Title: The party is growing ...
Post by: Little Jo on September 21, 2006, 20:41:38
I'm proceeding with the avatar collection ... slowly, but it's growing  ;)

Snapshot from the bottom shelf of my showcase:

You've done a fantastic job, so far, Jochen! :D

Matchboxluc's avatar must have been a real challenge. Perhaps lucky that there aren't too many members using heavily modified figures as avatars so far. ;)

Also lucky that I swapped my (pièce de résistance :P) "sixties chick" conversion for a beaver at the start of the year. ;D

You're getting there, Jochen, and I know the end result will be excellent.

Hm, yes, it wasn't easy and I didn't hit perfectly 100%. But I will send him a closeup photo soon and he can judge by himself.

Also lucky that I swapped my (pièce de résistance :P) "sixties chick" conversion for a beaver at the start of the year. ;D

Umpf ... yes ... well. Anyway, I wouldn't say that's impossible, just a matter of time and tries ...  :-\
BTW, would this have been your hair color? I just wonder, thought it was a different one (thinking at your trailer trash belle).

I'm still uncertain what I should do with those that a quite active here but haven't an avatar yet ... using the genie bottle ghost for them?

I think you can only do what you can with what you've got.  In other words, if someone has no avatar then they can't appear in your collection.

To late to get this sentence right  8} ...  :yup:

For sure, but I'm planning to do something with all those avatars, so their purpose is not only being part of a collection ... but maybe you're right and I should skip those indiviuals  :hmm:

I think that you could make almost anything you set your mind to, if you had the time, Jochen. :yup:

That attachment is the actual avatar pic which I was using for a short time. :yup:
My real hair is neither black, nor platinum blonde. ;D The beaver's fur is closer to my natural hair colour.

Keep up the great work!  :)

Maybe those members without an avatar will be encouraged to get themselves one so they can be represented at the party. :)

The beaver's fur may be closer to your natural hair colour, Sylvia ... But, it's no where near as attractive as you really are ... ;)

Who do you guess Ben ;D

I got it from the photo below made by Tim in his FireChief's Men and The Big Meeting  (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=945.0) thread, because your avatar itself shows several men.

I would have anyway contacted you about this topic in the next days, because I'm also making photos each of those figures in a common enivronment (some of the board members already received a PM and a photo from me regarding this topic) and also asking if everything is ok with this figure (but that's not the plan I was referring above to have with the figures -- it's just another one  ;)). And as I received this figure just by yesterday from an eBay auction and being happy for this I just put it on the shelf without thinking about contacting you first.  :-[

Maybe those members without an avatar will be encouraged to get themselves one so they can be represented at the party. :)

Yes,  I hope so. Although in case of e.g. Customer this holds the danger that he will come up with a difficult challenging one  :-\

I'm still not too sure about who or what I want to be. I work as an Estate Agent (boo hiss) but don't fancy a suited clickey. I used to be in the Navy so could go with a Pirate figure. A relative was the first LT on the Victory during the battle of Trafalgar so could go with a British Naval Officer. I collect ACW Figures but Union or Confederate. I also collect trains and the new harbour series so there is another idea. One thing I know I don't like and that's those dam rabbits.  Craig

One thing I know I don't like and that's those dam rabbits.

So a rabbit hunter would also be an option ...  ;D

Or you just can try to chose a figure which looks quite similiar to yourself and wears typical clouthes you wear on the job (as estate agent) or in your free time ...

Felmer Fudd (?)  :yup:
And I have no wish to have a avatar with suit and tie

:( seeing all the avatars side by side, i realized just how dull my avatar looks.
??? also, i am realizing that there can be a link betwen the way you look and the way your avatar looks.
:) yesterday, cleaning some stuff, i discovered a picture of me, 7 years old, dressed in a yellow pierrot suit, with black pon-pons.
:) if a playmobil pierrot existed, dressed this way, with pink skin and brown hair - i would gladly use it as my avatar.
:'( hélas, there is only a white one ...
:-\ the old pirate will have to do, for now.
:) thank you jochen, for this idea.

I wouldn't go that far saying your avatar looks dull. I think he lines up pretty well with all the other figures. Just my opinion.

Elmer Fudd (?)  :yup:

 Yes, why not. This would be a great idea and there is also a story behind ...

I agree entirely. :yup:
I love the older figures! They may not have quite as much detail as their modern counterparts, but they still have their own special place in the history of Playmobil. :)

Have you some idea on how to create an "Elmer Fudd" in klicky form, Jochen? ;D

thanks jochen and sylvia, for liking my old pirate.
i think i am just jealous of richard's avatar - first a mounted police and now a king - so very much ressembling him.
maybe one day i will be able to produce a painted pierrot.
that would be my first customization.
that would force me to study a little bit, of course - how can i paint a clicky, glue some parts, etc..
maybe one day.

 ^-^

Very nice collection, Jochen  :D

I am delighted to see my avatar on your shelf  ;)
(does it have white arms, btw ?)

Also lucky that I swapped my (pièce de résistance :P) "sixties chick" conversion for a beaver at the start of the year. ;D

yes, you unfortunately did :(
somehow I found the "sixties chick" more appealing than the beaver  ;D :yup: ;)

I'm willingly like to add your avatar to the party, but for this you have to define one first ...  ;)

thanks jochen and sylvia, for liking my old pirate.
i think i am just jealous of richard's avatar - first a mounted police and now a king - so very much ressembling him.
maybe one day i will be able to produce a painted pierrot.

Oh, I somehow have the feeling that Richard's avatar will change soon again  ;D

If you like, maybe I can help you with your plans. Just PM me your thoughts about the pierrot how he should look like (photos with special aspects borrowed from other figures would be helpful), maybe I have some ideas and can help you out like with Richard's avatar. (Although a pierrot might became difficult, because I assume most of the involved parts I'll not have in my spare part collection because I absolutely have no circus stuff ... but maybe somebody can help out or I customize totally from scratch)

Hes growing on me but will have to have a look in the old parts box
for some insperation

Rgds Craig

Great! Please let us know your findings, so maybe we can enlarge the party ...  :D

Very nice collection, Jochen  :D

I am delighted to see my avatar on your shelf  ;)
(does it have white arms, btw ?)

Yes, for sure he has white arms. He should be an original  ;D (I'm more uncertain about the belt which I have chosen currently as a dirk pink one   ???)
Anyway, I will contact you the next days via PM about this topic sending you a photo of your avatar in a homogenized environment for a new thread I'm planning to start with an avatar collection.

yes, you unfortunately did :(
somehow I found the "sixties chick" more appealing than the beaver  ;D :yup: ;)

I totally agree  ;D Nevertheless the beaver is much easier to "customize" for taking part in the collection party than the "sixties chick", although a klicky would make things sometimes easier in setting up some scenes because in this case other members could talk with Sylvia in eye-height ... the beaver has to be lifted up for this somehow  :-[ -- same problem I have with the Timosaurus BTW  ;) ;D, but for this I also will find a solution (straight-forward would be to easy  ;))
But anyway: that's Sylvia's decision and I also like the busy beaver hacking the keyboard to provide all of us this friendly place here :)

thanks jochen.
i decided to try it myself and started looking for parts on ebay.
it will be my first and last customization.
if the thing starts to reveal it self to complicated, i will gladly accept your offer.
you are most kind, thank you.

Hm, if you mean the one suggest by Gordon, I can make you calm down, because this seems to be a more complex one for which I actually need some time.  :-[

But anyway, I'm excited what you will bring up as your "mini-me".

Don't mind about the posting counts, and I think you're right that it doesn't seem to be that difficult. The "problem" I have with it is, that the image is quite small (respectively the shown figure) and I can't determine which parts are need. (And I must admit, that I'm not one of the members who have an endless supply on spare parts, especially from the ancient times -- I more in modern times. So it for sure takes time for me to collect the single parts  :-[)

:-\ Ups, ok, well. Then maybe Gordon can provide me an incridients list for this piece (especiall the bend arm will be a challenge) ... I assume 3936 plays an important role for this ... but where are the legs from and the body (I assume the body is from the freighter ship captain), arms with white hands? What about the medals? They look quite perfect; are these painted? Where is the white cuff from?

'cause it's rather quiet on the board  ;), I just want let you participate on the progress I made with the avatar collection, i.e. the subject of this thread is still valid: the party is growing (and to be honest, I'm rather surprised by myself how constantly it is actually growing).

Attached you can see a photo of the current status as is by today morning.

At the bottom on the shelf left-hand side you can see the finished ones. Not all has been posted to the photo album avatar gallery so far, because I'm waiting on the answers of three owners for allowance.
The group of four right beside are nearly finished ones -- for pastifi's different legs are needed, the admiral misses his medals (and what not can be seen here: the correct hat  ;)), and Sir Gareth and polylerus are missing their cloaks. (The right edge of the bottom shelf shows some "historical" figures ;D)

The left half of the second bottom shelf is the "heavy-in-construction-section". From left to right you can "see"  ;D Richard's variant 2 (sorry Richard, still haven't manged to finish your shoes variant  :-[ but it will come, promissed), hadoque, the Nightmareman Tim (which still has to be adapted to the recent changes), the very single accessiors for Maddy (the flower) and Knightmo (the sword) ;D and the very basic "skeleton" for Deadeye Dick -- the next both figures do not belong to the avatar collection and are placed by incident there; they are Funpark Shop assistents in their "winter jacket".

Some others are not shown here but already in planning: Parts of CountBogro are still in the DirectService ordering process, Queen Candy and Mawson is on my next DS ordering list, Jettix2 stucks in an eBay transaction, and Dan in my personal brainstorming phase (how I can build it  ???).

Oh, and not to forget to mention at the top of the showcase the "big ones".

The rest of the showcase is irrelevant to this topic and is just inbetween because I want to show the top and the bottom of this display

Hi Jochen

Its looking great so far. I have also been quiet for a while with work and shifting things on ebay. Got to pay for my collection one way or another.

Its my day off today (as I work Saturday's) but unfortunately I have to mind my wifes Tile shop in Twickenham. But I dont mind as there is a great little toy shop opposite so have just invested in a 4470 harbour crane. Now my only problem is how to sneak it home without her noticing

Regards
Craig
PS Will try and put my Avatar up tonight

Yes indeed, well observed!

You mentioned to me some time ago, that you have still the old firefighter variant as your avatar, but you're planning (or already finished?) a modern variant too. So I wanted to be prepared  ;D For the board topics I'm using the current variant standing at the bottom shelf, but for the special "Gordon" photo story (which I already had announced some time ago and which I still owe you  :-[) I'm planning to use the modern one, if you don't mind (altough it wouldn't make any difference, because the story does not focus on the suit ;))
