Title: Samurais!
Post by: cowabounga on March 16, 2014, 20:54:15
Hi folks!
I have already posted the first picture on my 3D Printing thread, but that was two/three weeks ago, and I didn't get any reply before tonight (thank you AgeOwns!  :)).
So, here are my latest; the samurais. I have been working on those for quite a while now, and with Master Cheng's help, I have improved my models and made new ones.

First of all, the typical samurai hair cut, with the braid pulled up. The kimono folds are made with Master Cheng's technique, using PVC tape/stickers.

Then a fighter from the Tokugawa clan, wearing a Happuri Mempo (face mask) and a wakizashi through his belt.
(http://i762.photobucket.com/albums/xx266/cowabounga/file_zps275ef173.jpg) (http://s762.photobucket.com/user/cowabounga/media/file_zps275ef173.jpg.html)

A warrior with a Jingasa (cone shaped helmet) and the re-released legs from the Wella prince.
(http://i762.photobucket.com/albums/xx266/cowabounga/file_zps1257c106.jpg) (http://s762.photobucket.com/user/cowabounga/media/file_zps1257c106.jpg.html)

A fighting monk with a (huge, maybe slightly too big) straw/wicker hat, and the Yari I made with PM parts (shaft from a lance and a roman gladius blade).
(http://i762.photobucket.com/albums/xx266/cowabounga/file_zpsf7eacbf6.jpg) (http://s762.photobucket.com/user/cowabounga/media/file_zpsf7eacbf6.jpg.html)

Hope you like them. They'll be in a diorama in October in Paris, I'll show you pics then.

I would also like to thank Hadoque and Eric for their help in getting the arms with puffy sleeves. Guys, you can order those from the DS!!! :woohoo:

Very cool! I like the fighting monk especially - I don't think the wicker hat is too big. Somehow the texture looks perfect for it, too.

Despite their smiles they all look ready to fight. Wonderful job you did to them!

I must be dumb-founded or quiet with jealousy...but neither

Arnaud, you have made those changes and I'm without constructive criticism for once or have any unsolicted advice for these.

You also seem able to paint them quite well now that youve made their surfaces smoother.
The first price goes to the top-knotted skull...(I can only hope Geobra makes one such Fi?ure someday)...the flesh colour is so so matching.....Sensei-Arnaud....ICHIBAN DESU!

Fantastic customs!  Great use of existing and non- existing parts! Love them all but I think the one in the white kimono (pic 1) is my favourite

Very nice your Samuari look ready for action  :), nice work painting the sword blades. The hat on the Fighting Monky looks good as others have said very good texture but, that Samurai headpiece for me it just looks the buisness much better than my rather crude attempt at a bald head by slicing the bandanna off and painting some hair lines in  :-[

MAGNIFICIENT photo....its like from a samurai movie....a small army going through main street of a small vilage...and those Trojans etc are the village folks.....and btw, your pole weapons are beautifully painted and if I have a Fi?ure choice...it would be the blue samurai  thanks, you make me want to make some more samurai again!

Yes! Mission accomplished!  :)

My favourite so far is the dark green rider. I plan to attach a helmet to the pin at the rear of his saddle.

Hey guys and girls!
A big update after this long holiday! Some are still WIP, and there's also a project at its early stage.

First a big banner. As my ashigaru and samurais won't be wearing sashimonos, I've decided that they would wear the mon of their Daimyo on their armor and helmets. But I need at least one of these huge banners on each side of the battlefield. Besides this banner carrier, are two ashigaru with custom-made Yaris: a roman gladius blade glued to a wooden stick. Those will eventually be painted black for the Tokugawa clan, and red for the Takeda.

Now some ashigaru and samurais:

The big project now, the wadaiko, the huge war drum of Japan. Actually it wasn't so often used for war, but I wanted one of the sides to have one.

It's still rough, I will use white paper in the end, and the drummer will wear white underwear.  :hehe:

WOOOOOOHH!!!! I'm totally jealous with rage ;D
from the looong flag to the looong bows (not to mention all those weapons and headwears!)
to the drum and drummer!! (I bought the drum stand before the drum was re-released and almost begged Tahra for a big drum  but never go around to finishing it....B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!!)

I wonder if any Japanese PM collector is watching? can he/she say something :D
...I often wish Geobra would consider lauching something for the Asian collectors and take the huge market here by storm....I know there's always that worry of counterfeits, still, other businesses, from hanphones to cars, still feel its worth the risk and face the challenge instead of fearing it.

:o Those customs are pretty spectacular!!

That mouth piece on the red warrior, is it of your making too? It's awesome. I love the banners and spears, and all those detailed arm pieces.

Do you think Geobra will ever do a fat speedo dad clicky? Cause that would work even better  :)

Thanks ladies!
You're both right.
@Tahra: there's no room or a wig under that golden helmet.
@Birdie: shoulder pads is OK, there's a Japanese word for every little piece of armor, but I don't know them all! Master Cheng probably does know some though.

Eh eh! Told you so, guys! Master Cheng is amazing, he's a walking encyclopedia!
Thank you my friend.
Those belts are actually rubber bands. I don't know if this madness has already reached Malaysia (or already left), but here in Europe, every kid has one or ten rubber band bracelets. The interesting point is that they come in dozens of colours, even with gold or bronze tones.
I use two for one samurai, one to hold the wakizashi, and the other underneath to keep it straight up.
PM me if you need some…

Hadn't thought of that! I am SO SICK of that freaking junk! On the down side, I suppose they will not last..

Can you believe my friend's son wanted THAT for his bday? GAH. He's getting the blue bag knight.  :P  There ARE limits.
