Title: My Collection
Post by: Donmobil on November 27, 2013, 05:35:20
On the pcc site there is a topic for being the collector of the month.  This requires one to write a blog one one's collection.  I know nothing about writting blogs.  Most of my collection is still in their boxes/blisters/bags.  So here I have decided to list my curent collection by theme summaries and although my listings also contain costs, I am not adding it here.
My collections:
Theme       Sets        Pieces     Klickys    Critters
Adventure          8              86         12             3

Future Planet    1               33           1            0
Ghost Pirates  15              382         33           8

Misc.               32          1,647        212      113
Pirates           294       10,673        556       149
Roman           207         3,650        435        63
Safari                2              32            0          7
Space               9             105            9          1
Specials          10               24          10          0
Stone Age         9             175          20        11
Vacation           4               48            7          1
Vikings          102          2,585        261        19
Western          56          2,368        137        93
Zoo                  4                52           0         6

   Totals     1,610        40,618       3,303      945

The spacing is more formal in my spreadsheets, not so much in a word processer format.  So, this is what I have since I started collecting Playmobil in 2005.

Reminds me of Count Count from Sesame Street ("One little piece of Playmobil, two little pieces of Playmobil - wonderful, wonderful, hahaha....")

How neatly organized. Excel doesn't work for me anymore - I have reached the upper limit of number digits allowed in a cell....

That's an interesting overview. What the PCC is looking for is really as much about the why and how as what you have. So for instance - when did you start collecting, were you young or an adult? Why have you continued? You have lots of knights and pirates. What is it about those themes that interest you so much? Which is your favorite theme and why? What do you do with your klickies? Do you have plans for the future?

There are some sets of Knight families also, so they are not all fighters.  Oh, and by the way, 729 is the number of sets I have, 1.304 (with families) is the number of knights I have and I added another 5 today.

Great amount of sets you have collected

I too would like to see how you store it all

If you have 1,300 Medieval sets does that mean each one is different or do you say have 40 of this one and 20 of that one......etc......

I think it includes multiple times the same box. For example below, there are no 207 Roman sets made for sure.
Roman           207         3,650        435        63
if you count on PlaymoDB under knights it is 252 sets and if you add also medieval houses, Vikings, Fairy worlds etc it comes up to 385

Oh My!  Did it screw up my spacing.  And yes, most of my sets are multiples of the same set.  Had I became hooked on Playmobil earlier, my collection would be larger.  One item I would have bough multiples of would have been the steers in the Western theme.  I started in 2005 at age 62.

No, someone was just realistic and shed some light into the dark.

I should start being organized as well. Let me make a begin:

                                     Sets    Pieces     T.P   Klicky's    T. K.   Critters   T.CT
4611    Royal Guard         300      7         2100     1          300        0          0

This is more time consuming than I thought... 8}

Cheers,
HDL

That sounds/reads like an awesome roman collection

So are they all MIB or do you open them up?

We open a few of a set and the duplicates usually go into a big box packed away. I have wanted to display them but that takes more room.

I think the same thing about starting to collect earlier. Bigger and better collection.  I missed the golden years of playmobil in the 80's and 90's

I had done this with my LEGO collection and when I started collecting Playmobil it just followed my prevous spreadsheets.  It was not as bad as my LEGO, I had 20 some what years to deal with.  It does take time, but if you get all of one theme sets and start with their set number, it does work

Most of my collection are still in their boxes/bags/blisters.  Useing the Roman klickes as an example, I use tacal boxes from Wal-Mart.  each box will hold 2 klickes per compartment, thats 24.  They sell another box with a large area and enough space for a couple of knights and their horses and accessories.  The set 5894, only the Spanish soldier  (I have 26 and counting)  has been kept out.  The rest of the items in the set go into a bigger box.

Yes, I would to have been able to collect then.

I think you are just confirming my hypothesis, that these were multiples of the same set; I count 21 Roman sets in this list. It seems our terminology (and understanding) was different (on what a "set" meant)  ???

Anyway, just out of curiosity I counted my own knight sets, and I have 155 out of the 252 listed in PlaymoDB  ;D Some of them multiple times but I count them as one (set)

To me a set can be either one klicky in a container or a set as in a castle.  Yes, if I buy 10 of the same set, then it is still 10.  The way my data base is set up, I can look at a set and see it contains 1 klicky.  And next column gives me the total number of klickies from the number of sets I have.  It comes in handy when I am working up an army and need to how many klickies I have.

I'm impressed that you have tallied the number of pieces. I keep a record of sets, klickies and notes on whether the set is complete or not, but no total piece count.

The listing of parts started with LEGO, I bought many pieces on the web and fron visiting LEGO stores and buying elements from their 'pick-a-brick'.  So when I set up my catalog, I also begin counting pieces.  It really is not a big task, if your have a catalog and add the sets when you get home on each shopping day.

Wow!  What an impressive collection.  I wished I had organized everything into a spreadsheet as I bought it.  I have lots of sets, but only about half are in original boxes.  I'm trying to set up a display over the next few weeks, probably circus, and I'm trying to find all the circus related stuff - a spreadsheet sure would be nice.

How about some pictures  8}

Today, I went to two close ToysRUs stores.  They have a buy 2 - get the third one for $1.00.  I bought:
6 x 5972 Knights Carry Pack #3
6 x 4768 Knight with training Dummy
9 x 4767 Grumpy Pirate with treasure chest.

This gives me a total of:39 x 5972
with a total of  19 X 4768
and a total of  25 x 4767

Set 4767 come with a Spainish sword and so I am making these Spainish Militia using 'Three-inch Glory' rules, this is 2 companies.  I may go for a batalion. The large number of 5972 just adds to my armies.  I am buying sets of 4768 just as another knight army or faction.

I'm Back!!!  After spending 1.5 years in and out of the Hospital, I am better.

I am building another Egyptian Army with new figures.  So far I have 36 packs of the 3-Warrior
sets plus 6 Leaders.  I have 1 Pack of the Archer on the Camel.  I plan to get more Camel Archers.

I hope to be able to play Egypt armies against each as well as against my Romans.
