Title: Egyptian ship canopy as stand-alone stall?
Post by: moreorless on May 13, 2014, 09:47:12
I am on the lookout for ideas for small Roman/Egyptian-looking civilian pieces for my 5yo daughter who is obsessed with the period (inspired manipulated by her Playmobil-loving mother...).

Does anyone know if the Royal Ship of Egypt's canopy (ie the tent roof with four poles) can be used as a stand-alone piece? Or does it need some kind of a base to place the poles in for stability? I have seen it used as a market stall in Birdie's lovely Roman harbour town diorama, but can't quite determine its stand-alone potential from the pictures...

It has 4 poles that click to the sides of the canopy and are all the same length so, yes, it can stand by itself.

You're welcome! I would love to be able to create authentic scenes like that, but I lack the time not to mention the skills... Also, I have to restrain my desire to indulge myself in big Playmobil setups, as I only buy for my daughter, and I think she enjoys her Playmobil world precisely for its randomness and incompleteness...  Hence the ship canopy which will probably have a multitude of uses in her various conceptions of ancient times  :)
