Hello I've taken a fair few photos of the guys outside exploring and helping out and hopefully when I've got some tools and find the time and a good setting I'll take plenty more photos of them working so thought I'd stick them together in this thread.
First off my custom BTCV figures exploring the Botanical Gardens

He's called Simon and for those who don't know he's mention to look like one of the guys from BTCV hence his name

Exploring one of my favourite areas of the garden the Rock and Water Garden, I do most of the hands on maintenance for the pond as anyone who knows me will tell you if there's a pond about I'll find it and dive in it ;D always there with my wellies, pond net and the rest of the gear I love anything wet/slimy/muddy

And looking the other way I was taking great care as I came close to slipping on some black ice near the steps

On this particular day it was very cold and foggy alright when you're working but, you get numb fingers when you're eating lunch, fortunately we had a good supply of wood for the fire so we can have hot drinks
(http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g462/DoctorDalek6/P1020404_zps0ea465ea.jpg)
"Hey can you give us a hand?"
"Look how cold it is even the flower's frosted!"
Generally speaking I'm not keen on having people in the background but, I think in this case the way it's come out particularly with the fog it looks quite effective

Thanks both places are great to work I'm really glad that I can split my work between working at BTCV 1 or 2 days a week and Botanics the rest of the weeks it's probably not as good a sa lot of gardens I've visited but, to me it's like a 2nd home after all the years I've been volunteering as for BTCV well we work on some great sites some quite cold and exposed ones though as well but, this one is a sort of woodland coppice and it's normally a nice sun trap :)

 I wish one of the voulnteers often does the brew and goes off looking for good firewood to take back and dry out while the rest of us are doing the task, don't think the little fellas even had the Firemans axe to chop the wood up and I hadn't got them the chainsaw yet :)
;)
Wonderful outdoor pictures, congrats.
George.
Thank you very much :)

Some more photos for you, first off still at Cliff Plantation decided to make best use of the very long fairly straight woodland path

Rambling
(http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g462/DoctorDalek6/P1020685_zpsb1d2a789.jpg)
A few weeks ago when we were doing some Hedgelaying we had a bonfire to keep us warm and get rid of all the brash we'd created speaking of which I spent most of last Thursday moving brash only to be told that they wanted it piled up somewhere else then later that the first pile I'd made needed moving to where I'd done the 2nd :-[ >:( not easy considering how slippy and muddy the path was by then. Anyway the guys were quite impressed with the bonfire

The next week when we were Hedgelaying some of the boys decided to act as quality control inspecting the workmanship

Only one suitable way to test whether it's up to standard "so what do you think?"

"It looks good to me, pretty sturdy stuff"

And this is how far we'd progressed at the end of the day
(http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g462/DoctorDalek6/P1020959_zps8a2bb599.jpg)
Last week I was annoyed by the snow cancelling Tuesday's task day so resigned myself to a day clearing snow at the gardens, fortunately by Wednesday the snow had melted sufficiently to do the extra task day that had been planned, was a nice dry sunny day only 6 of us there including 4 staff, me and another volunteer meant it was quieter than usual. We had a rather nice surprise find.

A rather beautiful butterfly a Peacock apparently, resting on a dead branch stump which we were about to pull out

Thanks it looked as though it was enjoying the sun, was certainly was quite a nice surprise at this time of the year and indeed very beautiful, thank goodness we spotted it before it met an untimely end they'd probably have got squished in one way or another if we hadn't spotted it :)

I'm sorry only just noticed this one, when I started it was BTCV which I think stands for British Trust Conservation Volunteers, after I'd been there for a few months they decided to change the name to TCV which stands for The Conservation Volunteers. Personally as much as I like the Conservation work and support them I do think it's no doubt a waste of money all the people spending loads of money brainstorming for a new name and then changing everything over to the new name but, taking that aside I prefer the old name it sounds better the new logo as well nice and bright but again I prefer the old one so I choose to use the old name. The BTCV on the little fellas vest is because the old vests still have the old BTCV logo on them and as well I thought it'd be easier to draw the leaf logo than the new one I'll always see it as BTCV so to me it's natural :) hope that makes it a bit clearer ;)

Ah, thanks for the explanation ;) Maybe it changed "hands"?
But I do agree with you - seems a bit poitless and very expensive to do such changes.

Hasn't changed hands at least not as far as I'm aware it's a charitable group, according to Wikpedia it was started in 1959 as the Conservation Corps and changed it's name to the Britsh Trust For Conseration Volunteers in 1970, and in 2000 started using BTCV as its full name and then last year changed it to TCV. I think it was a case that they wanted to make the name or the intials sound more simple and also to use it as a change to update it and refresh the logo and such so that it looks more appealing to people which I guess it achieved with a very bright green and blue new logo but, the old logo with the word BTCV under a leaf (horse chestnut I think) as you can see on my custom figures vest was very bold and relevant to the work we do, I'm autistic so I can be a bit resitant to change but, I don't see the need for it and I liked it better with the old name and logo

Took these photos a few weeks ago we were working under a bridge doing some tree felling and litter picking, you know the phrase everything but, the kitchen sink? certainly applied here, loads of bags of rubbish, a mattress, part of a sofa, a trashed TV, what looked like part of a blender plus a squished traffic cone big metal fence and more, bloody flytippers >:(
(http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g462/DoctorDalek6/P1030107_zpsf7428e2b.jpg)
Then more recently they joined in for Round 2 trying to fix a flat tryre on the wheelbarrow back at base
"Look this makes a great place to explore" "Come on stop messing about and get out of there they need to put the inner tube back int there before they put the wheel on"
-
According to the person I was working with this tyre had been repaired about 13 times before, so we removed it once checked for escaping air, put a repair patch on, reattached the tyre to the wheel and pumped it up, guess what another leak this time over where there was already a repair patch >:( 8} ...
The guys helped to pump it back up
(http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g462/DoctorDalek6/P1030178_zps9673c96c.jpg)
Checking the pump stays connected
(http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g462/DoctorDalek6/P1030181_zps345909e8.jpg)
"Man this is hard work, phew!" "Come on guys keep pumping we're nearly there"
Checking the pressure
(http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g462/DoctorDalek6/P1030186_zps986684da.jpg)
Unfortunately this story doesn't have a happy end, they tyre was still letting put air even after the 3rd repair in a few weeks and at least the 13th in goodness only knows how many years :eh?: we decided that looking for more punctures was probably a wasted effort what was needed was to ask our boss to buy a new inner tube ;D after all we've tried our best 0) I blame all that spiky Hawthorn >:D ;)

Just had the same problem here! Didn't think to have my little friends help me out with it. Maybe if I had provided those great scarves, they would have volunteered! Great photos and story, loved it.

Thanks glad you like the scarves my favourite is the checked one which I made when my old pj trousers developed a big rip at the knee :-[. you never know if you asked them they might have been eager to help you ;D ;) although probably not so eager to do the pumping after all it's tiring when you're that small :o :-[
