Little project within a project: my Victorian town is welcoming a circus :)
These are some pictures of the big parade in the street.

The hotel guests are curious too:

That was it for the parade. The yellow Romani circus is gorgeous too, but that blue one is precious to me. It's older than I am, and I've played with it soooo many times when I was little
I haven't done the circus show yet. I'm still waiting for some crucial parts and I'm still wondering how to go about the lighting (preferably colored lights or something). If anyone has suggestions, that would be most helpful.

Lovely! Beautiful parade and you've set them up so realistic. So looking forward to the show. I'm curious what your crucial parts are. I allready saw the great big elephant!
Also brings back memories.
I got that circus for my eight birthday (1981) and sold it when I was thirteen. My mom had told me not to, but I wanted the money for a radio. Years (1998) later I told her she was right, and she bought me a 'new' one. I still love love to play with it.

2x :)9
I look forward to the Magician's part of the show in particular.
Thank you for not crossing my sacred corner.
-
Great parade! I like the way the tent looks with the blue ring. For lighting you could use colored Christmas lights.
-
That's awesome, really great dio!
-
Wonderful parade with great details. As I looked through your photos, I had the tune "The Entry of the Gladiators" going through my head all the time! You can listen to it here as you go through the photos:

Great pics, again
The one of the boys on the varanda is especially well posed... You can really see them stretching to see
(and that acrobat's braid is also very well trained :P )
Now I'm also curious with the show... though my love of circus is long gone - don't think that applies to the playmoversion.
-
That's great such brilliant photos of the parade and the crowd really captures the excitement and anticipation particularly the first photo and the one of the boys on the blacony. I really like the uniform of the Grenadier Guard and the guy and girl holding the tiger oh yes and the guy with the sandwich board's great as well the only guys I don't like are the old ones with the white faces like Michael Jackson sorry but they give me the creeps.
-
Very cool!! Great parade. I love the action shots. Makes me want to dig out my circus crate.
-
Wonderful set up with lots of eye catching details, Birdie! Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

Great action shots, and nice touch on the wood shavings in the ring.
As Tim has suggested Christmas lights, we had very tiny LED ones on twoAA batteries that were a great scale. We found them at a discount store for a few dollars each and they were at least 18-24 inches long.
-
Great stuff. This reminds me of the film Little Nemo! :)
-
This is awesome!! Wonderful diorama with great pictures and very nice scenes.
There are moments I wish I could be a klicky and to walk with my figures inside my diorama!! I have that feeling right now!! I want to walk into your town with your playmobil!!!  Excellent job Birbie, congrats. Many thanks for the sharing.
George. :)

Wonderful diorama. Great atmosphere !
-
The circus fits well into the Victorian aera. Ver nice pictures, Birdie. I like the little details, e.g. you have customized a fairy to blend in the circus folks.
Cheers,
HDL

Beautiful diorama, Birdie! Didn't know your collection is that big! Great atmosphere indeed and a lot of lovely details. Thanks for sharing

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your comments.
As I looked through your photos, I had the tune "The Entry of the Gladiators" going through my head all the time! You can listen to it here as you go through the photos:

I've had that tune in the back of my mind too ;D It's perfect. Thanks for the link!
Now I'm also curious with the show... though my love of circus is long gone - don't think that applies to the playmoversion.
Because of the treatment of animals in circuses? Couldn't agree more, I never even wanted to see a real show with animals because I think it's completely brutish. But well, so was Western or medieval life, but in my plastic Playmoworld, it's another matter.
The circus fits well into the Victorian aera.
Thank you! I was a bit worried about that, because some items just don't seem to match. I changed the wheels of the trailers and left out modern bits from the circus tent, but some details escaped me. For instance, I just realised the picture on the billboard depicts a human canon ball... with very modern helmet ;D
This reminds me of the film Little Nemo! :)
I had to look this up, because I hadn't heard of it before. I'm watching some of the movie right now, it's sooo cute  I just saw the circus parade part (and he has a squirrel, LOVE it!). :munch:

Yes the scale would be pretty important. I'll have to find some of those...
the only guys I don't like are the old ones with the white faces like Michael Jackson sorry but they give me the creeps.
 I've heard people say that before, but I don't see it. Every circus needs a pierrot :)

Yes, exactly... But, same in my playmoworld - NOBODY is unhappy. ;)
Still, we do have some problems with those sets.. Worse with the monks and nuns. Have NO idea what to do with them. Tuck says whatever it is, the barrels are his. :P

Great entry.

Oh, I love this so much! It lifted up my mind for the whole day!
Thank you!

Yes, haha! Icarus. It's a fantastic film. I'm glad that you like it.

I keep coming back to these photos for another look as there is always something new to see/discover!! Amazing.
-
This is absolutely DIVINE
Everything is so cheerful and bright just like a Circus Parade should be !
There are so many enchanting détails and one can appreciate the care you put in the setting up but also the joy you took in creating this beautiful diorama :cloud9:

I love the work that you put into making this! It looks really good

Thank you everyone, for taking the time to watch the pictures and for all the kind comments.
It's so much more fun to be able to share projects like this, with people who love Playmobil too. To my friends and family, my hobby is a 'weird part of my personality' :)
The bearded bodybuilder (set 3728) is arriving on Monday or Tuesday, but I've had no luck in search of the perfect tiny coloured Christmas lights. Who wants Christmas lights at the end of January, right?
-
It is a very creative part of your personality. A great talent I think. I love your creations. Cherish it!
Maybe you can find another all year round christmas-shop closer but this one I found:
www.Kerstwinkel.nl
Good luck!

Thank you for your help Sunflower. I did check the site and it had regular Christmas lights, but I was hoping to find some lantarns or small coloured LEDS to add to the realism. Something like this:
I only found them over the internet, and it would take a lot of time and money to get them.
Then I went to my local miniature train shop and the guy laughed at me for not knowing how to string regular mini-lights together and connect them to a commutator. He even assumed I did not own a train set myself - being a woman and all. I ended up intimidated and bought tiny coloured LEDs and connectors and a piece of wire (he sold me a pink wire, because 'nobody wants to buy that', and told me to strip it with my teeth).
I came home and found out my LGB commutator had too much voltage for the stupid tiny LEDs anyway. So I decided to use my regular Christmas lights, get on with my circus show project and never go to that store again :-[
I posted the pictures of the 'Victorian Circus Extravaganza' ( ;D ) at the storytelling part of the forum:

Lovely! My favorite section is the two pictures of the children on the stoop and the balcony. One little boy is so excited he's climbing the rails - that little detail just absolutely makes the picture and says a lot of story and personality.
You must have been collecting for a while to have all these Victorian-era children like that drummer. My Victorian town seems strangely devoid of kids since I started fairly recently and keep getting outbid in ebay.
ETA: I'm a boy and everytime I talk to a clerk at the train store re wiring stuff they all sound like Charlie Brown adults: wokowokowoooowoo (that's all I hear ;D ). So now I just use Photoshop to add colored lights as needed. No wiring and I can "Save As" many different colored versions.

Thanks :)

Yep, I got most sets of my Victorian collection when I was a kid and my main focus was always the clicky children. I customized them a lot, and 'butchered' some of them in the process - a bit of a pitty.

Nice to hear it's not just me :) I do plan to upgrade my Photoshop skills. I've become better at the diorama and picture making stuff over the years, mainly thanks to this forum and trying out other people's creative solutions.

Impressive works and lovely pictures , very well taken , so nice to see a big complete set up with lots of klickies and old Victorian stuff. your set up is a great homage to one of the best series playmobil ever made
