HEY!
There's an annoucement in all Playmobil FB pages.
#sharethesmile COMING SOON!
Anybody knows what is it?
All that start with # means twitter? My life is twitter-free, sorry I have no idea :P
???
-
No idea at all... perhaps instead of a free gift to you with purchase you can "share a smile" and send a free gift and catalog to a friend?... or send a virtual free gift to a friend to claim their own smiling figure and catalog? .... if so that would be a brilliant marketing campaign.
-
My feeling is it has to do with pictures.
Some instagram or tweeter thing uploading photographs but not a contest... no idea. Just guessing. :P
-
I saw that post on Instagram as well, it's a very cryptic message.

That is a very good guess, probably most likely what this whole #ShareTheSmile event is about. A Playmobil photography contest in which contestants share their pictures via hashtags on social media.
-

I don't have instagram either, but good to know it's there too. I think we're not far from truth then ;D
-
Yeah, the announcement was on twitter too. Sounds interesting... guess we'll have to wait and see!
-
Since my life is FB, Twitter & Instagram free, I would not have a clue I'm afraid :(

Same here. I hope whatever it is they also put it in the PCC and not just all this facebook , twitter :hmm:

I'm sure they will, especially since the same klickies used in the picture that has been shared in these announcements are also now on the front page of the PCC, replacing the old header.
-
Although i like the design of this "campaign" its a little weird to use the claim "share the smile" when releasing more and more klickies without the typical playmobil-smile at the same time.
On the other hand its nice to see geobra seems to remember their roots after all.

Found the trademark info... it could either be very interesting, or they could just be covering the bases.

Wow... sounds like it might be very interesting! Sounds like it may have to do with playmobil merchandise.
-
Thanks for all the updates on this mysterious campaign. To me it sounds like a marketing campaign that could have shirts, stickers, mugs, billboards and lots and lots of TV ads, wishful thinking I guess due to the non-existent marketing in the US .
I agree that "share the smile" is odd with all the angry klickies these days. Maybe they could follow up with "share the frown" or "share the anger" next.
anyways, looking forward to seeing what unfolds
-

According to that what is trademarked in fact is the name/phrase "share the smile", but it gives no clue of how it WILL be used or what the campaign is about 8}
As I understand it the trademark covers and expands to all things mentioned there, but it does not mean it will be used for all that (videos, mugs t-shirts etc)
I still believe the use of the word SHARE refers directly to social media formats, not merchandise. :-\
I'm stubborn

I think you're right. Unfortunately.

That's certainly more interesting!
-
And certainly most intriguing ;)
-
I don't see how it is that interesting - it's like tongello says - they just mention EVERYTHING. I don't think it's any indication that they actually plan to do those things, unfortunately (in a way!)

I suppose what was interesting to me was the image. When they go to effort to create an image like that (even though it's just a few words below their ordinary image), it means that something will likely occur. I'd agree with you lot that it's likely something online only though. :-\
-
I had another thought just now (because of LEGO actually, they do it AFAIK)
What if.... it is something about releasing sets or a special line created or inspired by fans submissions? (with acknowledgment of course) :cloud9:
-
I like your optimism ;D

I like your optimism ;D
 Ditto!

Me too. That'd be great, but I don't think that's what this is. :-\

bitten by the speculation bug :P it could be great things

I may try a silly guess there but what if it was only the brand new logo ;) ?
Playmobil, share the smile which is just what Tricornejock.com has done 5 years ahead of this creative team of geniuses
Only kidding, of course !

I don't know what Triconejock.com did, but I don't think it's a "just change of logo".
It's announced as an EVENT ... and the word SHARE is key. ;)

Agreed. Playmobil posted an entry into the PCC blog and in response to a user who asked what Share the Smile is, said "Still TOP SECRET! Stay tuned for more info during the next days...!". That was posted on Wednesday! :hmm:
They'd better hurry up with the grand reveal, the anticipation is killing me!
-
I think that it would be something similar to the play+give we have in Greece. Some special sets whose profits will fund an organization or similar...
-
Oh, so this is still a secret :)
I simply hope that the outcome will delight you Guys
-
On Playmobil's Instagram account today, an update was posted which stated that "40 years ago, PLAYMOBIL figures started to share their smile all around the globe! #ShareTheSmile and celebrate with us! - Save the date: Saturday, September 13". I'm beginning to think this is some sort of anniversary related exhibition. The reference to the 40th anniversary and the specific date suggest some sort of event will be hosted. :hmm:
-
That same post is on their Facebook page
-
Same at the PCC.
Weird that it starts on a Saturday.... ???
-
Found some info buried that says it will launch simultaneously in selected cities around the world on the 13th... I bet it will be demonstration and giveaway booths with stuff we will all want but not enough notice to get. Because that seems to be the way these things work :'(
-
Didn't see that...
Probably to their favorite clients then :(
-

The share the smile info is under the anniversary dates section... not much but I'm setting up for disappointment and hoping the pcc has our back... fingers crossed.

Hope not! Not only I'll be disappointed but pretty angry too, for it will not be for EVERYONE! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

But not surprised.
-
Are you guessing it will be a social network event and the pcc will be overlooked?
-
What I am guessing is that it will be a physical event with giveaways and demonstrations t-shirts, klickies, etc but that it will only take place in a few places (mostly german, though perhaps alsos Paris, London and nyc ) and that unfortunately items probably won't be made available to collectors but once again just to random people on the street who happen by the event booth and really don't care at all about the product. Yet another display of failed marketing to not give advanced notice or make product available... but I hope I'm wrong.

Some thing like the blue horse :-\ I hope not, again ::)
-
It is also announced in Greece. It says stay tuned, Saturday in the afternoon...

Agreed!
I hope it's something that we the fans can actually get instead of a lucky few

Well... and I guess you were right. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
Announced in Facebook. "From Berlin to Ciudad de Mejico come share the smile with us" with a nice backdrop of iconic buildings of cities like Paris, NYC, etc.
I don't see B.A.
I'm tempted to say "Thank you Playmobil for being so thoughful and democratic with your fans and collectors" in advance, but I just won't... just in case. >:( >:( >:( >:(
;)
-
But at the PCC it says that we have to ceck the PCC webpage, FB, Instagram and... another one I can't remember now, Twitter maybe?
THIS IS WHY I HATE SURPRISES!! :hmm:
So, Im confused 8} 8} 8} 8} 8}
-
Don't see anything. I wonder what's the point of that site. Stuff I "like" and "follow" doesn't show up on my "timeline thing". But all sorts of other useless junk does.
Anyways, is there a list of cities somewhere? Cause (typically) I didn't find it. :-[
-
Facebook just says:
"From Berlin to Madrid and Mexico City - join us in celebrating #PLAYMOBIL's 40th anniversary and #ShareTheSmile!"
But since there is a picture of older style clickies (in blue, yellow, green or gold) that have a sticker around their leg with a tag saying "Playmobil - share the smile" and how to pronounce 'Playmobil' and the company's details...
...these clickies will get distributed Saturday afternoon, at certain locations, around the world? Paris, NYC, Berlin... does anybody recognise any other buildings in the background? ;D
-
Right.
I wonder if they will make them available at the pcc.... But not having much hope.
-
Well if Antwerp or Brussels are involved, I'll try to get you one in every colour, I promise ;D
If they are gifts, to be handed out, I think they'd be reluctant to put them in the Special PCC Sale and charge money for them afterwards.
You know what I think is extremely weird? On Facebook there's a contest by Playmobil to win giant clickies, you know, the ones that are impossible for the company to sell to collectors, because they're not up to proper safety standards.
Did I miss something?

Repeat - (most of) the only people who are interested don't have access to him. Who else would be interested in a plain old klicky with a tag?

I think we all did.
I mostly quit TRYING to understand them. Better not to waste my poor old braincell on it. It's beyond understanding.
-
So the PCC says the cities are Berlin, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Paris, Madrid, Athens, Princeton (USA), Mexico City.
No Belgian location, alas. :(
-
well I didn't expect Buenos Aires to be in the list, but what about LONDON???? Nowhere in the UK? :hmm:
No NYC either but the statue of Liberty is shown in the ilustration....
No offence, but Princeton and Warsaw? what the heck? are there PM factories near these cities?
some are wondering if there'll be a second round of cities though, later in the year....
If not, it's a bit funny how the company loosly decided to use the term ALL AROUND THE WORLD. ;)
Bitter much? yep!
-
Very disappointed that I was right.... perhaps they will update the ds figure pack to be a set of these giveaways? I doubt it but I sure hope these will be available... even though I'm technically close enough to one of the cities, I can't drive three hours to Princeton on Saturday to go see about it either... I have three kids and we do have lives outside of playmobil.. maybe if they had given us a month's notice... but not three days notice.... grrr
-
No offence, but Princeton and Warsaw? what the heck? are there PM factories near these cities?
Yeah... I had to look up Princeton to even see where that is. ??? There are 24 towns by the name of Princeton in the US, but I'm assuming they mean the one in New Jersey. There are very few US cities you can refer to without specifying which state, and Princeton isn't one of them unless perhaps you are from the immediate area. ::) I think Mexico City is actually closer for me.
-

So few.
well I didn't expect Buenos Aires to be in the list, but what about LONDON???? Nowhere in the UK? :hmm:
Same here.
Oh well. Suppose we will have to hunt them on ebay later...
-
I believe the US distribution centre for Playmobil is located near Princeton, although still, that's an odd decision. It is indeed baffling as to why cities such as London and New York were left out. Even Toronto, although that's just some wishful thinking on my part. Oh well, no chance that I'll be able to attend any of the events. :(
-
I'm not sure what the point of this even is...why such a big build up for an event that for so few. It just seems such a misguided waste of effort (and klickies) on their part. Not really sure what handing out basic klicky's to random people who happen to be in the mystery places in those 8 cities at starting at some mystery tim on Saturday will accomplish.
Princeton, NJ????
I'm actually going to be in Philadelphia that afternoon which is only an hour away but probably not until mid-to-late afternoon. Plus we are already driving from Washington DC to a Strasburg, PA and then to Philadelphia. I don't think I can convice DH that we should then drive to NJ.
-
Oh boy, the collectors who went sure had a few things to say to the pcc. Looks like the event was "share the frown"
My suggestion to the pcc was that if geobra truly wanted to share the smile all over the globe they could have deputized their most loyal fan base ,who happen to be in every major city, and had them "share the smile" similar to "random acts of kindness" that radio shows do.
Lots of PR hype and no pudding.
It was a great idea, all they need is to learn how to deliver.
-

Hi Rasputin! Where did you see those comments? I looked for them at the PCC but didn't see anything. ???
-

From the PCC home page, the "blog posts" or whatever those are.. Flop in Madrid. Probably the info didn't take in account the time difference?
-
Thanks, tahra!
As usual, the PCC forum is soooo easy to navigate. Or, to quote playmymobile from the PCC, "<sarcasm>Very good!</sarcasm>"
-
<confused> So what was this malarky then? A give-away of klickies in a few select locations (FOUR of them in Paris)? Underwhelming! </confused>

Tim Shares The Smile in Mexico City :)

So, the clickies were put together as a sort of domino to form different shapes? And then people could just take all the free clickies they wanted?
-
Ha, that's a cool display. I'd like to know more details too. :)
-
It looks really neat if you were one of the people doing the show.mi think geobra should use collectors all over the globe to do many of these neat art projects. I just checked out the photo album at the pcc link.
-
Yeah, I'm still confused as to exactly what this event was. ??? It actually looks kind of cool, though it would have been better if it were in more cities.
-
So, the clickies were put together as a sort of domino to form different shapes? And then people could just take all the free clickies they wanted?
Yes, essentially it was like this. Subsidiaries in each country hoped the event became viral in social networks and eventually would catch press attention I guess. Photos will be uploaded in PM Facebook official page soon.
Most of participants in Mexico City were fans and collectors. There were bunches of seven different figures (1974 mold) in the event here although the Klicky Welt forum shows nine in Berlin. I will show photos of mine later. In the meanwhile, two more photos of Tim sharing the smile:

-
I see! Thanks for explaining, VicKlicktor :) And for sharing the pictures of course, it looks cool!
-
So we're certain collectors contacted by geobra to host this event? I also thought that the red knight could not be made in large numbers due to the old mold being worn out. The wrists rotate so this can not be the 74 mold, right?
-

You are right, I would say "1974 style" then. In Mexico, the organizers were the subsidiary employees, even the director, which was appreciated by collectors because we felt this was the first time Playmobil Mexico gave us some attention.
We got fun, meet and share with other collectors, celebrating the 40th anniversary. At the end, this was the real reason for the event. :yup:
In Madrid and Mexico City there are some complaints because some people grabbed tens of figures while some others just one or two. So, let's see what the price in ebay will be in some time. I could get the six shown below.
All figures have the event label and a QR code in the back. The golden one is special for the event. I have all the girls but I missed the green, all blue and red males :(. I have to check if the nine figures were available in Mexico City but I think only seven.
There is a link in the German page: http://smile.playmobil.com/

-
They're so nice.. thanks for posting :)
Ebay hunting is a must, I suppose!
-
Thanks for the news on the event. Now to get geobra to fully understand "share" and this event could be done all over the globe as promised. It looks and sounds contagiously fun. The pcc team though already alluded to all the legal obstacles so fingers tightly crossed.
-
I really love the klickys with the QR codes on their backsides. That's really quite funny. What does the QR code take you to, the Playmobil website? I want one to make into a keychain and I can whip it out and have people scan it when I'm trying to explain to them what playmobil is.
-

It would also be really handy to give these out at train shows for the same excellent purpose, in the US at least.
-
Yeah, definitely! Or for those who have kids, if you're having a kids party, you could put them in the favor bags. Or you could slip one in free with each purchase at a garage sale. Those things have definite possibilities.
-
Thank you for the pictures, what a nice assortment of vintage klickies. I would certainly love to get my hands on some of those. Admittedly, the event sounds like a great deal of fun, even if it was rather poorly advertised and some of the locations at which it was held were puzzling. :-\
An interesting video was posted on the Playmobil YouTube channel which offered a bit of a "behind-the-scenes" look at the event.

I'd love to have these guys around to give out when people ask about me keychain, or the 5 foot guy I've got on my porch, or at halloween with the candy... I sometimes give out dozens of magazines to people each year and it would be nice to have these fellows to pass out.

It would be so cool if I could buy bags of these to pass out at halloween - with or instead of candy.
-
Is there anyone that got 1 or 2 (or 3) of the 'share the smile' figures?.. That may be able to mail me?.. I would LOVE to put them in stockings this year for our 3 boys.. We didn't have an event near us in Canada. :(
