Hello folks we had a bit of snow last week although not as much as some parts of the UK by the sounds of it and we got a bit more when I woke up this morning, I've taken lots of photos so starting with the ones I took last week:
Loading up from the grit bin "why oh why did we not get more shovels than I wouldn't have to do all the shovelling and the spreading"

Out to grit the paths

"I think I might need a bigger barrow"

Later on in the week he joined me and the BTCV gang at a place called Buntings Wood it looke dvery beautiful covered in frosted snow although my feet did not agree with me on this point

He decided to take a look at what we were doing, it's my first time having a go at Hedgelaying where you aim to cut nearly through the stem of the tree but, not quite so that the tree can lye flat to be laid with still a bit of the tree attached to the original stem system I think I did alll right cutting through the trees at my own pace without managing to make the same mistake as the guy showing me how to do it who just cut it to far and went straight through it :-[ :o

I really like the last one ;D

Great pictures, DrDalek6! :) Those trees and the park are really beautiful in the snow.

Lovely photos, the gardens look beautiful in the snow.
I really love the photo where he is wheeling the barrow along the path
I.m very jealous of all that snow, we must be in the only part of the UK that hasn't had any snow :hissyfit:
In fact today's been just like summer - rain, rain and more rain!

Great photos! I especially love the ones where his scarf appears to be blowing in the wind.
I too am incredibly jealous of all that lovely snow. We don't ever get to klicky sinking depth, an we only get even flurries of snow once every five years or so. Our record snowfall in my area is three inches.

Great pics - and I like his scarf!
I'm jealous of the snow too! We get none.

Wonderful pictures and the scarf is very nice indeed. Excellent idea.
Many thanks for sharing.

Magnificent pics, drDalek6! Love the scarf and you've put on your little friend some gloves as well!
When you wrote "That's a nice looking tree", you reminded me of Bob Ross, the painter!
Thanks for sharing!

Yes seems like it hasn't got that far North this time I didn't think it had snowed that much on monday morning until I unlocked the door as usual nice depth of slushy, sinky snow only abotu 3 of us clearing and gritting most of the day with the help of our big tractor scrapign it of so we were clearing the paths all day, definate ups and downs to snow in my line of work. I felt a bit sorry for the little fella having to push the barrow all the way up the hill if I'd made him do all the way up he would have been exhausted constantly going back and forth for more grit :( :-[ he had a good rest after the photo shoot ;)

Thanks I know not everyone likes the snow but, it's a pity if you do like snow and you want to take some some photos but, you jsut don't get the weather for it. Down here it's quite a good laugh listening to our Supervisor and one of the Gardeners moaning about the snow we wound him up yesterday saying loook at the snow on the tree don't you think it's beautiful he said very sarcasitcally oh yes it's marvellous  hope I don't end up that grumpy
Great pics - and I like his scarf!

Thanks I made the original green one out of a Council jumper that had already had it's sleeves cut off so I cut the sleeves down further to make some basic sleeping bags for my Action Men I felt sorry for the boys beign out in the cold and I remembered just as I was getting into bed so I made mark I from that and stuck the materials in my bag, did the black ones from off cuts of a jumper which had been cut up to keep the locks warm and dry and I made some checked ones form where my pj's had ripped at the knee

Great photos, beautiful there. We don't get that much snow here very often. We did get some last year though - in April! The cherry trees where just blossoming so they held extra snow, and it was wet, so we had lots of broken and split trees from that.
-
Looks like a fun place to work or play. I too like the picture of him holding the wheel barrow and the long frozen driveway is in front of him.
So why do you cut the brush like that? It will keep living if you leave a piece attached and will probably try to root in where it is touching the ground?

Few more for you the Policeman deicded to make a Snow Officer with a little help

Thank you :) that sounds on the one hand as though the flowers must have looked beautiful but, I guess it might have had a negative effect on pollination as well as as you said damaging the plants it can be a double edged sword :(

Thanks it is loads of fun ;D. As for the Hedgelaying I couldn't go to far into the techincallity of it but, the idea is to cut about 80% through the branch although it often feels scarily closer to all the way through when you're doing it , the idea is to keep it living but, to encourage it to form a hedge or a thick barrier to prevent livestock such as sheep from getting through which I believe is one of the reasons why spiky trees such as Hawthorn are normally used. Apparently the branches are meant to be laid every 5 or 10 years and you can sometimes see where branches been laid I think that the branches are meant to be just off the ground most of the branches get laid on top of each other anyway it didn't look as though it had rooted along the bottom, possibly because part of the wood's still attached to the stump a lot of the branches were really long going acrosswith some sprouting upwards from the main branches.
Don't hold me on all that I've said above it's only the 2nd time that I've done it so I'm certainly no expert also the style of hedging seems to vary across the country and this hedge has only been laid once before so it doesn't look aparticularly like the photos of more mature hedges I've just been looking at where the hedges are very thick and some of the branches have started growing at a 45 degree angle. I'll see if I can take some good photos of the bottom of the hedge where it's been laid the first time and has regrown and of the sections hedge that we've laid so far.
