Title: 1644-1912 westernisation of the Qing (last) Dynasty

Anyone can guess (except you, Arnaud) what the oriental character on their chest means?

Out of curiosity and after a long search on Google I finally found out what the character means, but I'll leave it open for someone else to guess ;)
From the images I saw, the customs are very authentic. :wow:

just curious, what were your search words? (I dont have enough historical drawings for reference....I dont feel comfortable relying on photos from movies :P )

and how can one find a translator without typing in chinese characters, to find the meaning, say for example, this one? (maybe you can and please teach me..I've been hoping to translate this one below)

Post by: skypurr on March 30, 2013, 21:11:47: Cheng, I just typed "Qing soldiers" into Google images and partway down the page was a T shirt with what looked to be the same character on it. It said that the character meant 'soldier' - is that correct?
I had previously typed something else (sorry, can't remember what :-[) which gave me images of figures (presumably soldiers) in costumes who looked to me very much like the ones you had created.

I was thinking of customing some Generals from the Three Kingdom Period but finding the right parts have been proving difficult...

This one is "Xun Bu" meaning they are the those who makes arrest for the local judge.

Post by: cheng on April 03, 2013, 03:45:00: hey, thanks Larry! (I'm a 'banana' :P)....so I'll just stick to the 'bing'(for early Qing) and the later 'yong'(brave) for my 1900 Manchu bannermen.

3 Kingdom period is very colourful, I think its still possible to make these generals ala-playmobil using a mix of samurai, egyptian, Romans & medieval knight's parts...the biggest challenge is always their headwear...here are some examples, go ahead and experiment, I'll help if I can :)
