Title: Must share about a great deal I got from Craigslist :)
Post by: Theresse on December 20, 2013, 20:36:49
Hi All -

I'm so happy - I just had to share cause no one I actually really KNOW gets what a great deal this was, lol...

Every so often I look for PM deals on my local CL.  Here's what the ad said, and the ad said it was for $20.00 (at first I wondered if it was a typo):

"Collection of playmobil including castle (3666) and pirate brig (3288). Lots of extra characters and critters. Probably 95% of the parts from original and the rest are still under a couch somewhere. Some assembly required."

So I went and ALL of the castle itself appears to be there - and in excellent condition - as well as probably more like 99% of the accessories and probably all of the klickies.  We already own 3.5 of these castles (have combined them for one large one) so I've come to know all the parts pretty well as I'm sure many of us have. ;) There were also some castle-related smaller sets thrown in - also in excellent condition - including one of the jousting sets (not that oldest most coveted one with the viewing platform and all the people but the next one that came out I think) as well as a siege tower in perfect condition and lord knows what else...I haven't gone through the huge box yet!  Based on the extra klickies I'd say there's the castle extension in there probably as well.

TWENTY DOLLARS!  Can you imagine?!  I felt awful - so even though I still essentially robbed him, I threw an extra $20 in for the kid who had a look of pain in his eyes when I said "I hope your son's getting this money" and his dad looked guilty for not thinking of that!  He - the dad - said he just wanted the room back as the boxes were taking up space and his son's outgrown it.  Looks to me though like he barely played with it.  The son appeared to be about 12 or 13 years old.

There was no original box but original manuals/directions in pristine condition.  Crazy... I guess all that obsessive CL hunting (just for fun, most of the time!) pays off some of the time!

wow, do you have pictures? That sounds great and very nice of you to drop the extra 20 spot on the kid. Even at 12 years old 20 bucks is a big   :sparkle: MERRY CHRISMAS :sparkle:

Wow, that is a fantastic deal! How exciting! Very nice of you to give the kid another $20, too. They were his toys, after all.

One thing that is interesting is that last week a large lot of playmobil got listed in our area. The lot had a lot of stecks castle parts, a siege tower, and a whole bunch of modern things, like a plane and people etc...There was a lot of stuff in the big box. I immediately tried to contact the seller and while I was doing that a 2nd local collector contacted me to see if I could pick up the same lot but were waiting for responce back. It was so much playmobil that I guess neither of us were were first in line. It was $20 just like your castle lot. Then last night I just contacted a seller of a castle (3666 and the rock stecks castle) and a whole large pile of knights, wagons and accessories for $50. I am 2nd in line  :crossed: I doubt the 1st person will pass the great deal up.

So it must be pre Christmas "get rid of your kids 3666's" on the west coast thing going on. Now if I could just score one or two or three

There was one that showed up on my local Craigslist,  a 3666 plus other castle sets and a huge stack of weapons and klickies for $50. And I just bought just the castle off eBay for $130. I was so mad lol

Did you buy it anyway?  (You could always turn around and sell it or the one off Ebay (whichever was in the least pristine condition) and make your money back.)

That sounds like such a great deal even if you have already got the Castle loads of figures and smaller sets and as you say in great condition win win, poor kid though having his Dad giving away all his Playmobil at least his Dad'll hopefully give him at least some of the money or spend it on him I remember my Mum giving away some good toys when I was much younger including a Postman Pat with dreadlocks she kintted me which apparently I'd said I didn't like and my Playmobil Pirate Ship and Pirate Island 2 of the bets sets I ever owned  :(

Wow, that IS a lucky find indeed! Who knows, maybe there will be a merry men's feast in there?   :)
That was a sweet thing to do, with the extra 20 dollars.

On a toy fair in november I found a 5305 (small victorian mansion) in excellent condition for €45.
I was so happy
