Title: Silmarillion
Post by: conniefrere on August 02, 2012, 19:34:54
During holidays I always busy! Never a rest. Taking pictures, reading books, playmobil, buying princess playmo, and lots of other stuff. Anyhow I was reading "The Silmarillion" which are some tales made by Tolkien and edited by his son into a booklet. The stories there tell a lot of the history/mythology of lord of the rings. Reading silmarillion and seeing my new princes/elf stuff just made think of the characters in playmobil. So here I show some pics, still working my skills in photoshop  :), I made today. I did not make up the scenes, there "copies" from artists who made some pictures with the stories in book.

I wonder if some of you guys reckon the scenes and characters which are displayed, if you don't I will give some text if you please. Or just enjoy the pics! I might add some more over time.

Thanks guys!

@cowabounga: no, the bard is not Tom Bombadill. It is Finrod Felagund and he is the first elve who meets the race of men and plays music to them for he does not know their language.

I am looking forward finishing it... I so want to learn about the old history of middle earth, and what came before... To be honest, I did get bored of the introduction, it was beautiful to read but not of too much interest.

It is all part of the story, but indeed not the most interesting, the introduction. It gets better! Way better.
Now I know your reading the book I don't want to give away the scenes I tried to make! Now I'm hoping you will recognise them. Could you tell me were you are in the book? Maybe I already can give some hints.

Actually, once I read the first chapter, I decided to go ahead and read the Lord of the Rings instead of the Silmarillion first...
Yeah I know, I'm very stable in my wants  But fro some reason now I am going through the big one...

I second that request!! Haven't read the Silmarilion yet (don't know why, really) but I re-read Lord of the Rings quite often

Your displays look wonderful, conniefrere

The lord of the rings is easier to read and more of a complete story. I you stick to reading you will love it I'm sure. One of the stories in the silmarillion is made into a novel. The book is "The Children of Hurin" that story is in parts in the Silmarillion, but the story as a complete tale is in that book.

It is a good idea think I will give it a try. Although the hobbits are difficult. Maybe need some customs of child klicky with bare feet and hairs on it. :)

Thanks!

Great pics! And the backgrounds are amazingly well done!

I did read Silmarillion (and the Unfinished Tales), though they're a bit too much for me  :-[  As for The Children Of Hurin... I do have the book... sometimes I wonder why in Hades I bothered.. what to say... The story IS on one of those two other books (or in both?), and it's misery all the way. :(

Just rewatched LOTR last night (I suppose the 2nd and 3rd this weeked).. for the... I don't know.. 20th time? ;)

Thanks Tahra and Justindo!

The Children of Hurin is indeed in the Silmarillion as well as in Unfinished tales.

BTW you watched LOTR with the extra scenes?

Oh oh oh oh, playmobil cave trolls! That's pretty difficult, I guess. (Playmobil needs giants, I was thinking about that the other day.)

We can use a balrog too. And while were at it maybe some orcs and uruk-hai and not to forget .....gollum.

The ONLY way to watch it.. I LOVE those movies, but they made a HUGE mess of Faramir (and the ents), especially in the theatrical :(  Even the long one is short on him and Eowyn...

(it does take a WHILE... and they're still VERY short.)

  They should have made the movies, even the extended ones, somewhat longer.

Like they're doing with the Hobbit: tiny little book --> three movies!  8}

Title: Re: Silmarillion

The hobbit will fill in A LOT of the blanks.. Most of the non-hobbit/dwarf characters are a cameo in the book.. Not to mention the off screen battle, that will be VERY MUCH on screen on the movie, I'm sure...

The movie will probably INCLUDE the Hobbit, but reach MUCH further. It MUST.

Looking forward to it...

Me too. I heard there will be three movies and a lot of material from the appendices of lotr books will be used.

We'll see!

I cant help but have the idea that it will all feel rather underwhelming after the lord of the rings trilogy though.

No, that's why it will NOT be the book... :)
