Title: URGENT! Does anyone know how to change the battery in 4265 museum theft set?
Post by: playmofire on December 07, 2013, 11:50:01
I'm planning to sell a 4265 museum theft set tomorrow, Sunday, and have just discovered that the alarm no longer works.  Presumably the battery is flat so I've removed the base of the display case for the crown but can see no way of getting the old battery out and a new one in.  Can anyone help, please?

Sorry I can't help you... after removing the bottom panels on mine (I have three), I found they are empty. I remember now that I had Chris remove the components, and I don't know what he did with them. To me it would be a real plus not to have that stupid alarm that goes off every time you touch it or it shifts in the box. Maybe your buyer will feel the same way.

just pop off the base. You will see a slit on the base. Do not use the slit. Between the base and side wall, next to the slit wiggle a thin screw driver into it and pry the base off. It has two tabs  that are in line with the playmobil words. On one the "p" and the other is on the end with the "l"

Once you open it you will see how its all glued and sticky taped together

I do not think the battery was meant to be changed

only question is , why sell such a great little set? Doesn't your playmo town need a good museum for the international criminals and now that you publically announced that your alarm system is not working the NSA will sell the info to the highest bidder   :xmascheer:

Thanks, Ras.  I'd got the base off and that led to my post as to how.  I'm inclined to agree with you about it not being meant to be changed, in which case, why do Playmobil tell you what type of battery is used?

use a sharp razor knife  to cut the double sided foam tape on the speaker. then wiggle the speaker and mother board out. The switch board can stay in as the cords are long enough. How the battery comes out is ?

I think if you pry the 3 metal tabs on one side it should slip out. I would not mess with the soldered ends

Thanks, Ras, I'll try that if time permits before the sale.

BTW, don't forget I've got some PM bits here for you, including some of the old style, "tall" flashing blue light units for the police car.  If you remember, I was hanging on to them for you as I was planning another sale this year.  That sale won't now take place until next year (hopefully early on).  There will be some old 4x4 parts in it if these interest you.  Let me know.

Sorry cut the white tape on the speaker to the wall not the black foam from speaker to mother board, that's just a spacer

Yes I am interested in 4x4 car/truck parts. Missing loads of car parts especially windshields.

If you send me a PayPal account name to my PM box or Email I will send fund ASAP, but my ASAP is  8} We had a cold freeze here in California and I have broken pipes all around and a flooded apartment unit to deal with. Its in the dark AM here so I get to waste  time with playmo  <:>

Good luck with the battery  :xmascheer:

I'll sort everything out, including what you bought on last year's clear out and send you photos of the new stuff.

I suppose that you don't bother insulating water pipes particularly in California.

Is that covered under the homeowner's insurance, Ras? Hope so...
Me thinking of getting flood insurance because of all the run off water from the hills.

Anyway, freezing temperatures are pretty rare but this week was icy....

Cheers,
HDL

PS: Insulation of water pipes, Gordon? Need to get double-pane windows first....

We don't bother insulating pipes here in southern Louisiana, either. Just dripping the faucets the few times a year that it dips below freezing is enough to keep them from freezing.
