Well, since I am in Orlando for work, and had the entire morning free, I thought "What better way to spend it than by going to the Orlando Fun Park?" :D
So I did exactly that!
I already knew, from other's comments and from the website, that it is not like the Fun Parks overseas, rather it is more of an exclusively Playmobil toy store. But, they have the current German releases - such as the Romans!
Here are some photos I took of the store. The klickies outside the store are huge!
-
Here are some of the arena sets they had for sale, as well as a shot of myself and an old comrade! And lastly, a shot of my loot from the raid. ;) I was VERY good, because I could easily have spent MANY times what I actually did. :D:D:D
If any of you ever get the chance to go to a fun park, I highly recommend it. It is very neat to see that MUCH Playmobil in one place.

Hello, Cap'n Henry ...
I know that you are travelling, and space is a BIG consideration, but how could you resist buying the new Roman Galley ship? ... ;)
(However, it looks like you're going to have some very happy children when you get home!) ... ;)
I think that I remember reading that you've also visited the Playmobil FunStore in New jersey ... ???
If so, how would you compare the two?
And, are you going to have time to go the North Palm Beach Gardens "FunPark?"
You might actually be the only member here at PF who would have visited all three Playmobil locations in the United States. (I have only been to the two in Florida.) ... ;)
I wonder if there's anyone here who has been to EVERY FunPark (FunStore) in the world?... :)
Thanks for your report and great photos, Henry ...
All the best and Happy New Year,
Richard

Awesome! I plan on being in Florida this summer or sooner if possible and am making it to both of the Funparks. That's one huge helicopter above the entrance to the shop!

Hmmm, you must have me confused with some other scurvy piratical type. I have never been to the one in Jersey, although it is a definite possibility, as it is about 4.5 hours from my home.

Funny you should ask... ;)
I was driving from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale for my next assignment, and lo and behold, I just happened to need to grab a bit to eat and stretch my legs right around West Palm Beach... :D:D:D
Well, I couldn't stop so close to the FunPark and NOT go in, right? :)
So here are the photos from that stop. It was just as cool as the Orlando store, but it had a totally different feel to it. It was a lot darker inside, although there were several HUGE Playmobil displays for the kids to climb into and onto. And in each one was a play table with sets from that particular theme for the children to play with.

Some more pix, including the store area, in particular their add-on bins...
-
Ti's the season, and I must say the jolly old elf looks even MORE like Richard at almost life-size! ;)
And a couple of shots of their very nice Rescue display, especially for Gordon, Tim_W, Ben and the rest of the rescue aficionados on the forum.
Oh, and for those that are wondering, some additional sets did manage to make their way into my bags! Although, unfortunately Richard, the Roman galley was not one of them. As you correctly surmised, my luggage room is limited, even though I brought an extra empty bag packed because I KNEW I'd be coming home with a few treats. If I get a chance later I will take a picture of the added loot. But it is just some small sets, nothing much.

Ah, the Orlando Fun Park does look more like the Germany/Zirndorf one. Seems to me that only the outdoor area with Playground for children is missing (and maybe the restraurant). But the add-on shelfes/boxes do look exactly the same.
(Do compare: I posted a thread here (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=413.0) after my first visit also including a photo from the add-on area, and a second one with more photos here (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=849.0) after my second visit, and Andi I think there are also quite some animals in the German park ;))
Oh, nice idea with the painted cotton wool to simulate fire/thick smoke. Should keep this in mind.
-
Yes I have noticed all the big animals. I have never been particularly interested in getting any of the giant figures, but I really would like one of the animals, a small one at least. A chicken, squirrel, dragon, whatever. :D
The rescue scene is great. I really like the seagull going after the bread that's floating away.

My wife and I were in Florida 3 weeks ago, and the Orlando Fun Park closed the week before our trip.......I was REALLY bummed, I'd been looking forward to going :(

... the Orlando Fun Park closed the week before our trip ...
Hello, Ben ...
Is it closed permanently? Or, are they remodelling, or is the Florida Mall closed for renovations?
All the best,
Richard

Richard,
it isn't permanantly closed. THANK GOODNESS! Just closed for renovations. I am a bit depressed too because I will be in Orlando around Easter. I don't even have enough time to jet down to the W. Palm Beach one either. :(

Thanks for the info, Hoppatussa ...
It's less than a three hour drive from Orlando to North Palm Beach Gardens.
What if you got a really early morning start? ... ;)
Thanks again and all the best,
Richard

Actually, they closed it because they couldn't come to agreement with the landlord about their lease on the building........word is that they will re-open it shortly, though I'm not sure if it will be in the same building or not.
I was bummed, as Amy and I had stayed in St Pete's Beach and wanted to drive to Orlando to check out the store and do some shopping;) But, after seeing how bad the traffic was around St Petersburg, I was OK with not having to make the drive to Orlando;)

Thanks for the update, Ben ...
I just looked at the Florida Mall Directory (http://) and Playmobil doesn't seem to be listed. Florida Mall has over 200 stores and is the largest shopping center in Central Florida.
It would be interesting if Playmobil were to open a real theme park in Orlando, rather than just a shopping mall store. I wonder if they will?
Thanks again, Ben.
All the best,

Now THAT would be call for another vacation!!!!
Just imagine, a life-size train to ride, an old Western Saloon, Roman Ship coming into harbor, etc etc!!
The possibilities are endless!!
:)

Thanks Richard, that confirms the rumors about another store opening there eventually.
