I just noticed the new 5238 RC Pirates Slooper (schooner to some ;D ), scheduled for release in about a week (17th May according to the PCC, iirc), has disappeared from Geobra's German and Benelux webshops... ???
When searching the sites with the setnumber nothing comes up either...
Being a pirates-freak, I immediately start speculating about this :-[ and so I'm now having these thoughts:
a) It is just a software glitch or an error within the webshop, which will be sorted out soon.
b) They've pulled the ship out of the shoplistings to have a last instance price-change, and it will be back after the weekend with a new sales-price.
(it was listed for about 55 euro in the Benelux shops, and "reduced" ( ::) ) from above 80 euro to also ca. 55 euro in the German shop.)
c) The release of this RC sloop(er)/schooner coïncides too much with the DS re-release in Germany this month of the white Navy Schooner, so the RC-one will be released much later as envisioned, for not having 2 very similar ships released almost simultaneously.
d) They've pulled the ship from the webshops, because during a last inspection they discovered a technical glitch with the RC-module. It will relisted / released once that glitch has been solved.
e) At the last moment, Geobra decided never to release this RC-ship

My guess is there's a production delay of some sort. Could be technical to the remote control unit, it's a relatively complex thing compared to the usual solid plastic parts.

I think it would be silly to delay it because of the other one. The structure is similar, but the look is different. And really, schooner vs. schooner naval battles :)9
I'm guessing production problem as well.

Any idea on what boat types the RC would fit? I guess Shooner types... But also the larger ships (all generation)?

It looks like it is designed to clip to anything the old underwater motor would clip to. So not just big ships but many of the speedboats and even Nessie.

Good luck with that; there is not one supplier / retailer that actually has one in stock.
I've read on KW that there are production problems (subsupplier issues) *, and Geobra completely deleting any reference to this ship on their offcial websites 1 week before the planned release-date is not a good indication I think...
*: personally I'm convinced that if the ship doesn't get released this month but does so at a later date, the June 1 re-release date in Germany for the white Navy schooner might also have something to do with it.

I raised the question in the PCC and sent them an email through the belgian website on friday, but no response yet...

Concerning the release date (which was announced as "early May"), in the PCC it now says "TBA" (To Be Announced) .... which is like with the items selected sofar for the Special Sales... I hope we won't have to wait as long as for those ::)
To my question about it's removal, they replied there - and on the German page of Frontofyourheadbook - that they don't know why the ship got pulled from the official websites and that they are still waiting for an answer from their colleages from the Sales Department.
edit: my best guess is there are production problems due to the quasi simultaneous release of 2 such ships but in different colours;
the white Navy Schooner - which has exactly the same shape - is due for release in German DS as set 6348 starting June 1...

Just checked around a bit on the web... Can't find a single store that actually has it. Some stores say the ship is "out of stock" before they even sold one...
Some like Mytoys.de and Amazon.co.uk mention a sales-start of 17th May, while Amazon.de mentions 17th June... ???

we had called playmobil. They have moved the release to 17th June. When its to long we can cancel your order. But we get it sure on the official release date.
What would I do? Do you have any idea on the pricing level it would become available in shops?
Now I paid 70 EUR incl. shipping... But if I need to wait then I can even buy it cheaper in the shop, right?

dd, when the ship was still listed on the Belgian official website, the price was about 55 euro. But on th the German official site it was first above 80 euro, and later on lowered to about the same price as on the Belgian site...
A German webstore that usually has good prices, lists it at 79 euro... ???
So I have no clue anymore what to expect as sales-price.
Btw, Playmobil still has not responded to my email from last week, neither have they given info yet in the PCC or on facebook.

I just checked the German Mytoys webstore, and there they have changed the release-date from May to September 2013! :o
So that is a 4 month delay! :(
Price there is 54,99 euro, which is with a 36% discount they say as the recommended sales-price would be 86,49 euro 8}

Reply by Playmobil to my question, today in the PCC:
"The delivery of the 5238 Pirates Ship with RC Underwater Motor has been postponed indefinitely for production reasons with regard to the bought-in parts. No retailers have been supplied yet."

I can't think of any other Playmbobil set that got pulled out the moment it should be released... Does anyone know of something like this happening before?

The PCC-team has announced the ship will become available in (German) stores soon!
New release-dates:
Germany: June 4th 2013
Austria, Benelux, Scandinavia and Switzerland: 2013 (no more details)
Other countries: 2014 (no more details)

This is now available in the fun park shop in zirndorf, at a much better price (55euro). I have just got back to the UK after two days there and have built it, it takes 12 AA batteries and I will now have to find somewhere to try this out.

I don't know how much they cost in Europe, but here 12 batteries are close to the cost of the ship!! :o :o :o :o
