Title: Question about Stone Age
Post by: nunney on January 09, 2014, 22:41:43
Does anyone here know whether the Stone Age theme went through the usual cycle of deletion and sale pricing on U.S. playmobil? The reason I ask is that after a little break from playmo I was surprised to see it suddenly completely disappeared from the U.S. site even as it remained available in other territories and even as the Stone Age family add on was just coming out. It was an admittedly esoteric theme that perhaps lacked 'playability' for some but I was intrigued by it and meant to pick up a few sets.

When I spoke with a Playmobil sales rep in December, I was told it was entirely unavailable, referred to ebay and  and told not to expect it to be available officially for several years (presumable as DS add ons to move old stock).

Yes, it seemed to have just suddenly disappeared. It never went on a discontinued or last chance sale. I was pretty upset there was no warning, as I still wanted to get the big cave set and just hadn't managed to afford it yet. I hadn't prioritized it because I thought I had time left.

Unfortunately some themes they never discount. Instead they sell them of to discount resellers. Stone Age turned up in some I know later this last year. I was hoping they would discount Future Planet but it's off the site now and not showing up in the discount categories yet. Probably end up at discounters eventually then. Personally I think they should try marking them down on the website a while before sending them off. I do notice that a lot of modern themes are 25% off right now. Hopefully some things will turn up in the sale categories at Playmobil.us in the next month.

It's too bad. The line was beautiful and had great potential. I really like the sets that I bought. The various characters can make cool barbarians :)
Perhaps the potential of that line wasn't seen by either the kids or their parents.

I liked that theme as well. The klickies were nice and usuable in other themes. I have been wanting to get the add-on pack so I am glad it finally made it to the US. I know I liked how it looked but did not play with them and neither did the boys. I was disappointed in the animals designs, not the look but the way they designed them. I know I would have liked them better if the tigers mouth opened and the mammoths were articulated, and had weight like the elephants. We have used parts and animals from every set in many other themed dioramas. I never was disappointed in any purchase. I would continue buying them if they showed up on sale or auction, even used.

I am holding out hope they will show up somewhere like Tuesday Morning really cheap.

It did look very nice, but it can be a bit limited in playability perhaps.

Maybe they should have combined it with the dinosaurs theme? Could be a good match up.

Only sticking to medieval and pirates myself so there was never any use for me for these sets. Just one of the many stuff I do like the look of but simply dont have space and money for.

And I gues many of us might have found other sets worth more the investment.. themes you already have stuff of.

I wanted to use the Stone Age theme to play the popular game "sticks and Stones".
