Title: Wizards (the good guys) by doug
Post by: doug on April 01, 2012, 02:23:54
Playmobil has given us a few nice wizards so far.  These four are the ones I see with frequency one the second-hand market.
There are also a druid, a genie, lots of gnomes and fairies/elves, and a few witches and sorceresses.   But very few human wizards.  And we need more! ;)

So below are my built-from-extra-parts wizards.  Some are very close to what others have made.  Some are more unique.    I will add to this thread as time and spare parts allow.

Let me know what you think.  As always, polite criticism is very much appreciated:  Feedback is necessary for improvement.
Thank You.

We received a new fire wizard the other day.  I was so excited:  I LOVE that guy!  But then I tried to think of what to do with 2 fire wizards.  His robes are so distinct that even with new hair he'd look like a clone.
(Medieval + Uniformity = BAD)  Well, if ya can't change 'em, join 'em:

So I'm hoping you see a fire wizard's apprentice here.   He needs bracelets, I think.  The only ones I have here are gold, and he shouldn't have much gold, being a poor barefoot gofer.  The gold knife belongs to the boss, of course....

Here is my obligatory Gandalf inspired wizard.

Not sure if I like the blue boots: they were what I had around.  Some days they seem whimsically eccentric for a slightly dotty old wizard.  Other days they seem... wrong.

This guy is knock-off of the 4579 special Spirit.  I just liked the design, and made a human (mortal? alive?) version of him.
His hood makes me think of wind, and I think he'll become a wind wizard, once I find appropriate accessories...

I imagine this guy as having a special affinity for sound,
(http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/album/albums/userpics/11629/normal_WizardTonus.JPG)
as he carries a horn and has a ringing staff.  The updated version of him has no green zig-zag on his skirt and has gold shoes.

And this fella must manipulate light and visions,
(http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/album/albums/userpics/11629/normal_WizardDB.JPG)
as his outfit alone can cause hallucinations.   :)  He is mostly made from the older Magi set that we had in plenty.  I know his d-bag beard isn't quite symmetrical, and needs tweeked, but I love the effect it gives him and am afraid of ruining it when I go in to fix it.

That's all my pix for today.  More to come soon.  Thanks for looking.

Nice customs, doug! I particularly like the first white-robed one; the blue boots are fine. Good luck getting more parts for more. ;)

Great customs - where did you get the hat for the Gandalf one - is it original or painted?

Thanks for comments, everyone.
Elaine,  the hat is from the dwarf 5-pack.  http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?set=7849 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?set=7849)

I've got that
I thought the one on Gandalf looked bigger!

He just wears it well.   ;)

I tried the black dwarf's hat on a witch, and while it wasn't so bad that I ditched the idea, it does look a bit small.....

I didn't know that those fit the normal figures. 8}

Pynedor, I'm pretty sure the diameter of classic kids' hair is the same as the diameter of the adult hat ring.  So just about any hat that fits an adult will physically fit the kids, and vice versa.

A few adult helmets are too tall to clip on kids' heads before bumping into their shoulders, and the one hair-net crown http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30%2026%208890 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30%2026%208890) is too shallow to fit over a globular kid head, but most other medieval gear seems to cross over well as far as snapping on.

Aesthetically on the other hand....   ::)

My Gandalf-esque figure's hat is almost too small, IMO

The last 2 wizards pictured above, BTW,  have head bands that were once tiny angel's halos.

So, I guess 3 of the 4 wizards above with head gear are wearing child sized head gear... hmmmm

I knew that the headbands used for the children are the same as those for adults, but I didn't know that the hats would fit. Thanks for sharing. ;)

A few more of my wizards from spare parts:

My Sea Wizard:
is barely a custom.  New accessories, really.  Oh!  And bare feet, for better communing with the waters, as it were.
He's supposed to look half pirate, hence the monkey familiar...

My W.I.P. steel wizard needs his accessories yet. (Come on, D.S.!)
I'm not sure the zebra skirt fits.  Lisa thinks it's great.....
Overall the look works for me.
You?

Not sure if this guy is a genie himself or a wizard controlling a Genie:
I dig the red eyes.  He's mostly from the older Magi set.

These next two are more to fill in my tables at the wizard's pub.

I needed Caesar's accessories and was stuck with the boring figure, so he's my boring wizard
(http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/album/albums/userpics/11629/normal_WizardMagenta.JPG)
He seems pretty effete.  No idea what his wizarding ability would be.

I liked the purple dress, but she never seemed regal to me.  So she is my token female wizard, now :-\

Any ideas for accessories, function, or even other parts for her ( or ANY of the wizards) is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking.
Extra thanks for suggestions. ;)

Nice ones! Maybe the metal one could use one of those staves from the Dragon Land wizard. The white striped robe looks fine. :)
