Kirkbean Playmobil Exhibition 2014
« on: April 16, 2014, 21:01:27 »
This year's Kirkbean Playmobil Exhibition - our 5th Exhibition will be held on four days rather than the usual three and will take place from Friday 25th July to Monday 28th July.

For anyone who doesn't know about the exhibition, it was the first British all Playmobil exhibition and is held to raise funds for my local village hall.  I am secretary of the hall committee and back in 2010, we were renovating the hall and looking for different fund raising events. I had always wanted to set up all my Playmobil in one place so I offered to make up some displays and charge a small entry fee for visitors to see the displays.

The first event included a number of small dioramas with a variety of themes.  The event was so well received that I was asked to repeat it the following year.
For the second year the displays were larger and three Playmofriends, Flatcat, Playmofire and Walts-Trains came along to help.
Gordon (Playmofire and Walter (Walts-Trains) along with their wives have taken part every year since.
My collection has grown in size since that first event and most of the displays are now about 12' x 8' at least.
This year, Gordon is planning a diorama that is railway based and Walter is bringing along an airport scene.  I am planning  a Victorian seaside, Country Show, 18th Century Harbour and a sort of modern day Egypt diorama.  Plus my son James wants to do an X-Factor scene, with his new pop stars stage.
Some things may change and other things may be added if previous years are anything to
go by!

If anyone would like to visit you will be made very welcome.
Kirkbean is a small village on the Solway Coast near Dumfries in Southern Scotland, if anyone needs any details of how to get there please contact me.

For anyone who hasn't seen any of our displays, I have added a few links to some previous year's dioramas.

Diane reminded me that I have 13 weeks to get the layout sorted out and any customs made, buildings designed etc, plus ordering parts from UK DS.  I'd better get busy!

I've really enjoyed looking at your past pictures of this event - I'm sure this year will be every bit as good! Looking forward to pictures, wish I could see it in person!

So does the fundraising part pan out? I think it's a great idea but would want to know how it sorted out? How much did you charge and did more kids come or adultts?

Your plans for the new diorama's sound great!  :)

We've made other holiday plans this year, but I'd love to come and see your exhibition one day, and visit Scotland afterwards. It's on my wish list!

Thanks for posting those, Walter.  I've loaded my layout photos onto my computer and wil try to post some tomorrow.  I have some of the other displays, too, which I will post after Elaine has posted her photos, if they are needed.

Thank you for these Walter - I am still in the process of resizing my photos but have a free day tomorrow so hope to be able to upload them to photobucket then to Playmofriends then.
