Title: Playmobil train set 3958
Post by: The_Mad_Hadder on December 07, 2017, 19:06:01
This could go in either Report and Review or Trains. I picked TRAINS!!! I hope you enjoy

Both version boxes with store display (Note box art work does not give away version number. Contents do.) We will start with the box artwork. It is the same for both sets

Shortside Artwork

Contents of version 1:

Note how both the caboose and passanger car do not have pre printed decals. Both contain sticker sheets for the cars in question along with the locomotive.
Also note the train track box artwork is an older style in version 1
Transformer has silver sticker label

Contents of version 2:

Only locomotive and passanger car have stickers, the caboose is screen printed.
Transformer has white/bone colour paper sticker label

All other contents appear to remain the same.

I can probably get away with that posting of the instructions.

I kindly ask that you please post your comments here rather then in my "All things western thread so that it does not swamp that over there.

Ich frag mich, was mich mehr umhaut: die genauen Vergleiche oder schlicht die Tatsache, daß Du das tolle Set gleich zweimal hast!

Danke für den interessanten Einblick.

Wonder what's more amazing: your accuracy in comparing or simply that you do own that awesome set twice..

Cheers for sharing that interesting facts.

As you can note in the last picture, there is an open set of manuals. I will send you scans, but it will have to wait until the new year.

i was going to hit the road but :(

Thanks for showing the box contents, TMH!  The main difference between the two versions is stickers vs. printing on some of the parts, as you have noted before on set 4122. Different inner box too. Do the instructions have different printing dates?

I do not know because only the store display instructions are open. As you can see the other two sets instructions are sealed.

The set was a Sears exclusive and was only issued from mid 1988 to mid 1989 and it would appear that part way through production some items were of later versions such as the caboose and the transformer.
