Can't find the list of sets which are being discontinued in 2014 here on Playmofriends, it has been available on Klickywelt-forum since early november...

Some conclusions:
* Western is almost completely gone, except for the Fort and the Wagon.
(there will be a new blister-set released this month)
* Knights-theme gone...
* Pirates-theme is heavily reduced (Treasure-island, Redcoat-fortress, Redcoat-canoneer, Pirate/Redcoat-blister, RC-schooner gone)
* Fire-brigade theme is also gone.
* Chistmas-theme gone as well.
These are all classic themes which are being discontinued or heavily reduced all at once. I can't imagine they will all get replacement-sets in the same year. So, I'm guessing Knights will get a big renewal, but that themes like Pirates and especially Western will become (ultra)-limited.
* Blisters Count & Countess and Vampires are already discontinued.
* The 4 Asia-Dragon Packs are already gone after about 6 months, as are some of the Fairy-sets.
Note: all these sets are discontinued in 2014 in Germany and homemarket-countries (Benelux, Österreich, Scandinavia,...) and in 2015 for the export-markets.

Just had a look at the belgian online-shop...
The discontinuation has already been executed and almost every "history" theme (except Princess) got the axe :'( ;
Knights are completely gone, Christmas completely gone, Noah's Ark gone, Western almost completely gone, Pirates 50% gone, even the newest Asia-Dragon theme already lost 4 sets... What are they doing?! ??? 8}
The 1st half of 2014 brings no new historical sets, except for the 4 tournament-knight bags...
Second half 2014 will better be super-awesome or it will be a dreadful 40th anniversary (except for modern theme / City Life fans) !

Yes I am in disbelif of the discontinued sets and how much it cuts into the core themes. I too think there has to be a big line up for the 2nd half of 2014.
There seems to always be knights & rescue so I could not see them not doing new ones.
I am now in need of getting all the new dinos and train themes and lots more western before they are gone.

Some of these haven't even pop up in Canada yet.
The Falcon and Lion knights have been around for a while now, so I'm not surprised to see them go.
I'm sure they'll have something to replace them and continue the medieval theme.

Same with the US. I do hope they make it here at all now. To cut these after just one year is making it hard to prioritize purchases. Some are even less than a year it seems.

I was thinking the same thing... I wonder if some of these sets will make it to the US. The WWF sets, the mountain with the mountain goats and marmots, I really want those. I have the WWF okapi set thanks to a playmofriend who helped me get it, but I was hoping to get the others, too.

I bet they do make it to the States. We'll know soon enough.
But remember: Amazon.de ships Playmobil to the United States. Not only do they already have prices below retail (often 10-25% off), but shipping is cheap ($10-$15 often) and they take an additional 18% off since Americans don't pay VAT.

Thank you for the list, Hadoque, that's quite a clear out. I'm not surprised that the fire theme is going as it is about five years now since the new models were introduced. I think I heard somewhere that the new fire engines will be smaller, reflecting the change to smaller fire engines in real life. I guess they will be based on the ambulance body or something similar.
As for whether the items being discontinued will reach the rest of the world, the answer is that of course they well in this coming year.

I gues it makes sense they are wittling down the pirate sets a bit since they have released some additional pirate sets. The remote controlled pirate boat and lately a small pirate ship and carrying case as well.
But the western sets.. that really is too soon. is it really selling that badly? I thought it was doing quite well.
Knights theme will definatly be renewed later this year I hope, and I really really want something different than just castles, soldiers, knights and rediculous siege machines.
They should at least try something very different for a castle if they do design one. Not all castles had grey stones and red roofs.

The Saint-Nicolas (with Black Petes) and Christmas themes are usually not available in shopracks in toystores throughout the year, but they used to be available every day from Playmobil's official webshops. So their disappearance indicates they are discontinued.
Hopefully the themes come back in a new version, but I fear somewhat for the Saint-Nicolas Theme because all the controversay about the Black Petes in The Netherlands the past year...

The latest overhaul of the Pirates Theme was in the summer of 2011 (home-market countries) and 2012 (export-market), so that is just 2,5 years of availability of the sets that now just have disappeared. The castaway-pirate was already discontinued last year. Okay, we got the RC-schooner near the summer of last year, but that one is now discontinued as well after only about 6 months (it was a "limited edition"... a very limited one it seems).
That new little pirates' boat with black skullsail is the 10th version or so of the original 4444.
The new Pirates' Carry-case is sized like those they started to use last year; at least 1/3rd smaller then the older carry-cases.
Both those sets have little content, and mainly recycled parts / figures. They look like they were designed as cheap US exclusives for Target stores or something...
The Pirates and Western themes can now be put together as one theme on one page in the catalogue, with the last one just having the Fort and the Western Waggon as leftovers. ::)

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. Of course there's a lot of lions and dragons to be found in heraldry, it's just the designs that are not always very nice. Geobra did a good job with 2010 series of knights (lion and falcon and thus please more of that!), but 2004's lion and dragons were terrible. Same with the orange(!) falcon easter egg knight or the blue dragon knight of surpise figures series 5. The dragon seems to be taken from a tattoo catalog ;D It seems that different designers are creating different heraldic signs.

You're absolutely right about that.I too loved the 2010 heraldry, but they've made some hideous ones too, like the 2004 ones or the "howling wolf" one, now THAT's the worst ever, lol!!! ;)

Agreed about that howling wolf, definatly the worst heraldry they ever made. The red and green colors where a terrible combination as well.
I am just hoping they will be original with heraldry for the upcoming knights batch.
Which means no lions, dragons or falcons this time please. There are so many options possible.
Griffon, horse, castle, boar, eagle, a descent wolf heraldry, etc... just something different please. Otherwise they may as well remake one of the heraldries they did in the past. WOuld be cool if they reused the nuremberg heraldry.
