Title: Brainstorming for next round of Add-ons/DS items
Post by: Robbie on February 10, 2012, 02:02:49
I think we should find a way to start getting organized for the next time Playmobil asks us for ideas on items to re-issue in the Add-ons/DS items catalog. They usually tend to give us a VERY limited time frame so let's be proactive and start brainstorming now. We still haven't found out what this year's German releases will be, but I have a feeling information will be leaked in March.  :prays: :cham:

I'm going to try to start working on a list of the items that have already been re-issued in the last 2 or 3 years so that maybe there won't be as many items asked for that are currently available. I know that there's hundreds of add-ons and it can be confusing.  ;)

My choice for a Classic Edition item would be the School Bus 3170. It would continue their trend of re-issuing vehicles of the past and it would fit the current price point also. The Garbage Truck 3780 was reissued and retails for $27 so I think the School Bus would fit into that ballpark of pricing. My only concern is when this set shows us used on eBay, the roof is usually always broken. Banging around in a plastic bag might not be a good idea, so perhaps it could be boxed in cardboard like the add-on Train Cars.

An idea some of us discussed after the last time was that maybe we should vote in five to ten categories, e.g. steck buildings, animals, klicky add-ons, vehicles, ships... OR five broad themes, e.g. medieval, victorian, police/rescue, modern, historic. Then we could pick one item out of each category or theme to ask for. That way we wouldn't ask for two ships and three steck buildings or something like that. It might make things a little more fair, since in the last two votes medieval, victorian and western have been highly favored, and collectors of other themes need a chance to ask for something too.

Excellent idea, and thank you , Robbie, for the list of already re-issued sets! this will help us not to include them in ou new proposals!

These retired Specials found their way to be re-released in various ways in the last few years. There are some such as the Karate Guy 4532 which was only reissued as a Pal, and that was many years ago. The Blues Musician 4508 made an appearance in the Train Station Interior 4303 but that set has been gone for years also.

Am I correct that the blister packs were eventually available worldwide?

4506 Vampire---reissued as 4772
4510 Boy & Go-Cart---reissued as Pal & 4917
4517 Dark Knight---reissued as Pal, 4917, and “Back By Popular Demand”
4529 Girl & Bunnies---reissued as Pal and 4911
4534 Temple Knight---reissued as 5824
4539 Mandarin Prince---reissued as 5849
4545 Sea King---reissued as 5823
4548 Peg-Leg Pirate---reissued as Pal, 7243, and 7668

Interesting. I never realized that before. Is the black hat available in any other current sets? The saxophone might still be available from DS since it was released in the Circus Band 4231.

i have that old yellow school bus - the problem with re-issuing old vehicles may be that they would not fit into the rest of the atmosphere and style of the current sets, in other words they'd look oldfashioned. I have the vehicles below and i love them BUT at this point some of them look kind of 'old' for the new city buldings etc IMO :-\ (just like real cars in real life)

Seeing how everyone makes suggestions for old sets being reissued, lets make some suggestions for specific parts/combinations too since that makes up most of the DS catalogue.

Here's a few.

-Storage items.
A small set consisting out of various chests and barrels, all empty.

-Treasure.
There is a set like that yes, but it does not contain gold pieces oddly enough.
For this one I'd suggest two sets of gold and two sets of silver pieces being included, enough to fill a large treasure chest.
Aside from that also some cups, a crown, a vase, lamp, etc.

-Castle servants.
Set of three clickies which are generic castle servants with neutral colors.
Includes a maid, a stable boy and a herald. Accesoires can be a broom, a bucket and a scroll.

-neutral horses.
Right now there are only show horses and such in DS I believe, not horses that are suitable for historic themes.
Just a nice little batch of about five horses in different colors with neutral saddles would be good.

-Medieval armory.
Set containing about eight soldier helmets and breastplates, six neutral shields, four spears, four swords, two crossbows, two bows, four quivers with arrows, two flails, two axes and two different full sets of knight armor. (neither being the overused fat armor)

I love all of those too. I agree they would look out of place with the other current offerings, but the Classic Edition theme is all about reissuing vehicles they consider "Collector's Items" from long ago.

good point!

A few years ago they started to reissue some old garbage trucks and boring s
"collector" sets - I wonder if they ever sold at all

It's really hard to say for sure. The Tow Truck 7296 was first released in the early 2000's and was just issued again in 2011/2012. Also the first Classic Edition ever, the Construction Truck 7325 (for the 35th Anniversary) was just issued again as 7466.

This makes me think they sold well. Because if they didn't sell well, they would have marked them down to get rid of their stock and never looked back.

The Dump Truck with Scoop 7655 has been in the DS catalog for a few years also.

If you look in a modern street, then you see a mix of different ages of vehicles.  Old and new style PM lorries and cars can be mixed together with no problem.

I see the DS sugegstions are, again, very much mediaeval biased; I'm sure that Geobra are really looking for a wider perspective here.

That's why I strongly feel that we should vote in a top five or maybe ten categories or broad themes, and then vote in one thing from each category/theme to ask for. That way everyone has a fairer chance. I think themes would be better, personally. We can ask for one medieval, one victorian, and one western thing (obviously those will be in the top), and then people who collect some other themes can have a chance to request something. We can start a thread asking for nominations of what themes we would like to choose something from, and then have a poll.

After we have decided the themes, we can take seperate nominations and polls for each theme. That way if two themes you like are voted in, you can comfortably vote for your favorites in each theme, knowing something from both themes will be requested in the end.

However, wouldn't it be better to do all this after we have seen what is coming out in the DS catalog this year? That way we'll know what we already have and what we need to keep asking for.

We should keep in mind set for expanding current buildings. They did a really good job with the most recent Shop add-on. I would like to see a set of stairs and another floor above to expand the possibilities.

I know that these will probably never be released, but...

1. Cape and Cloak Collection - a set of different coloured cloaks and capes, some full length, some mid-length, and some short capes.

2. Medieval Weapon Lot - a set with a large amount of weapons (maybe no armour being included will make this cost less), example: 10 ordinary swords, 5 longswords, 5 daggers, some pikes, some halberds, some battleaxes, some war axes, (some warhammers, if only they existed!), some flails, or any combination really.

3. Medieval Armour Lot - it'd be nice to buy armour and weapons separately, to spread out the cost; here should be some normal-sized plates and arm pieces, and also some blank silver shields, like those in the Knight's Market Stand.

4. Medieval Helm Lot - some great helms, salets, large helms, and basically any sort of playmobil helm that's offered; I think it'd be cool if there were a few different helm lots, some with older style Medieval helms and others with full-face helms, parade, tournament, or jousting helms.

5. Another Medieval Tournament Equipment Set - some lances, full helms, horse caparisons and armour, jousting shields, some fanciful plumes and helm feathers.

6. A Crusade Expansion Set - like the three figure sets, but with three Teutonic Knights, maybe with different arm and leg styles, and some era-specific helms, and maybe the "leader" could be a grand master sort of character.

7. A System-X Expansion Set - I’d like an expansion for the Eagle Castle, though I guess it’s too old now.

8. Medieval denizens - peasants, smiths, carpenters, maidens, squires, pages, labourers, hunters, craftsmen, masons, monks, Medieval-style nuns, farmers galore!

That’s all for now, but there are a lot more things I’d like to see!

Thank you! I fear that they may never be released though! It does seem that Playmobil's Medieval themes are moving toward fantasy themes, which is sort of cool and depressing at the same time. I wish that I had had a chance to get some of the Medieval denizen folks before they were discontinued.  :(

Sounds good to me!

So do we want to try and decide on categories this time? My suggestions would be something like this:

steck buildings
western
figures
animals
victorian
police/rescue
vehicles
accessory sets

We could suggest various categories we would like to pick something from, vote in a top five-ten categories, and then pick one thing from each category.

That sounds great to me! I'm still drooling over the new items. It's amazing how many old items are now available!

At this point, Playmobil doesn't include the original figures with exception of the reissue of the Hussar Guards 5580. This set was made up of mostly figures in the first place, so this must be why this set is the exception. They generally are going to issue the key component from the old sets we request.

I know how frustrating it must be for fans of rescue, animals, etc which haven't had a chance to see your  favorite requests come to life. I would also love to see the Gnus and Mountain Goats available once again. They would sell like hot cakes :D

My votes would be

Western Farm house (could be used in multiple themes really as it is just a plain house)
Igloo (because I need more)
Bi-plane (because they are AWESOME!!! )
Victorian people set, like 7 people not just 3 (the people from the Ad column, Professor Mobilux and Patrick, and Sherlock Holmes too perhaps)
Wildebeasts (just exactly how am I supposed to play Lion King without a herd of these?)

Something for at least almost everyone...  ;D

Any of these Standing requests will do as well...
STECK STECK STECK
Nuremburg Guards
Medieval Peasants and old style nobles

And if they really want to make me happy... release the gallows, the pillary, and the Mississippi Steamboat

Heres my votes.

-a simple market stand.
Something like the one with armor and weaponry thats available now, but without those things. Instead just the stand with some crates and containers.

-Medieval furniture set.
A small set consisting out of tables, benches, chairs, a rug and altar.

-Legendary treasure.
Not just a few coins but lots and lots of coins in this set, enough to fill three treasure chests completely.
Various chests of different sizes could be included to put it in.

A great classic set that has a lot of demand and still is hard to get in good condition
(http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc457/Koretsky/3551.jpg)

this is more of a mix of 7400 and old stecks, more of a back up plan
(http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc457/Koretsky/3433.jpg)

the animals could be adjusted, add a buffalo, a mountain goat, big deer, etc.., but something like this

Now that we know the new upcoming releases, I too think this is a good time to begin brainstorming.  So far I really like some of the suggestions.

The Colorado Springs Train Station and the Western Farm House would seem to be natural choices with the recent releases of the windmill, water tower, schoolhouse, and the Western theme.  I wasn't aware of 7400, but that would seem to go along well with it too.  These three sets are versatile and would be popular, I think.

I also like the idea of the medieval tournament set and peasants and nobles.  Either re-issues of the old versions or new interpretations would be welcome.

Very good point, I too think that it would be a great time to ask for a larger set now that geobra is realising we have deep pockets and good ideas. Like you said the recent western revival is only going to be helpfull in getting such a set voted on.

Yeah, and we need to ask now while the western series is still going.

I had another thought, how about a tree pack. It could have the Oak tree, Hollow tree w/face, Hollow tree w/hideaway, and maybe a willow tree, not that it is classic its just so beautiful and one I have a feeling will be hard to find complete when it gets old. Not the modern common trees but more of the old classic big ones that we all could use.

Bi-plane (because they are AWESOME!!! )

Even though it's not Medieval or similar, I would buy that because it's just cool.

-Medieval furniture set.
A small set consisting out of tables, benches, chairs, a rug and altar.

That's a great idea.

I'm loving these ideas!! I think if the Western comeback is a bust (and I think it's a big IF), Playmobil won't go ahead with any additional western DS offerings, so we should definitely ask for the key items (3769 and 3770) now, as mentioned above.  ;)

A quick glance at what's already been reissued from the Western series so far...

While all suggestions are very good, I think Bonnie's suggestion is a very constructive one.

This way we can put in more ideas on a variety of themes and not just on the ones we are interested in... For example, I am a medieval/pirate/western collector but I'd love to see certain non medival/pirate/western sets reproduced!!!
So to start on it:

steck buildings: 3440 - Tailors House (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3440&pics=off)
western: 3784 - Confederate Artillery (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3784&pics=off) goes well with the new South soldiers  ;D
figures: mixed medieval klickies from: 3293 - 5 Farmers (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3293) 3292 - Townspeople (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3292&pics=off) 3487 - Water Well And Fool. (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3487)
animals: wildebeest
victorian: 5340 - Man In Tux With Flowers & Lamppost (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5340) or 7031 - Victorian Streetlight (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7031)
police/rescue: 3525 - Hook & Ladder Truck #21 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3525)
vehicles: 3551 - Fishing Boat (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3551)
accessory sets: gosh... so much to choose... ok, I think I'll go with the medieval furniture set  ;D ... Jousting sets and tents can wait for next year, as far as I'm concerned.

Finally, a special request that may will find interesting! I've proposed this before, but we need a collector's case of the following set!!!
3291 - Nuremburg Guards (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3291)
Jus imagine a case like the first playmobil sets where klickies were positioned on a plastic holding case... and the case within a colourfull, old style playmobil box

Just the table and chairs, Ras. Everything else, apart from the green colour, is the same to the other sets. I believe the colour alone makes it worth for the house to be re-released.

To be fair, we do need to keep in mind that kids these days might have little interest in rereleased classic clickies, although I am sure they would also love updated versions of them, so it matches with newer clickies.

My suggestions would be:

steck buildings (not my theme)
western 3430 blacksmith, 3769 farmhouse, 3770 colorado springs station
figures black swimsuit family, more assorted ethnic modern klickys
animals wildebeests, mountain goats
victorian 5551 pianist, 5324 bathroom
police/rescue 3525 ladder truck, 3526 pumper truck
vehicles (no suggestions)
boats/ships (no suggestions)
accessory sets package of assorted hair pieces, package of collars, stethoscopes, earrings, other pieces with no part number.

This is exactly why I think that accessory packs are the way to go... collectors can dress up their old klickys and kids could use the parts on new ones  ;D

steck buildings (not sure)
western 3769 farmhouse
figures groups of themed figures eg. 6 modern, 6 medieval villagers, 6 victorians 6 winter klickies etc.
animals (not sure)
victorian the lampost because it can be used for more than just victorian
police/rescue (not sure)
vehicles (not sure)
boats/ships (not sure)
accessory sets package of assorted hair pieces, package of collars, stethoscopes, earrings, other pieces with no part number.  ( I agree with bb)

This is why I think this should not be in. We really do not need the same parts that if we really want diffrent colors we do have paint. Now if we were to vote on say the steck bell tower, combined with the glass windows, the porch, and any other parts that are rare to the steck collector we would be getting a reissue that is unique. It could be a custom set of our choosing. We may be able to set a new precedent with Geobra. Using our vote on the same old house seem very redundant.

I keep thinking about adding a new steck tudor house but not in the traditional way. What if we were to create a custom house with all the rare parts that so many of us search for. The stairs, balcony, bell tower, glass windows, shutter windows, signs, etc.....If one DS item had many of the rare parts, we would want to avoid DS parts orders as you could get so much in a simple method. I bet many castle builders could come up with some great designs for the set, it could even be a sort of contest that we all vote on. We could do this with other themes as well, western steck house, system X maybe etc..........

Here's some more ideas for DS sets:

-Recreation of the classic medieval furniture with silverware sets.
These seemed to be in stores back then and seem like good furniture sets.

-Blacksmith equipment.
A forge, an anvil, hammers, an apron and everything else a blacksmith might need. A nice little set.

-10 old glass windows.
Not beating around the bush here, just simply a batch of 10 glass windows.
Everyone wants them after all.

-Basic western house.
A western house in neutral colors that can be used for practically anything.

-War horses.
We see plenty of modern horse packs, but they dont fit in very well with historic themes. This pack contains several medieval horses with armor or horse barding.

-Scooter.
Another simple set. There was a green one years ago I believe, and a very nice red one with the ferry. Might be nice to be able to get that red one seperatly, or maybe have one in blue or another appealing color on DS.

What kind of glass windows? You mean steck ones?

The war horses are also a great idea, though I might add that they should also be able to wear existing caparisons.

The war horses could be classic horses, I didnt mean they need to be a fancy model.  :) Just intended to be horses for knights.

And yep, the old classic steck glass windows.

Maybe the full victorian piano set including the rug, clicky and everything could be a great DS set too considering the rediculous price for it in the second hand market.

Animals:  Wildebeast/ gnu and the Ibex... a nice collection of animals (such as the north American wildlife)
Western: Farmhouse, TRAIN
Victorian: Re-release the Truck
Ships: The Old Fishing Trawler that is shown earlier in this thread (I always wanted that set)

Accessory Sets:
Western: Horse Saddles/Blanket Rolls, Gold Nuggets/bars/coins for the mine and stage coach
City life: Children's toys

Plain Armor for the Knights

Soldier armor.
Plenty of knight armors and knights everywhere, but I'd prefer more soldiers!
What the set could contain:
8x soldier breastplate.
8x soldier helmets (two slightly different designs but somewhat similar.)
2x chainmail "hair."
6x neutral round shield. (like was used often in the 90's.)
1x horn.
4x spear.
2x sword.
2x bow with quiver and arrows.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Instruments.
A small set including about 10 different instruments of playmobil.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clicky accesoires.
There could be different variations of this for various themes, but the set could always include:
-An assortment of headwear.
-Various neckwear.
-Quite a lot of wristwear.
-several belts for either around the waist or over the shoulder.
-a few basic accesoires for in hands.

This could really provide some variation to spice up your clickies and change their style a bit without having to strip other clickies for it or aquiring more clickies just because of their items.

Not to mention they can be used in armies with tall hats, harbor guards etc. I would love to see an array of say 20-30 of those guns in formation !!!

-20 sets of gold coins. (usually its 1 or 2 sets of coins for a large chest, I want to fill them up.)
-Four western horses. (including saddles that can hold a rifle and a blanket.)
-Set of three neutral medieval soldiers with neutral shields. Just brown and black used on clothes..
-Set of sails. (A simple set of sails for a pirateship, in a different style than whats sold in stores.)

If I remember correctly there was a lot of votes for a religious pack. Something similar to the "family packs" but priests and nuns instead. I would say because knights, hunters, fairies, and such are more Easter-related that bunnies!

But really, I do agree that it's strange they've not released more of those.

their uses are a bit limited, I dont think they sold very much. Same probably goes for mermaids and temple guardians. Most clickies can be used for a lot of things, while these kinds can't.

At least mermaids have some following among young'uns. Bunny people... not so much.

I dont want to derail from the orignial topic, i dont think the cat pic was cool buyt thats my personal view of course..i think most people agree that a victorian theme pic suits you best sire being such a collector of vicotrian houses you got this rep anyways .. i also tyhink you should take a photo of a klicky, original and your photo and post it as everryone else so the avatar is peronalised and is like you  ;).. anyways the new avatar i think is far more plauymo appropriate that a cat's bottom after all
and now back to topic before bb kicks my human bottom i would oove to see the victorian lamop making a comeback , what a shame this items was not included in the FAOP set it feels like everythign else was anyways .....

Unfortunately, I think that since the FAO sets were so "exclusive"-like, it would seem that the Victorian theme won't be getting a comeback very soon. :-\

I share Jon's optimism sir pynedor. The fact that we have a green old timer car, the lovely kiosk ( next years anyways for us ) and the awesome , awesome hussars ( i cant think of a better reason to create a british army of napoleonic ewar era ....   )  might prove to be just a prelude of more to come. Since the moulds are clearly there for the FAO set and given i am sure very good sales of all the collector's re issued ds items like the steck bakery and museum i have a feeling we will see much more of medieval and victorian steck actually. and if these are only available via the ds catalogue i am not bothered at all actually as lobng as more sets makea come back. I truly have a lot of optimism for a ds steck castle next actuially, i have a good feeling it wont be very long till we see one steck castle in a ds catalogue. After all , steck when compared to system x, clip system is soooo much better looking, quality , robust etc i wont be totally surprised to see more sets coming out based on steck , the very best of playmobil.....

i know i may be soundfing like a tv evangelist when it come to steck but lets face it it is simply the best. JUst imagine a revised 3666 with 4 way connectors and revised tiles ( perhaps the drak ones from the red/yellow/blue steck houses ) and perhaps a new stek gate and tower design with bigger diameter , god they would sell so many of this set to me and just me only       ...... Playmobil should toy more with the idea of a steck castle, surely the steck houses vuia ds should justify this . Aw  and please add a few nuremberg guards to this castle with the classico shiny armor .

Darn right! And the worse about it is that the colors were AWESOME... But the ... what do we call them? bunny-creatures are plain weird. They're too real looking next to the klickies.  If it wasn't for the feet, I think ours would all be popped by now...

My sister doesn't like them either..  We hope they NEVER make a return.

And the eyes! The eyes!  :uhoh:

It would be nice to see the bunny sets re-released with non-scary figures, like fairies or pixies... anything that doesn't look like it will eat the other klickies.

 ;D YES!

Cause the sets themselves are real cute, and they have GORGEOUS colors... (we have the first series, when we bought the darn catalog from one end to the other, I think  :-[ )
Title: Re: Brainstorming for next round of Add-ons/DS items

Couldn't agree more

I bought nearly all of those bunny-creature-sets because of the surroundings, and everything that went with it (paint, paint brushes, easles, animals, toadstools...).

And then... I took the heads and hands off the little bunnies, and re-used their torso's. Because even those looked great  :-[
I have no idea what to do with the 'grown-ups'. Although they might be useful in an all playmo X-files episode.

The only problem with the torsos are the bushy tail... I suppose it can be removed...

Even the hands are ok, as can easily pass for gloves.. The feet are the worse, since it ruins the legs... Not to mention the weird head..

Yeah, I hate the bunnies, but some of the sets are really cool. I think the treehouse from 4460 - Easter bunny Tree-House (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4460) would make a really great zoo exhibit, and the diagrams on the board in 4455 - Bunnies` School (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4455) would be great near a fox exhibit, or at an educational camp for young children at the zoo.

I would like to see as add-ons in ds store, some figures, furniture and accessories that they are released only in big sets! So, we will have the chance to have these, with low cost!
For example : family of 4279, with blue table and chairs, family of 3965, figures of 5301,5302,4250 (with table and chairs, troll) ,5142 (with sofa also), and additionally some accessories of 4875 Top Agents House (TV Set,laptops).Furniture that come with previous versions of houses, and king castles, would be a good idea for release! And victorian figures,of course!!!!!!

mmm bb you should consider using them for some "educational theater play" at your zoo! that would be fun. To teach kids about species preservation, ecology and such.
But I'll welcome the actors afterwards gladly

I've never been to a zoo yet that didn't have them, I don't believe. And I've been to 9 different ones. They have them in the petting zoo or children's zoo area usually, or sometimes in the locally themed area showing some of the wildlife native to the area the zoo is in.
