There has been some hints about a new release of the theme for next year...
Playmobil Hellas is organizing an exhibition of a big Victorian diorama (last year our greek friends made a diorama with the western theme and this same theme was renewed as we know this year)
Playmobil USA today published in their Facebook page a pic of the original Victorian house for the fans to enjoy.... or for the young fans to get to know... Is this publicity?
And, FAO Schwartz realeased the Victorian set he have been talking about in other threads... not to mention the add-ons that we have voted and got to the catalgoue this year.
Could we finally be sure our beloved Victorian (1900 Playmobil) is coming back?? :prays: :prays: :prays: :prays:

I hope not.......

It could happen, I suppose.

why NOT? you love Victorian!

I want it but in diffrent colors. Having the 5300 in the same color is too repetitive and it would also appease the collectors who want to retain their collection value. Similar to the new green Victorian car I would love all the classic Victorian sets but in new realistic, historic, mellow toned colors. It would not be hard at all to make new colors to all the klickies, houses, furniture (well not all the furniture need to be too diffrent but at least a lighter brown) vehicles, and all the other stuff.

Well, as a theme would be good but with new sets, not to reproduce the old ones ;)
-
I meant that... new sets for a renewed victorian theme... not the same sets in different colors ;D

If you look at the pirate, western, medival, even the Victorian theme itself, the way they have evolved over the years I would not want to see what the modern design team at Geobra would produce. It would no doubt be all "fisher pricey" in look, color, design and overall concept. Look how they designed the Victorian-ish doll house 5302. 4857 with its limited ability to be expanded. What if it were system x. or the clip system.

I think that it'd be cool if they at least came out with some new figures, vehicles, and/or accessories for this theme. That way they would fit with all of the existing buildings.

Some new sets and accessories (reissued or new) would be great, as long as they don't try to redo the whole theme with their current low-density plastic, and - as Ras wrote- fisherpricy designs. In case they'd launch a whole renewal of the theme, they'd better wait till the financial/economical crisises are over (if that will ever happen) and then get back to more qualitative plastic & designs (if there is still oil by then).

I did notice that some of the parts in more recent sets were of a lighter-feeling plastic. Is it confirmed that they did, in fact, switch to a different one, or is any other information known about it? If the FAO set was made using this cheaper material for example, maybe that would hint at newer items of the same quality for a revival of the theme too. :(
-
one thing that has never changed over time is the fact that Geobra is always finding ways to save plastic resources.
people will still be buying toys till the end of time. f it is not made out of petroleum based plastic it will be corn based. If the world ends we just make playmobil soup. Happy ending for all ;)
-
I don't want to take us too far off topic, but does lighter plastic neccessarily mean lower quality? I mean the processes and blends have come a long way, it is possible that the plastic they are using could be stronger or just as strong even if there is less of it.
On topic... I'd love to see a revival of this theme! I'm with Ras that new colors would be nice so that you can tell the difference between new and old easily, as long as the new colors are realistic and not PINK or something. ::) New parts would be great, too!

I would like to see something newish that fits with the theme (new colors and /or new designs), but no pink!

just look at the evolution of designs in the pirates theme
You have the old styles of the ships,

and now you have these

but if you look at re-releasing, with new colors and in nice tones
you have old

and new

a yes that would be good!!!! but I doupt they will make any reasonable new designs I'am sure they will look fisher priceish..... unfortunatly ::) ::)

Definatly!!!!! That's why I don't like that they reproduce these sets with this new cheapish plastic....... ??? ??? ??? ???

Now that you mention it, there are some signs that we may see the Victorian theme again soon. Then again, there have been some signs that an Asian historical theme would be released and that hasn't yet materialized. :(
I personally would like to see the old Victorian theme re-released, albeit with different non-Fisher Price colors, such as a house in grays and the furniture in lighter and darker wood with different color accents.
-
Hopefully they'd go in the direction of the new pirate ship and the new western sets regarding color scheme
-
Those older ships (and the newer re-styled one) look much better, I will say. Those plastic sails... I have no idea why those would ever be released. :-\
Hopefully they'd go in the direction of the new pirate ship and the new western sets regarding color scheme
That sounds like a cool idea. The new Pirate and Western Themes have some nice colours and tones.

Not all of them are nice on the eyes and in functionality
and in the pirate theme there are plagued with the clip system and now electric buttons. Then you have the US exclusives that need to be plastered with crossbones images due to someones market research

I wish I shared your enthusiasm but for years and years playmobil was the lone company making high quality realistic toys that had a real appeal to both children and adults alike. The old western, medieval, pirate, etc... themes were full of sets you could find exact representations in the real world. I would not continue buying new playmobil if Geobrea upon some market research started releasing medieval castles in purple colors. There is good reason the steck walls are grey, they really were. I have never seen blue horse harnesses in the 1800's and there is no reason, except market research, that they should be. They were brown/black tones for years and no child/adult did not buy it due to its realism. What if the civil war outfits were orange ?? because you know how much kids like oranges.
-
I do agree on the realistic, and accurate colours, Ras, but my guess is a child is more drawn to bright colours than realistic ones. Sure that takes away from the adult collector, but gives geobra the edge of them captivating the interest of their small age target group.

As only recently I acquired quite a few victorian sets after my decvision to move finally after many years into this theme ( and what a grand theme it is ) i want to stress that over a few years there were pretty much 80 victorian sets. i very much doubt that these sets will be re- released. The magic of the original sets with all the children sets and varius sets with all the detailed accessories and detailing will never happenb again IMHO simply because kids these days want different things and have other toyt priorities and general different toy trends totally from the late 80s and 90s. I think - and i am new to victorian - that they are infact some of the greatest sets playmobil ever produced given the sheer quality and details and parts involved. The 5300 is a truly grand set i must say and with options such as stairs or not, additional floors , variius sets to use etc make it a very diverse and custom possible grand set around which many other sets are based upon . Looking at the latest sets etc i dopubt we will ever see such details etc again but still i am sure playmobil will create something worthwhile
I woudl prefer if the old colors were used actually and not some silly pink color etc
