Title: A lovely day to drive a train

It was a beautiful day to drive a train. The train is a mixture of Playmobil and LGB wagons.

Entering the water tower, the engine driver leans out of the locomotive.

A water stop is ideal to grease the coupling rods.

A lovely day, indeed, and quite unlike here - dull, cold and misty.

Great photos and I hope there are more to come from the day.

It's time to take water, heat up the fire and grease the coupling rods!

A happy engine driver. As volunteer he gets the opportunity to drive this old steam locomotive.

Thanks for more great photos of your trains.

I see you're running the tank engine with a tender, something I'm planning to do, maybe with the coal load on the tank engine removed.  I bought a damaged Western loco tender, complete with motor for £11 off eBay last year.  It needs a bit of repair work where it's been broken and repaired and a coat of black paint after that, but it was still a bargain for the motor alone.

I am using a LGB Toy Train tender that has no extra motor, but does have a sound module. It is available in green and black. If you buy it, mount the front coupling a hole forward, because Playmobil trains has two buffers and LGB trains only one. Or else you get stuck in the first curve you encounter.

Thanks for the tip about the buffers.  I use the occasional LGB truck or carriage, but have never had any probelms, but I can see the tender would be different.

I have a steam sound unit which is affected by the power the train uses fitted in a goods van.

On 23 August 2014 I visited the Millstone Garden Railway in Mill, Noord Brabant, The Netherlands. It is a huge layout and driving a full circle took me 5 minutes.

That looks amazing! The bridge and the miniature surroundings... I'd certainly like to visit this place one day.

The layout is privately owned and is not open for public. I have made an appointment with the owner to visit his garden layout. All the bridges are made from aluminium profiles, one is from LGB and there is one bridge made from concrete. The miniature electrical poles are working and are used to light the houses and lanterns. Houses are from Pola, Piko, Playmobil or made from concrete. Some houses and pedestrian bridges are made from wood, but these will be replaced. It is difficult to protect them against the weather. The track layout is simple: it is a single line track with three passing loops and one small industrial yard. Sometimes the owner uses his live-steam locomotive to run over the tracks.

Schaut mindestens so gut wie die Bilder oben aus, Euer Garten! As good as the layout shown before, I'd say!

It is a mix of LGB and Playmobil, but still a fine combination to see. Sadly it is the second to last driving day this year. After this weekend the caravan goes into maintenance, before my parents go on holiday to Germany. I wanted to drive more often, but in June there was too much rain.
