Meanwhile, the work continues. The main span of the bridge is finished, and the abutments are equipped with small towers. Both abutments are varnished, and thus resistant to weather and wind. Inevitably, such a large structure attracts interest from colleagues from abroad, and today "Harry & Henrietta Gleisbau GmbH" received a visit from "Big Building Company". During such a working visit, all kinds of experiences and insights are exchanged. After an educational day it is always fun to finish with a nice group photo.

The main span is now finished and equipped with small towers. There are still no signs for navigation.

Visit and interest from abroad is always fun, and today "Big Building Company" was visiting the construction site.

The day ended with a nice group photo.

We are now working hard on finishing the bridge. The bridge can then be put into operation in a short time.

The glass washer is hired to clean the plates attached to the towers of the bridge. These are then visible to skippers and railway staff.

This sign indicates for boats under which span the bridge should be crossed. That is between the white arrows

This sign indicates to the railway staff that the walkway cannot be used when a train is running over the bridge. The wagons hang over the walkway.

You have a wonderful attention to detailing (and in involving a large range of klickies in the work).  Thank you, too, for explaining the meaning of the signs.

With such a large construction project, there is always a need for new employees. Applicants come from all over the world to help rebuild the "Ferrovie dello Balconia". This week there even came an applicant from Australia! His name is "Puffing Billy", and has the peculiar habit of moving around with a dromedary called a camel in Australia. But people in Australia have more peculiar habits, such as building a railway line right through the Outback (The Ghan) or across mountains with a winding railway line (The Great Zig Zag). Anyway, all help is welcome!

A nice international touch; maybe he could have brought a camel train with him!

But, seriously, there are big rail developments in Australia where the Gold Coast line is being extended.  In the last 12  to 18 months when I was working I had a temporary PA who got a job with Balfour Beatty who were building the extension.  She already had a degree in French and Business Studies and her started studying for a degree related to the construction industry with Balfour Beatty and then went out to Australia to work on the Gold Coast line after she'd completed her degree course.

Will the first train break the ribbon?
