common these days.

She has a nice mustard torso with printing - though I don't like that vertical line on the white part. Yes, I know the painting has something like it, but to me it looks like a scratch.

The skirt in stunning red brown, like the old lady crossing the street (set 3987). AND she has brown FLAT shoes.

I am not very fond of the headwear, but maybe it is closer to the original. I would prefer the "Katrina headwear" (set 3632). This is of course a matter of personal taste.

I love the sculpt of the pitcher, and also the bowl and jar.

I couldn't make the table cloth look half good. I think it should be square too, not rectangular.

As you can see, the box pic is deceiving - the table (a common western one) is a lot taller than it appears in the pic.

In all, a gorgeous little set

Haha they used some extensive photoshopping

Gorgeous indeed. The Rijksmuseum ships Playmobil internationally. It's a miracle!  :wow:

I have to praise the excellent service of Rijksmuseum. My milkmaids came within 4 days after ordering! And it's a very cute set!

It's a great set, I am actually planning to get it when its available in Dutch DS, cheaper that way since I can order other stuff and not pay shipping.

As for why they went with this particular hat, that design of hat was historically used a lot in the Netherlands, or at least similar designs where.

thanks Tahra for the review.

Its is one great looking set that I am eagerly waiting for. The line on the undergarment does look odd but it is in the painting. Now that you mentioned the table it makes the box art look comical

Great to hear that it came with the head basket, could use many of those for sure.

The only disappointment was that the actual milk in the promo picture was not a real part. I think it is lacking in this set, now that Geobra showed it.

What is REALLY lacking is an instruction sheet with the part number for that basket! >:D

Do you mean DS for The Netherlands?

I can't find it anywhere at Belgian DS.

Ah, I looked under medieval and history and didnt think to look it up under country.  :-[

Ordered two of them now.. two seems to be a good number.. all parts seem useable and with a change of wig and hat I'll have two more medieval peasant ladies that will probe very usefull.

Also ordered a set of three redcoats while at it.. Planning to do a pirate story and may need some more.

I ended up ordering three, which is more than I should have, but it'll be nice to have one for a custom since the colors are so nice.

Mine just came- Now I'm thinking I should have ordered four.

It looks like they sawed off part of the table legs for the photo.
